Visitors should confirm what's provided before arrival. Many cabins require guests to bring their own bedding, towels, cooking supplies, and food provisions. Trash removal is the responsibility of cabin users at most locations, with pack-in, pack-out policies strictly enforced at Forest Service properties. Wood Landing Campground

    Hidden Gem

This small campground is located on the Laramie River at historic Wood's Landing. It has log cabins with common facilities and 5 available water/30 amp electric and a dump station. The sites are small but the location is feet from fine trout fishing and a good restaurant open Wednesday through Sunday. It has a small store and a gas pump where fishing licenses are sold. We stayed for a week and explored Big Creek Lake, the North Platte and the Snowy Range, earning the weekly rate. Some sites have a fire pit and table, ours did not.

    Bow River Ranger Station

1960s cabin, basic amenities incl water, showers, kitchen, bunkbeds, toilet

Cute little place, very quiet and pretty. Creekside cabin, with fire ring and picnic table.

BYO toilet paper, just in case ... we had 1/2 a roll.

Cabin is definitely showing its age, though the four-burner electric stove and the white fridge-freezer work just fine. It has three sinks, two showers, one toilet, plus a long outdoor laundry line.

We were there with our Girl scout troop (six 13-year-olds). The picnic table and the large kitchen table were great for meals and crafts, such as tie dying shirts, making scented candles, etc.

The kitchen has plates, bowls, mugs, forks and glasses/cups. You may want to bring a measuring cup, spoons, knives, napkins, sponges (for washing up).

DONT FORGET TO PACK OUT ALL OF YOUR TRASH. The two groups before us didn't; what jerks.

We drove 12 miles from this cabin to hike to Crater Lake; it's pretty country. Dusty roads, loads of stars, other little creeks nearby.

    Western Hills Campground

    Western Hills

This campground has everything you need and then some. Nice restrooms and showers. There are tent, cabins and rv sites. For the kids there's a playground and miniature golf. The only negative is there's no grass. It's a big gravel lot. It's right off the highway. Great for travelers going through.

    Rawlins KOA

    Rawlins KOA

Good overnight stop. Right off the interstate so you have that noise. Sites are pull through and gravel. It gets windy here so be prepared. Walmart in town. Saratoga Hobo hot springs within an hour. There are some camping cabins here and they are actively remodeling the park.

    Western Hills Campground

    Great for one night.

Clean restrooms, showers were really nice so was the laundry. We got there after a lot of rain and things were flooded and muddy. Hook ups are right next to your neighbors picnic table? No real place to walk your dog. Staff was very nice and friendly. Overall a good one night stop.

    Routt National Forest Seedhouse Campground

    Washboard road to Campground

The campground is located 25 miles north of Steamboat Springs and is at the gateway to Mount Zirkel Wilderness near the Elk River Corridor. Vault toilets, trash, and potable water are here. There are about 24 sites(15 can be reserved) the rest are first-come, first-serve. Each site is pretty spacious and has a fire ring as well as picnic tables. Two hand pump water systems are located throughout the campground.

    Rawlins KOA

    Right Against the Interstate

This KOA had full hook up, and WiFi available. However it was very dusty, right against the interstate, and smelled like the asphalt plant that was apparently near by. We did not check out the laundry or restrooms/showers so can’t say anything about the condition of those.

    Little Cabin With a View

    Awesome place

My wife and I rented this cabin for two nights. The views are awesome and the cabin is very cozy. The host(linda) is truly a angel and goes out of her way to make everything great. There is river access very close and they offer a razor ride up jelm mountain and numerous trails to hike on.

    Western Hills Campground

A big gravel lot with great amenities

This is a really big gravel lot with zero shade, zero privacy, and highway noise. Prices vary depending on what kind of site you choose. We stayed only 1 night so chose a site without any hookups due to a lower price. We got 2 sites and parked so that our doors opened towards each other. The bathrooms were nice and showers clean. They also have a wonderful coin laundry room, a mini golf putting course and kids playground. I personally couldn't stay here for more than a few nights but if you're in need of a night's rest, a hot shower and place to do laundry it's great.

