When traveling through the Bowie areas a recent addition for motorists searching for a place to stay the City of Bowie is the Pelham Park camping area. Primarily put into place for those participating in festivals, rodeos and trade weekends (held once a month on the weekend before the Second Monday), this facility is small but easy to access.
Exiting just off the main highway traveling past Bowie, highway 287, the park is just inside the city limits on your right. Those searching for this facility will notice a large Bowie Knife sculpture, the city’s tribute to their namesake before the parking area for the rodeo arena, trade grounds, city pool and camping facilities toward the far back corner.
The campground is surrounded by the park’s walking trail, some 2.5 miles in its entirety.
Spaces are designed for RV campers and have nice pull in slots for large camper units. Outdoor restroom facilities are available up a long walkway closer to the rodeo grounds, however are not ideal for those needing a quick restroom. Water fountains are located just beside the campground with clean drinking water.
During summer the pool facility is available for use at a small cost.
Reservations can be made for this facility by contacting the City of Bowie during regular office hours and are recommended as the offices are only open Monday through Friday.
Tips:
- call in advance, if there is a special event happening limited sites are available
- bring a portable awning for direct sun coverage as there is no covered picnic area at each campsite, however pavilion is nearby
