Stephen F. Austin State Park Campground

      Pleasant Texas State Park

We had a really nice relaxing stay at Stephen F Austin State Park near San Filepe, Texas. Great little state park easily accessed from I-10. The 38 RV sites are all asphalt pad pull throughs with 30/15 amp electric, water and sewer complete with concrete pad for table, fire pit, lantern and all well spaced for plenty of privacy...big rig friendly. They have an additional 39 tent only sites with water and 25 primitive. Screened shelters are reservable for tent camping with 20 amp electric and water plus one rustic cabin with amenities. There is a$5 daily entrance fee in addition to camping fees. The bathhouse facilities are brand new. It's a small park but they do have five miles of trails for hiking/biking with views of the Brazos River. We enjoyed the wildlife; deer strolling in the campground every morning and evening, birds, rabbits, frogs, turtles, a bobcat and numerous owls. They have a Nature Center; however it was not open during our visit. The park office has a small store with sundries and park souvenirs. The nearby San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site tells the story of early settlers to Texas and is worth a visit. We made a run to the nearby town of Sealy to do a much needed laundry stop...small community with grocery, dining and fuel to meet most needs. Really Nice Cabins

I have stayed in the cabins here four or five times. The first two years we had smaller groups so we stayed in the A Frame cabins. The last three years we've had their biggest one. There is a creek that runs through it and it is never over populated while I've been here. The cabin we've used was flooded and has not been rebuilt so we are looking for other places to hold our Spring Camp out. I hope they rebuild.

      Nice, Kind of Pricy

We got a spot here for one night with no reservations on a Thursday in late March, but all the spots were booked for the weekend. With taxes and fees the price came to $38 for a night at a FHU site.

All sites are pull through / bump out style. Our spot (#39) wasn't level. Spots come with a picnic table and fire pit.

Firewood and ice for sale here at campground.

Free showers are really nice and clean, look pretty new. Water never got hot for me though.

Friendly rangers at the office when we checked in, and they had lots of cute things to buy at the gift shop.

      Dumpsters and aluminum can recycling.

Ok cell reception, not many bars but both the att and Verizon phone worked fine. We heard the rangers tell other campers that there is free wifi at the campground but we didn't see it pop up when we looked for it.

Lots of nice short hiking trails here throughout the park.

      Well Equipped Campsites

We made a reservation for a tent site and found the rate very reasonable. Sites are well equipped with water, a fire pit with grill grate, picnic table, and pole to hang food if necessary. Bathrooms and dumpster area are clean and well lit. The park hosts were very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the short trails that were accessible from the campsite. Saw deer in the camp area and enjoyed (mostly) watching the big yellow garden spiders building their webs next to the trail in the morning.

      Lakeview RV Resort

      Rude Staff

I stayed here for 3 months and the manager Robert was very biased and unhospitable towards me the entire time. So I complained to the district manager Marty and told him I would not be extending my stay and would leave at end of month. He agreed and said I would get back my $50 deposit which is required for 5 days notice to move out (I was giving 2 weeks notice which is much more than the required 5 days). Upon checking out at the end of my stay Robert of course did not refund my $50 forcing me to call Marty again (Will update if I ever get my $50 back). On the final email they sent me with my electricity usage I noticed they changed my name to BLACKLIST and when I asked Marty he said 'correct you will never stay at one of our resorts again since you seemed unhappy' so to sum it up if you complain aboout how they treat you; you will be Blacklisted and have to fight for your deposit back.

