      High Cliff State Park Campground

Close to town but surrounded by nature.

This is a state run campground that provides plenty of hiking, biking and horse riding trails. There is also access to Lake Winnebago for boating and swimming. The camp sites are all either partially or fully shaded with a good amount of privacy for each site. Plenty or pit toilets are provided and there are also plumbed toilets and showers available on the campground.

This campground is perfect for a weekend getaway or for those families just starting out. It is close enough to town to be able to run in and get forgotten items. There are plenty of playground equipment for kids to run and climb on. If you are looking for a rustic get away this may not be exactly what you are looking for but it is a great spot to get out of the city for a day or two.

      High Cliff State Park Campground

      Spacious and close to trails

This was my first time camping in a Wisconsin state park and I thought it was great! Our site backed up to a trail along the cliff which was awesome for a family that loves to hike. I felt for a state park most of the sites were spacious, ours was particularly because we had no site behind us. Shower house was clean. Will be back!

      High Cliff State Park Campground

So much to do for everyone

No matter what your skill level you can find a trail here from easy to challenging to hike or bike.  There is a beach, a marina, Lake Winnebago, horse trails, hiking, biking and pet beach and picnic area.  The park is very clean and pretty.  There is a playground, several vault toilet areas spread around and a shower house.   Some sites have electric and there is a dump station and water fill up.

Both AT &T and Verizon provided good service and the ability to stream.  Spaces are large and have many  trees for shade and privacy.

      Hartman Creek State Park Campground

      Beautiful

We camped in the family campground with our 17 foot Casita travel trailer. Large private site surrounded by trees, with several options for positioning the trailer. The nearby chain of small lakes connected by narrows is ideal for kayaking. Lots of level paved roads for cycling, and wooded trails for hiking. Clean restrooms with showers.

      High Cliff State Park Campground

      Comfortable camping, lots to do

Another spacious Wisconsin State Park site. #2 is level and listed as full shade but we had enough sun to recharge our Jackery everyday. It helps that it was blue skies each day! All sites were rented for the weekend and there were just a few no-shows. Even full there wasn’t enough noise to mention. We were near the entrance and enjoyed watching all the cars and campers coming and going. The shower house was fine, a very short walk for us. The camp host was friendly and quick to clean sites. There’s single stream recycling at the dump station and they take glass! Cell reception was good enough (Visible) There’s much to do in the park and in the area. We hiked, fished, golfed, shopped and ate well from what we find. I recommend the Appleton Farmers’ Market, Dick’s Family Foods in Sherwood Nieman’s Southside Market in Appleton.

      High Cliff State Park Campground

      Great Views Great Hiking

A beautiful park with lots of history! The park entrance sits just after the High Cliff golf course and follows the east side of Lake Winnebago, offering beautiful views of the Fox Valley area. This park features many hiking and biking trails, none of which are over-exhilarating but are enough for everyone at all levels. Climbing spectacular cliff formations or walking through the many cliff crevices is an experience everyone will remember. This park features an awesome General Store with souvenirs and lots of information about the park's history. It can be a busy park full of day walkers, so it can seem busier than it is. This is a popular park and can get busy, but it never seems crowded unless there is a wedding reception which typically is held toward the north end by the observation tower. There is High Cliff Restaurant, as well as a pizza, sandwich, and ice cream shop with mini-golf toward the park entrance. If you have the opportunity to visit this park during the month of October, this park offers an awesome trick or treat weekend which the campground woods is transformed into a spooky but fun campground. Check the parks web page for the exact weekend. Kids trick or treat going campsite to campsite! This is a popular event and is super busy but safe and fun for all ages! The campers go all out to have the best displays and experience! The event is open to the public and campers. If you plan on camping during the October weekend book early by the State of Wisconsin DNR website. As far as amenities, there is firewood available for purchase at the park, it offers pit toilets as well as flush toilets and showers. there are numerous gas stations and a grocery store a couple minutes outside the park. There is also a large splash pad park a couple minutes outside the park during the hot summer months.

      Great Views!

It was a bit chilly to enjoy the lake unfortunately, but the hiking is amazing. There are great rock outcrops for bouldering and exploring. All over just beautiful. Definitely one of my favorites in Wisconsin!!

    What to do

Trail riding opportunities: Several locations near Nichols offer dedicated horse trails for riders of all experience levels. At Chute Pond Park in Mountain, visitors can combine riding with other outdoor activities. As one camper notes, "The access to the ATV trails really makes this campground a convenience gem! The camp store is also super convenient if you forget smores and Fire supplies."

Fishing spots: Lakes and rivers throughout the region provide excellent fishing opportunities for various species. Water activities: Many campgrounds feature swimming areas, boat launches, or water access points. Embarrass River Campground and ATV Park combines multiple recreational options with water features. A visitor explains, "My favorite sites are on the river as it's relaxing and comforting listening to the fast moving stream especially at night. You can bring your ATV to ride on the ATV track there or on the trails in the woods."

    What campers like

Private, wooded sites: Campers consistently praise the secluded feel of many sites in the region. As one visitor to Hartman Creek State Park Campground reported, "Our site was located overlooking Allen Lake, right in the tall pines. It was a great location, enough trees for kids to hang hammocks for a little relaxation."

Clean facilities: Many campgrounds maintain well-kept shower houses, restrooms, and common areas. A Bay Shore Park camper noted, "Everything was very clean and even with the campground full it was nice and quiet. The spots are beautiful and shaded. Rain does cause many of the spots to flood."
