Family Oriented

We came to the island for just one night. Reservations are HIGHLY recommended prior to arriving on the island for any type of accommodation. We arrived at the resort at 11:30 am and was able to get a site for same day. Check-in isn’t til 1 pm so we explored the island. Since this is a resort, it’s a great place for families with kids. Our boys took advantage of the games- tether ball, chess, horse shoes, etc. If you want to make full use of the resort, plan to stay 2+ nights. Was great to sit by the pond sipping wine. Free hot showers and clean restrooms.

Perfect family get away

We stayed over the 4th of July weekend 2019 and had an amazing time. We reserved one of the RV spaces for our trailer, which are centrally located in this large resort. Our 4 year old daughter really enjoyed the activities that were offered, we made family matching tie dies, she made bird feeders, we rented a paddle boat one day and a row boat a different day. We has an amazing time and would do it again, in fact my daughter asks frequently when we will go to Lakedale next.

We used the showers and bathrooms, which were adequately maintained for as many people were staying. The staff in the store were always friendly, and those working the activity tent were helpful and encouraging for our daughter.

We can’t wait to return, we will be able to engage in even more activities and exploration next time. Perhaps we will try the stand up paddle boarding, or other water rentals.

Extremely convenient, accommodating, and beautiful.

We stopped in for a few nights in mid September and this place was amazing. It was a mid week stay at the end of the season, so a very slow time to be there, which maybe made it better. There were minimal campers there and we really enjoyed having extra space and quiet. The canvas cabins were a great solution to either traveling with gear or renting gear locally since we flew into the area. When we arrived we found the cabin with everything we needed including firewood with matches and newspaper for lighting, a s’mores kit, and bed warmers (insulated rubber bags of boiling water). It was September and chilly at night, but the bed warmers worked well and the setup is designed to handle a cold night. Breakfast was included with the stay in the canvas cabins, and was a nice benefit. The food was good, and the staff was friendly. The grounds were clean and beautiful. There was a lot of wildlife on the grounds and fishing available on site. We will return again during future visits to SJI.

Sad tent sites, crazy expensive

Stayed for two nights at a tent site. It was lumpy and very unkept. It really needed some basic clean up landscaping. For the $100+ each night - I was hoping for something a lot nicer. Only almost filled portable toilets near the tents. Trash cans were overflowing.

The focus is more on the lodge, cabins, yurts, and rv sites. Those looked pretty nice.

We were told that because of a Jazz festival - the cost included admission and so higher - Surprise - it was free! and awful! Would have left but there are very few tenting campgrounds on the island.

Won't go there again - even at the other accommodations.

Really disappointed.

Glamping is pricey (even for the basics)

I’ve only ever stayed in the most basic campsites. The campsites are all near or on one of the few area lakes. The sites are generally spread out feeling with tree in between. There are several group sites available that are occasionally occupied by bigger, louder groups. There a lots of facilitated and unstructured activities especially for kids. There isn’t much (or any) cell service in the area.

Glamping!

We had Nevas Canvas Tent #6. It was amazing! Glamping at its finest! King size bed was super comfy. We had a huge deck overlooking one of the three lakes. Our tent also had a bathroom w/ a toilet and shower, an electrIc heater, a trundle bed/couch, and electrical outlets. They currently have 6 of these Nevas tents, 16 canvas tents (w/o water/restrooms/electricity), 6 huge log cabins, 7 yurts (w small kitchens), 37 or so camping sites, 4 RV sites, and an Airstream you can rent. There is also a traditional lodge (not sure how many rooms, but it looked nice). Canvas tents and lodge come w/ breakfast. We will for sure come back!

Family oriented campground with a great location

I reserved a "family campsite" for tent camping with a friend this past week. The campground has a great location and is easily accessible from all that the San Juan Island has to offer. The sites are large and well appointed, ours was in a nice wooded area, had two picnic tables, a nice fire pit with grill and multiple flat spots for our tent. The sites don't offer a ton of privacy and we were surrounded by large groups of families, which was a bit noisy. We arrived at this campground after spending the 3 prior nights in the backcountry, so we were pretty excited to take advantage of the bathhouse and shower facilities. We may have just caught the campground at a bad time, but we were shocked to see how filthy the bathrooms and showers were. The showers were ice cold and looked like they hadn't been cleaned in weeks. The price was also rather steep ($66/night for the most basic camp site offered) but understandable considering the lack of availability for campsites during the high season on the island.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this campground to a family looking for fun activities for the kids while staying on the island. The resort also offers many other types of accommodations that I would be interested to try in the future including cabins, airstream trailers and "glamping" canvas tents!

Simply Amazing!

Lakedale resort is my favorite campground by far. There are plenty of private lakefront sites for everyone. They are really good about accommodating large groups as well. Every site comes with a firepit and at least one picnic table. There are water spigots and porto pottys every 100 yards or so and there is a big bathroom in the middle of the campground with three free showers for each gender. I also love the general store, which has all the last minute things you forgot and has some good food options! You can also rent boats to take out on the two lakes there.

Best camping spot on the San Juan Islands

Right in the middle. About 10 minutes to Friday Harbor and 10 minutes to English Camp. Great spot on the lakes, lots of different options from tents, to hook ups to cabins to canvas tents etc. Hot showers for a price! But worth it.
