Decided to stay here on 7/3 for 1 night so we were close to Damascus for our early morning shuttle ride to the AT. We stayed in Chipmunk Circle at site 31. The site was big enough for our Jeep, 4 person tent, hammock with hammock shelter, and there was still plenty of room. The only bathroom that was open was near site 11 by the campground host but it wasn’t a far walk since this campground is a loop. The campground hosts are very nice and helpful. The bathrooms were cleaned constantly. Each restroom had 2 bathroom stalls and one shower stall. There is a total of 3 bathhouses in Chipmunk Circle.
There’s no power at any of the sites but there’s potable water near the road every few sites and a grey water dump by each bathhouse. There were group sites and single sites with each sight very private and secluded. This a nice quiet campground that was so relaxing we decided to come back 3 days later to stay again after getting off the AT.
The second time we stayed in Chipmunk Circle again at site 21 and bathhouses 1 and 2 were open but 3 was still closed. This time we set up our 4 person tent, 2 person tent, and hammock/hammock shelter and slept soundly through the night. Site 21 is right next to the trail that leads to the playground but you can’t even see it since each camp site is bordered with rhododendrons and trees. I saw pop up campers too and you could fit a tear drop camper no problem.
There is no firewood or ice sold at this campground but you can buy both at Food City down there mountain in Damascus. About 15 minute drive.
I plan on staying here again when I come back to Damascus. There’s no cell service here (I have Verizon) so it’s nice to completely unplug and enjoy an evening or more at the peaceful, relaxing campground.
Side Note: There’s also a delicious place called The Wicked Chicken in Damascus has delicious food with outdoor seating but is closed on Mondays. Also, Mamma Mia’s pizza in Abington has AMAZING pizza. About 20 minutes from Damascus.
