Mineral Springs

Right along the Klickitat River, this Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife campground sits just off State Route 142 in a landscape flanked by Mount Adams to the east and Mount Hood to the west. The drive itself provides views of both peaks, though finding the entrance requires attention since there's no highway signage. Campers should look for the concrete building structure visible from the road.

The campground spreads sites along the riverbank with enough spacing between them to avoid feeling crowded. Fire rings mark each camping area, and a clean pit toilet serves the facility. Several sites accommodate larger rigs and boat trailers, with a dirt boat ramp providing river access for anglers. The setup works well for those hauling watercraft, as the campground primarily serves fishing enthusiasts.

River noise helps mask sounds from nearby SR 142, though traffic remains light on this route. Some sites offer direct river frontage with good solar exposure, while trees provide partial shade without blocking sky access completely. Jeff O. notes his riverside spot had "plenty of sun for solar and sky for starlink."

The Klickitat Trail for hiking and mountain biking runs nearby. A Discover Pass covers the camping fee, and the facility stays open year-round for those seeking places to camp near Klickitat during shoulder seasons.

A quiet riverside campground with well-spaced sites along the Klickitat River and clean facilities. Campers regularly cited the peaceful setting and clean pit toilets. Minimal highway noise from nearby SR 142.

Beautiful quiet riverside campground eound

Nice quiet campground right on the Klickitat river. The sites are nicely spread out with lots of surrounding trees, but not so many that you don't get the sunshine in. My spot was right along the river and had plenty of sun for solar and sky for starlink. Each site had a fire ring. There is a clean pit toilet. Was there on a Wed and Thurs night with about half of the sites open.

Use the coordinates to find it as there is no signage from the highway. I drove by it. Look for the cement building (in my photos) sitting in front of the river.

The drive in is spectacular with Mt Adams fully flanking the right side of the road and Mt Hood flanking the left.

Free campsite along the Klickitat RIver

Nice Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife campground with a dirt boat ramp, seems to serve mostly fishermen. Some sites are right next to the Klickitat River. Some have easy access for larger rigs and space for boat trailers. The campground is right next to SR 142, but it's not really a very busy highway. The Klickitat Trail for mountain biking and hiking is nearby.

We stayed for two nights mid-week in September. The river sites are in sight of each other but not too tightly packed. It did seem that some of those sites were occupied by some long-term residents, although you're not supposed to occupy spots for more than 14 days out of 30. One site ran their generator constantly, so we set up on the other side of the old Icehouse structure right next to the river, where the river noise covered up the generator noise. We had a quiet pleasant stay.

Very Quiet

We stayed here one night and really wished that we had time to spend more nights because it was so quiet and peaceful. We found a place to park right by the river, well hidden from the other campers. There is a pit toilet which was stocked with TP and pretty darn clean. I would camp here again in a heartbeat with a camper van because we had everything we needed.

Aka Icehouse or Klickitat Springs

I didn't stay here, but I did get to see this place when I took out rafting here. I wanted to comment since I had previously tried to find info on this campground (I searched for Icehouse Campground based on intel in Soggy Sneakers). This is a great spot right on the Klickitat River and has several spots spread out with fire rings. There aren't designated spots. All you need is a Discover Pass. :)