*not kid friendly *not pet friendly *not people friendly *very very noisy *pool failed inspection and water seems to be chemically inbalanced even after reopening (water smells rotten) *hot tub jets do not work *dog yard is not cleaned

Stephen F Austin State Park, A Must Visit

OK, this was my second visit to a Texas State Park. Simply said, I was blown away with this park. Driving in, deer scattered the landscape. Like my trip to Huntsville State Park, I opted for a screened shelter. The protection from the elements were well worth the $122.50 I paid for four nights. With electric/water, I was very comfortable and was able to use my electric heater in my tent. The shelter came with a locking door, although I don't think anyone would bother you anyway. There are some nice trails, including one that will take you to the Brazos River. The park was nice and quiet and the weather was cold, I absolutely loved it. The Park entrance has a little Store and the town of Sealy is just a few miles away should you need supplies. The staff was remarkably helpful and courteous. I really enjoyed the peace of this park, the Solitude and good energy force you to take in it's grandeur. Since it was freezing cold, (which I loved) the extremely clean bathrooms, with showers would be a welcome site. I was surprised how clean the facility was, it was even heated. I definitely plan on returning to the park, maybe gonna try out the cabin.

      Highway 6 RV Resort

      Fine place to live,

I lived in this park from October 2021 until mid May 2022.  It is a clean and orderly place.

I made good use of the showers and bathrooms that were always clean.  I also used the recreation room that had a pool table, shuffle board table and large television.  Each day there was coffee and popcorn available. Weight lifting equipment and walking machine were in the room also. One room had four computers and one printer.  The entire park is fenced. There is a locked gate at the entrance.  Residents have a code to open the gate or a remote gate opener can be used if a deposit is paid for the device. Across the street is a county park with asphalt walking/running/biking paths around the large lake. I stayed there again November of 2022 but was there just a short time until I sold my 5th wheel trailer. The park is a quarter mile of a major highway which has plenty of stores and fastfood joints.

      Rayford Crossing RV Resort

      Well Managed and Manicured

We had to return our travel trailer to the dealership for some warranty work and wanted to have one last little getaway before handing it over. We opted to stay somewhere in the vicinity of the dealership, and this campground had an opening. So, we booked one of the last remaining sites and hit the road!

Located in a suburban area north of Houston, the campground was very easy to find. It was nestled among nice suburban homes but still close to the amenities of a suburban city. We arrived after the employees left the front desk, so they instructed us to pick up our materials at the front office. We immediately noticed how well maintained this campground was. We easily found Site 21, a standard back in site. The sites are all concrete and level with a yard of grass and full hookups, which we really appreciate. We were surprised that our site didn’t have a picnic table like we thought, but we probably could have called to request one (wasn’t a huge issue in this July Texas heat).

This campground is more like a residential area. We noticed that many vehicles were gone early on a weekday morning. Many of the “campers” had potted plants and other items that indicated they were long-term occupants. There were many rules for the campground such as no items allowed on the grass or under RVs and no trash cans at sites, but none of these were unreasonable. Staff was visible throughout the day, often maintaining the grounds and collecting trash at each site (trash collection is each morning). It was extremely quiet, clean, and manicured.

Would we visit this campground again? Yes, if we plan to visit the Houston area for business in the future. We prefer the forest and the solitude that it affords, but this is a nice place to stay if you have business in the area. Rayford Crossing has amenities that may appeal to families with children such as a playground, beautiful pool, hot tub, shuffleboard, horse shoes, and fishing. The nice paved roads and sites and the dog park were nice as well. Our only complaints would be the price and lack of privacy, but I guess that’s to be expected in an RV resort near a major US city like Houston. Basically, it served our purpose.

    Guide to Pinehurst

Cabin rentals near Pinehurst, Texas provide access to pine forests and waterways with year-round availability due to the mild Gulf Coast climate. Most locations average daytime temperatures between 60-95°F depending on season, with humidity levels highest during summer months. Water recreation remains popular at nearby Lake Conroe, which covers 21,000 acres with 157 miles of shoreline.

    What to do

Fishing opportunities: Lake Conroe-Houston North KOA offers direct access to a fishing pond stocked with small mouth bass. "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The setting is peaceful and convenient. Our site was right in the stock pond," notes Logan S.

Water recreation: Thousand Trails Lake Conroe provides multiple water activities beyond standard swimming. "Gorgeous campground with a large lake and two ponds, a pool, putt putt, & tons of activities for kids," according to Nick & Allyssa S.

