Wild escape

Such a hidden gem! The spots were so spacious and private, we found availability on a weekend in August very last minute, and the lake was so peaceful! Seems like it's mostly used for fishing and kayaking and canoeing. Very very quiet area - felt somewhat like boundary waters. Loved that sites had their own water access as well! Just really great for it's price tag as well

Weekend get away

Was quite, clean, and restful. The only challenge was mosquitoes they swarm so I recommend bug spray strong and screen tent. I appreciated the large dumpster on the way out, great job USNF!

Tall trees and secluded campsites.

Spent 2 nights this past week. Campsites are well maintained and spacious. Each site is secluded from the next site. May hear some wood chopping but little else. This is the reason I like the National Forest Campgrounds.

Off the beaten path

This was one of the few sites that still had availability a couple weekends ago (July). The sites are surrounded by trees so you don't see your fellow campers, but still close enough that you can hear them. The campsites are located along different loops and the location itself was great.

Limited cell service

Great campground and lake. Had to drive to the nearby town of Clam Lake for wifi and closer to Hayward for cell service.

Great national forest campground

We arrived on a Saturday but still found empty sites. There are multiple loops so you have choices. The are vault toilets in the center of the loop and trails lead to them from different points around the loop. A trail leads to a group playground.

The big draw here is fishing on the lake as well as the ATV and motorcycle trails. There is an interpretive trail around Day Lake to enjoy.

This is elk territory so keep your eyes open. We saw one crossing a stream.
