    Overview

Hanks Creek Park has something for everyone, with plenty of water sports on Sam Rayburn Reservoir and volleyball, mountain biking, wild life viewing and birding for those who want to stay on shore. The Red-cockaded woodpecker, an endangered species, is found throughout the forest surrounding the reservoir. The bird makes its home by pecking cavities in large, living pine trees.

    Recreation

Fishing is excellent for largemouth bass, crappie, catfish and sunfish, with frequent fishing tournaments. The lake is also popular for jet skiing, water skiing and swimming.

    Natural Features

Sam Rayburn Reservoir, also called Lake Sam Rayburn, boasts over 114,000 surface acres, making it the largest man-made lake completely in Texas. It's surrounded by the Angelina National Forest, and is within short proximity to the Sabine and Davy Crockett National Forests.

    Nearby Attractions

The 20,700-acre Bannister Wildlife Management Area is on the northern peninsula of the lake. Hikers and bikers can come here to explore the designated Eastern Wild Turkey restoration site.

The quiet country setting of our cabins is a great alternative to traditional hotel style lodging. Whether you stay a night, a week, a month or longer, you’ll find the fully furnished cabins to be comfortable and cozy. In talking with our guests, we have learned that finding short term housing or furnished housing can be challenging, so we offer our cabins for Corporate Housing or Extended Stay. All of our cabins offer air conditioning, satellite television, and WiFi. All of our Cabins include basic kitchenware (Dishes, Cookware, Appliances, Etc) and linens. Most cabins are small pet friendly.

Great safe wholesome family atmosphere, clean, well maintained flush toilets, showers, children's playground.. main camping side thru attendants that didn't allow drunkenness in camping areas, dedicated bouyed swim area, no life guard but gently slopes on sand. That is near boat ramp so wife can let daddy watch kids so she can fish

It is centrally located on big sam for great fishing , nice clean

Fantastic lake views & great on-site restaurant

Our sites were amazing with gorgeous lake views with sunsets for dayyyys!  The on-site restaurant had good cocktails and great food. We went during the winter (November, right before Thanksgiving), so didnt do any of the swimming/water activities. Super nice staff and all around great time. Clean park. We will definitely be back!

Northshore RV Resort on Lake Livingston

        JUST YIKES.

TLDR:  Dirty, overpriced, bait n switch offerings, NOT an RV Resort.

This was the most disappointing RV park I've ever been to. It is marketed and priced as an "RV resort"....It is not. We had a good time because we had good company but this place was the butt of a joke...We went for Memorial Day weekend. (A holiday weekend) The kids couldn't play in the grass because it was so tall. One of the permanent campers (there are many permanent RVs) came by and asked if we wanted to borrow a mower..not kidding. It was sweet of him to offer, but we paid $73/night!  Just yikes.

We were also warned not to go down to the beach area because it was destroyed by waves and there were water snakes everywhere.  We were taken aback at the overall "resort" and could only laugh at how absurd it was lol.

The pool was packed with locals (It was a holiday weekend though, so I'll give them that one).  The lady at the check in was super rude and was put out by us checking in. Overall, I would NEVER come back here. We camp at expensive places and state parks and everything in between. I've never written a bad review for a campsite, because I've never found a place that was this terrible. Had it been priced accordingly, I would've been ok with it, but this is NOT a resort and shouldn't be a resort price! Yikes.

There was more that I'm probably forgetting...but some other highlights: The splash pad didnt work. The kiddos said the playground was gross and sketchily creaking.  There is no clubhouse. Oh, also, the infinity pool pictured on the website is 100% not the same pool that is there.  There are many other campsites on the lake...go to any other one!

PICS SHOW THINGS FROM THEIR WEBSITE THAT DON'T EXIST OR ARE VERY MISREPRESENTED...In short...Book something else. I hope they get their act together, but their website is bait n switch.

We absolutely love this park!  RV and tent sites right on the water, beach area for swimming, boat docks and ramp, etc.  We extended our stay and plan to for awhile!  The staff is so welcoming!  Oh and there are 13 gorgeous cabins for rent!  I highly recommend this park!

        Hidden gem

Beautiful small state park. We usually tent camp but this time we decided staying at a cabin. Nice, beautiful and modern cabins. Love the enclosed porch and open porch as well. The cabin was spacious enough for our family of 6. The new family restroom close to the cabins was great, nice and clean. I will be back.

