    Lake Houston Wilderness Park

    Really Nice Cabins

I have stayed in the cabins here four or five times. The first two years we had smaller groups so we stayed in the A Frame cabins. The last three years we've had their biggest one. There is a creek that runs through it and it is never over populated while I've been here. The cabin we've used was flooded and has not been rebuilt so we are looking for other places to hold our Spring Camp out. I hope they rebuild.

    Lakeview RV Resort

    Rude Staff

I stayed here for 3 months and the manager Robert was very biased and unhospitable towards me the entire time. So I complained to the district manager Marty and told him I would not be extending my stay and would leave at end of month. He agreed and said I would get back my $50 deposit which is required for 5 days notice to move out (I was giving 2 weeks notice which is much more than the required 5 days). Upon checking out at the end of my stay Robert of course did not refund my $50 forcing me to call Marty again (Will update if I ever get my $50 back). On the final email they sent me with my electricity usage I noticed they changed my name to BLACKLIST and when I asked Marty he said 'correct you will never stay at one of our resorts again since you seemed unhappy' so to sum it up if you complain aboout how they treat you; you will be Blacklisted and have to fight for your deposit back.

*not kid friendly *not pet friendly *not people friendly *very very noisy *pool failed inspection and water seems to be chemically inbalanced even after reopening (water smells rotten) *hot tub jets do not work *dog yard is not cleaned

    Rayford Crossing RV Resort

    Well Managed and Manicured

We had to return our travel trailer to the dealership for some warranty work and wanted to have one last little getaway before handing it over. We opted to stay somewhere in the vicinity of the dealership, and this campground had an opening. So, we booked one of the last remaining sites and hit the road!

Located in a suburban area north of Houston, the campground was very easy to find. It was nestled among nice suburban homes but still close to the amenities of a suburban city. We arrived after the employees left the front desk, so they instructed us to pick up our materials at the front office. We immediately noticed how well maintained this campground was. We easily found Site 21, a standard back in site. The sites are all concrete and level with a yard of grass and full hookups, which we really appreciate. We were surprised that our site didn’t have a picnic table like we thought, but we probably could have called to request one (wasn’t a huge issue in this July Texas heat).

This campground is more like a residential area. We noticed that many vehicles were gone early on a weekday morning. Many of the “campers” had potted plants and other items that indicated they were long-term occupants. There were many rules for the campground such as no items allowed on the grass or under RVs and no trash cans at sites, but none of these were unreasonable. Staff was visible throughout the day, often maintaining the grounds and collecting trash at each site (trash collection is each morning). It was extremely quiet, clean, and manicured.

Would we visit this campground again? Yes, if we plan to visit the Houston area for business in the future. We prefer the forest and the solitude that it affords, but this is a nice place to stay if you have business in the area. Rayford Crossing has amenities that may appeal to families with children such as a playground, beautiful pool, hot tub, shuffleboard, horse shoes, and fishing. The nice paved roads and sites and the dog park were nice as well. Our only complaints would be the price and lack of privacy, but I guess that’s to be expected in an RV resort near a major US city like Houston. Basically, it served our purpose.

    Double Lake NF Campground

    Personal opinion for my interests

Campground not full. Very quiet, sites not on top of each other (some more private than others), gravel pads for rv, tent, table, lantern post and campfire ring. Water & electric or primitive sites both available. My personal agenda is all things nature related. The land, peace, plants, birds, land animals and TREES, water sources and types. To enjoy all the beauty (in all forms) which our earth provides.

    Houston East RV Resort

    Beautiful Landscaped Sites

Ok these are all premium sites, resort is easy off and on i-10. Gated resort, nice sites, roads are all nice concrete, with concrete parking pads for RV and or tow vehicles. The sites are nicely landscaped, grass, trees, picnic tables, full hookups, include cable and wifi. It is located right off and beside i-10, so there is road noise, but everything food, restaurants, shopping, is all nearby. It's a great stop if traveling i-10 passing through. Oh they also have covered RV sites should you want to beat some of that sunshine off your rig in summer heat. There is a small pool that is nice, and a lake behind campground so one row of sites has lake views. We just took a pull through site under the canopy of trees, it's very nice!

    Village Creek State Park Campground

    Little Hidden Gem

This is a small hidden state park that has rustic beauty. 25 campsites with electric and water, that can be used for campers or tents (tent pads at each site). We camped with a 27 ft camper, with barely enough room. Slightly unlevel, needed 2 blocks on left side. Each site has a tent pad, table, and firepit. There is a dump station. Extremely clean shower and bath house. Several hiking and biking trails, as well as a small beach area, kayaking, fishing, gazebo and playground. A nature center was on site which has activities for families on the weekends! Walk in tent camping without electric and water available. Our site #4 was only 16 dollars a night. Park rangers and camp hosts were knowledgeable and kind.