Wildlife viewing: Cabin guests can observe local fauna throughout the year. "We saw an abundance of deer and bunnies, plus we were able to listen in on a conversation between a very large owl who had taken up residence in one of the trees by our site," reports Jim P. from Stephen F. Austin State Park.

Seasonal events: Campgrounds typically organize themed activities during holidays. "The themed activities and crafts were a huge hit, especially the Halloween fun," mentions a visitor to Jellystone Park in Waller.

    What campers like

Security features: Royal Palms RV Resort provides enhanced security measures that appeal to cabin guests. "Located just outside Tomball, Texas, this resort is creekside out in country. Many stores, restaurants and attractions within a few miles," reports Barry M.

Bathroom facilities: Modern shower and restroom buildings receive positive feedback from visitors. "A brand new toilet/shower facility opened in early November 2020 in this FHU campground that includes 2 family restrooms," mentions a camper at Stephen F. Austin State Park.

Proximity to urban amenities: Many cabin campgrounds offer convenient access to nearby towns. "Super easy to find and near all major shops! Bathrooms were super clean and modern, easy access to the lake and dog friendly," notes Estefania R. about Lake Conroe RV.

Shade coverage: Tree canopy provides natural temperature control for cabin sites. "Very wooded, tons of wildlife. We stopped for one night on our way to El Campo. We will be back for a weekend to further enjoy," writes Andrew C.

    What you should know

Reservation timing: Holiday weekends require booking well in advance, especially for premium cabins. "We stayed 4th of July weekend. It was awesome! Clean and very friendly," reports Jason B. from Lake Conroe-Houston North KOA.

Noise considerations: Some campgrounds experience ambient sounds from nearby transportation routes. "A little noisy with train tracks and airport nearby," notes TK n E. about Northlake RV Resort.

Wi-Fi quality: Internet service varies significantly between properties. "I booked this site because it shows wifi as an amenity. However, the wifi is a pay-by-the-day only offer," cautions Russell E. about Thousand Trails Lake Conroe.

Seasonal crowds: Population density fluctuates throughout the year. "The campground is huge, and you cannot reserve a specific site. You drive around and pick a site, then call and let them know which one you're in," explains Debbie J.

    Tips for camping with families

Activity planning: Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park maintains numerous family-focused recreation options. "The kids absolutely loved the water zone and lazy river—we literally couldn't get them to leave. The themed activities and crafts were a huge hit," reports a visitor.

Space considerations: Cabin dimensions vary between properties and unit types. "The cabins look almost brand new," notes Robert M., indicating newer structures with modern layouts.

Pool availability: Swimming facilities typically operate seasonally with specific hours. "The pool and hot tub are open during the day. They are clean and lots of lounge chairs for you to just hang out," describes Alisa P. at Northlake RV Resort.

Nature programs: Several parks provide structured wildlife education for children. "Nice trails but very busy on weekends as Houstonians escape the city for some country fun," observes a visitor to Stephen F. Austin State Park.

    Tips from RVers

Site selection: Stephen F. Austin State Park offers cabin options with convenient layouts. "Full hookups with 30 amps. Semi circle drive thru that fit my 44 ft motorhome and towed Jeep. Deer all over and saw a 6 point buck," says James R.

Power reliability: Electricity access varies across campgrounds. "The dog park is horrible. It's all sand and no bag dispenser like other 'luxury' resorts have had. The internet is not good at all...tv cut out every two minutes," warns Deb J. about 7 Bridges Luxury RV Resort.

Road conditions: Access routes may require planning for larger vehicles. "Interstate 10 construction, the eastbound exit for San Felipe is closed so the navigation system took us further East and then backtracked on some horrible condition rural roads," cautions a visitor to Stephen F. Austin State Park.

Site spacing: Proximity to neighboring campsites affects privacy levels. "The campground is well laid out. Easy access to sites, amenities and the Lake," notes Robert M. about Thousand Trails Lake Conroe.