        Cute little state park

My wife and I rented a cabin for Christmas. It was clean and new. Wonderful bathrooms nearby. We hiked the trails and went and checked out the little lake.

The park staff where super friendly. We had a great stay.

I would give it 5 stars, but the park does not have RV sites. Cabins and primitive camping only

        Salmon Lake Park & Resort

        Great Place to Camp!

We LOVED our stay at Salmon Lake! We have been here a few times. The staff is amazing, the prices are great and include full hookups and the campground is one of the most unique places we’ve ever stayed. There is an old west town, cabins, a ton of space to explore, some neat photo ops and a great swimming hole with a sand bottom. We were told that we were welcome to spread out and take up 2 spaces. The place was built in the 80’s for festivals so the new owners are working on a lot of upgrades. The new bathhouse is really nice. We love that we can camp in the woods or under the stars- there are a lot of options. We were also really happy when it rained and due to the sandy soil, the water drained quickly and we didn’t have to deal with mud holes that evening. If you’re into old school camping- this is your place!!

        Great spot for the kiddos!

Super nice staff and full saturday breakfast (eggs/bacon/pancakes/coffee etc--extra fee, but very reasonable!)

Pool, jump pad, playground, trike rentals, Rock/gem mining slough, movies/events, etc.

Sites are level pull-through sites and most have a clear view of the playground, which gives the kids a sense of freedom.  They have cabins and cool teepees as well, but have only ever camped in RV here.

Have been camping here in the summers and both Easter & Halloween weekends and they do easter egg/candy hunts and have other events for the kids/kids at heart.

We love coming here and the staff are always very kind to us. (photos on this review are during the halloween event--we decorated our campsite lol)

        Salmon Lake Park & Resort

        Underrated & unique family fun!

We have camped at Salmon Lake many times. It is a favorite of the kiddos. The original owner was a house mover, so there are all kinds of old "western town" type setups..old jail, old barber shop, tons of old cars etc. It is fun just to walk around and look at them all. On some visits there is a train ride that runs, but not always. Some of the buildings are cabin rentals. We have never rented a cabin, only done RV camping, but the cabins look so neat!!

There is a playground by the lake and The lake is gorgeous and the kids like to swim in it. It has a giant slide for them and a swimming dock in the middle. It is like a step back in time to the simpler days, very no frills camping. We have brought dirt bikes and small atv before. Owners are ok if you bring them, just be respectful and don't tear anything up. The owners are great hosts and super nice.

All the spots are different (there are 100s of spots...they don't reserve spots. you just get there and then go pick one.)  There is a wooded section of sites behind the lake, but have never camped in that area. We usually pick a spot in the field near the big fire pit or tree. Most sites do not have fire pits or tables, but we usually find one near a fire pit or table with no problems. Be sure to check the sites before you unhook...some have full hookups, some have sketchy looking electric, but we just check everything before unhooking and use a surge protector.  We always look for full hookup sites and have never had a problem finding one way away from other campers. 10/10 one of our favorite campsites and a seriously underrated spot. We always say it feels like going back to a summer camp in the 70s-80s (in the best kind of way!!)

We have never seen such a beautiful and immaculate KOA in our travels! It truly shows pride of ownership by the family that runs it. It is located in Lufkin, Texas and has lovely scenery including trees and a pond. This park has everything including large paved pull-through sites with 30/50 amp. Each site has a grassy area and picnic table. There is a great pool and outdoor park area to play in. Check out this KOA if you are in the Lufkin area. A true gem! 😉👍🏻💗

This is really now the Lufkin KOA Journey. I'll try to get the name changed for this listing. This RV park is one of the nicest we've seen. We arrived here on a Saturday and we plan to leave to go further south the following Saturday. The pads appear to be newly poured concrete. All very level. The hookups are in good working order. Quiet Park

The park is located 6 miles outside and south of Palestine. It’s almost halfway on Co Rd 156 between FM 2419 and US 287. Once in the park, the roads are a little rough and there is a mix between Mobile Homes and RVs. Our visit has been quiet and peaceful outside of a few barks from the dogs. The owners seem to be pleasant.

On our way home from Crystal Beach, we went online and rented a space for the night. I WISH that I had time to stay longer because it was so beautiful.