    Eagles Point RV and Camping

    Hidden Gem!

Even though our reservation was last minute, the owners were super quick in getting back to us. The guy who met us at the camp was also very friendly and showed us to our spot. $35 for dry camping, but there’s was also a cool pavilion that we were allowed to use that has a power outlet where you can charge your phone. There’s also a barbecue pit and a fridge too.

There’s plenty of space for dispersed camping and the lake is magnificent.

There seemed to be some long term residents but they won’t bother you at all. Restroom and shower super clean.

T-mobile signal was also strong. Would stay here again!

Guide to Liberty

Cabin camping near Liberty, Texas offers camping accommodations with varying levels of comfort across multiple parks within a 40-mile radius. Most cabins remain open year-round with seasonal peaks from March through October when daytime temperatures range from 75-95°F. The Trinity River and Lake Houston ecosystems provide diverse wildlife habitats with over 200 bird species documented in the region.

What to do

Kayaking at creek access points: Lake Houston Wilderness Park features multiple waterways for paddling exploration. "This park is just a short drive from Houston yet feels like you are in the middle of nowhere. It has various types of camping spots in different parts of the park and great hiking trails through varying terrain," notes camper Haleigh A.

Fishing from dedicated piers: Trinity Bay RV Park & Lodging offers excellent fishing access directly from their property. "Great location for fishing, birding and boating. Next door to beautiful Trinity Bay and River with nice fishing pier with lights, two public boat ramps, and Fort Anahuac Park," according to Lori1234! R.

Wildlife viewing on maintained trails: Village Creek State Park Campground features hiking paths through diverse ecosystems. "Great hiking and biking trails. Campspots are well wooded. A little wet this time of year but to be expected," reports Ransom J. who visited in March 2024.

What campers like

Level concrete pads: Houston East RV Resort maintains well-constructed sites. "Spotlessly clean resort. Shady as well as covered sites. Easy on and off I10. Reasonable rates. Great for overnight stay or as a base for exploring Houston," explains Mike H.

Swimming facilities: Many cabin-equipped parks offer water recreation. "We spent time at the pool and hot tub. The property is clean and well maintained," shares Greg S. about Mont Belvieu RV Resort.

Privacy between sites: Several parks feature natural barriers between cabins. "There is a lot of shade. However, the sites are kinda close together. But there are trees and shrubs between most of the sites," notes Charles S. about Village Creek State Park.

What you should know

Seasonal closures: Some parks experience weather-related closures. "Half of the park was closed due to Hurricane Harvey from 2017," reported Annell N. about Village Creek, though recent reviews indicate full reopening.

Limited cell service: Connectivity varies significantly by location. "Mosquitoes abound and there is no cell signal or wi-fi. Prepare to drive 20 minutes to grocery," warns Phoebe M.

Reservation requirements: Eagles Point RV and Camping requires advance booking but accommodates last-minute stays when possible. "Even though our reservation was last minute, the owners were super quick in getting back to us," reports Purusha A.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Several parks offer kid-friendly amenities. "Plenty of trails, wildlife, bathrooms and good fishing. We go here a lot! It's always good fun! And very clean," says Amanda C. about Lake Houston Wilderness Park.

Swimming options for children: Emerald Lake Resort provides water recreation suitable for families. "They have an indoor and an outdoor hot tub that overlooks the lake. We had so much fun," notes David S.

Age restrictions at some locations: Not all parks welcome unsupervised children. "This place is very much tailored to longterm RV/campers who are 55+... ALL kids under the age of 16 are not to be at the pool, using the restrooms/showers, or being outside away from their designated camp site without constant adult supervision," warns Megan about Eastlake RV Resort.

Tips from RVers

Hook-up specifications: Most RV-friendly cabins feature electrical connections. "About 30 mins to Big Thicket visitors center and hike access... We had 30 amp and water hook-ups. Dump station nearby with two sides," shares Craig J. about Village Creek State Park.

Parking considerations: Some cabin areas require separate parking. "Didn't like the fact that you have to park away from your camp site and walk everything in, especially when there are 'roads' that lead to the camp sites," notes Marcy F. about Lake Houston Wilderness Park.

Shower facilities: Galveston Bay RV Resort maintains quality facilities for cabin guests. "Well kept, on the water, great pier fishing spot!" reports Lisa N., highlighting the waterfront amenities available to all guests including those staying in cabins.