Guide to Saratoga

Cabin accommodations near Saratoga, Wyoming range from rustic Forest Service structures to more developed private campground options. Located in the Medicine Bow National Forest at elevations between 8,000-10,000 feet, the area experiences dramatic temperature swings even in summer months when overnight temperatures can drop below freezing. Most Forest Service cabin rentals remain inaccessible during winter months due to heavy snowfall and road closures.

What to do

Fishing access: Many Saratoga cabin rentals provide direct access to prime fishing waters. At Lazy Acres Campground and Motel, the Encampment River runs directly through the property. "Sits on the Encampment River. Owners Lee Ann & Leroy were very friendly & helpful," notes one visitor.

Winter recreation: During winter months, the Snow Survey Cabin serves as a convenient base for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing when road conditions permit access. The cabin maintains electricity year-round, allowing for overnight winter adventures in the national forest.

Stargazing opportunities: Limited light pollution makes cabin stays ideal for night sky viewing. When staying at Steamboat Lake State Park's Sunrise Vista Campground cabins just across the Colorado border, one camper noted the "Very good star watching" opportunities, making it worth the short drive from Saratoga.

What campers like

Clean facilities: Visitors consistently praise the well-maintained cabins throughout the region. At Western Hills Campground, cabin guests appreciate "Excellent showering facilities" and "The bathrooms were nice and showers clean. They also have a wonderful coin laundry room, a mini golf putting course and kids playground."

Quiet setting: The peaceful environment draws many repeat visitors to Saratoga area cabins. A guest at Jack Creek Guard Station noted how the remote location provides a true escape with minimal traffic noise and few neighboring campers during weekdays.

Wildlife viewing: Morning and evening wildlife sightings enhance cabin stays. Deer commonly visit cabin properties at dawn and dusk, while more elusive moose can sometimes be spotted near water sources. At Saratoga Lake, waterfowl viewing provides additional wildlife opportunities year-round.

What you should know

Reservation requirements: All Forest Service cabins require advance booking through Recreation.gov, often with limited availability during peak summer months. Most private campground cabins can be reserved directly with the property.

Elevation considerations: Cabins in the Medicine Bow National Forest sit at high elevations where weather can change quickly. Pack layers even in summer, as nighttime temperatures regularly drop below 40°F.

Limited connectivity: Cell service remains spotty throughout the region. At Rawlins KOA, where cabins serve as convenient overnight accommodations, a guest noted: "This camp site is a bit small but did have pull through spots large enough for our F150 and 37' trailer... The sunset was beautiful with the mountains as a backdrop."

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Several cabin providers offer child-friendly amenities. Western Hills Campground includes "a mini golf putting course and kids playground" that can entertain children during downtime between outdoor adventures.

Kitchen preparedness: Family cabin stays require careful meal planning. Most Forest Service cabins have limited cooking facilities compared to private options. "You may want to bring a measuring cup, spoons, knives, napkins, sponges (for washing up)," advises a family who stayed at one area cabin.

Educational opportunities: The Saratoga National Fish Hatchery offers free tours where children can learn about local aquatic ecosystems. Located just minutes from downtown Saratoga, this makes an excellent rainy-day activity for families staying in nearby cabins.

Tips from RVers

Cabin alternatives: When RV sites fill, cabins provide reliable backup accommodations. "We have a small teardrop trailer with no hookups and they had a perfect pull through spot for us," shared a visitor about Western Hills Campground, noting that both RV sites and cabins were available.

Weather preparedness: RVers switching to cabin accommodations should still pack for variable conditions. "It gets windy here so be prepared," warns a visitor to Rawlins KOA, where both cabin and RV options exist. Strong winds can impact outdoor cooking and activities even during cabin stays.
