Deer Creek Campground

Creek access and shaded sites make Deer Creek Campground a practical base for exploring the Grand Staircase-Escalante region. This Bureau of Land Management facility sits along a small creek west of Capitol Reef, offering seven first-come, first-serve sites year-round. Each site includes a fire pit, picnic table, and raised tent platform large enough for most personal tents.

The creek flows behind the campsites, creating natural sound and attracting wildlife to the area. Dense grass partitions separate the sites, providing privacy between neighbors. A vault toilet serves the campground, and while drinking water is listed among amenities, recent visitors report the creek as the primary water source requiring filtration. Morgan E. notes "a small creek flows behind the sites providing a quaint outdoorsy feel."

Access requires careful planning since the road has limited turnaround space. Campers should park at the entrance and walk to select sites, as mid to large trailers may struggle with maneuvering room. The campground prohibits pets and allows alcohol. Sites fill quickly during peak seasons due to the limited number available.

For those needing full hookups or additional amenities, BLM Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument Deer Creek Campground sits just north with expanded facilities.

Many campers appreciated the private, creek-side sites and clean facilities at this small campground. Common feedback included praise for the peaceful setting, though space limitations restrict larger RVs.

Great, peaceful campground

I loved this campground. It is off the beaten path, but easily accessible in any car (no trailers though!). The sites are mostly private although some are closer than others. The pit toilet was clean and each site had a fire pit and picnic table. The raised tent pads were big enough for most personal tents. A few of us had vestibules that overhung the pad, but we all managed to make it work. It is near water so there were bugs, but nothing you can't handle with a little common sense and preparation. I would stay again in a heartbeat. I did not see any drinking water available... unless you want to filter the creek water.

Great Overnight Stay!

Amazing out-of-the-way location when visiting Grand Staircase. We stayed the night at this campsite after completing Escalante Arch & Natural Bridge. Great place for someone with a 2WD vehicle on their way to Capitol Reef. Restrooms were in good shape as well.

Beautiful location

This is the only official campground off Burr Trail. It's set along a nice little creek with the decent amount of vegetation to give you privacy from other campers. There are pit toilets and the only water source I am aware of is the creek.

Quaint camp

Small separated sites. Each site has a fire pit, raised platform for a tent, and a picnic table. The sites are partitioned with dense grass. A small creek flows behind the sites providing a quaint outdoorsy feel. There are only 7 sites and it is a self service site system. It is advised to park at the entrance and walk up to pick a site due to limited turn around space. Mid to large trailers might have an issue fitting into spaces. There is also a vault toilet!

Magical

If pines and a babbling creek appeal to you, this could be your new fav. Located west of Capitol Reef it can serve as a base camp for exploring Escalante and Capitol reef areas. Shaded sites along a creek feel private and serene.
FCFS 12 sites No hook ups and trailers over 20’ not advised. BUT, it does have water and just down the road a bit is Upper Pleasant Creek campground with amenities if you prefer.
