Best Cabin Camping near Crockett, TX

Several cabin options dot the East Texas landscape near Crockett, creating opportunities for lakeside and woodland retreats. Salmon Lake Park & Resort offers cabins built inside reimagined western town buildings alongside a lake with swimming areas. Fort Boggy State Park Campground provides modern cabins with enclosed porches and spacious interiors suitable for families. Most cabin facilities include electricity and basic furniture, while bathrooms may be located in separate buildings. "Beautiful, modern cabins. Love the enclosed porch and open porch as well. The cabin was spacious enough for our family of 6," noted one visitor about Fort Boggy's accommodations. Rusk KOA features cabins with proximity to family-friendly amenities like playground areas, swimming pools, and organized activities.

Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. The Ranch at Walton Springs, Marina Village Resort, and Bethy Creek Resort all include cabin options with varying amenities. Lufkin KOA Journey provides cabin rentals with access to their "beautiful and immaculate" grounds, which include large paved sites, grassy areas, and a pool. Cabins at On The Lake RV Resort benefit from proximity to an on-site restaurant that reviewers describe as having "good cocktails and great food." Several properties include camp stores or markets where basic provisions can be purchased, including Salmon Lake Park, Bethy Creek Resort, and both KOA locations. Visitors staying at waterfront cabins should prepare for potential wildlife encounters, as one review mentioned water snakes near some lake areas.

    Salmon Lake Park & Resort

    Underrated & unique family fun!

We have camped at Salmon Lake many times. It is a favorite of the kiddos. The original owner was a house mover, so there are all kinds of old "western town" type setups..old jail, old barber shop, tons of old cars etc. It is fun just to walk around and look at them all. On some visits there is a train ride that runs, but not always. Some of the buildings are cabin rentals. We have never rented a cabin, only done RV camping, but the cabins look so neat!!

There is a playground by the lake and The lake is gorgeous and the kids like to swim in it. It has a giant slide for them and a swimming dock in the middle. It is like a step back in time to the simpler days, very no frills camping. We have brought dirt bikes and small atv before. Owners are ok if you bring them, just be respectful and don't tear anything up. The owners are great hosts and super nice.

All the spots are different (there are 100s of spots...they don't reserve spots. you just get there and then go pick one.)  There is a wooded section of sites behind the lake, but have never camped in that area. We usually pick a spot in the field near the big fire pit or tree. Most sites do not have fire pits or tables, but we usually find one near a fire pit or table with no problems. Be sure to check the sites before you unhook...some have full hookups, some have sketchy looking electric, but we just check everything before unhooking and use a surge protector.  We always look for full hookup sites and have never had a problem finding one way away from other campers. 10/10 one of our favorite campsites and a seriously underrated spot. We always say it feels like going back to a summer camp in the 70s-80s (in the best kind of way!!)

    Hidden gem

Beautiful small state park. We usually tent camp but this time we decided staying at a cabin. Nice, beautiful and modern cabins. Love the enclosed porch and open porch as well. The cabin was spacious enough for our family of 6. The new family restroom close to the cabins was great, nice and clean. I will be back.

    Lufkin KOA Journey

    Beautiful KOA!

We have never seen such a beautiful and immaculate KOA in our travels! It truly shows pride of ownership by the family that runs it. It is located in Lufkin, Texas and has lovely scenery including trees and a pond. This park has everything including large paved pull-through sites with 30/50 amp. Each site has a grassy area and picnic table. There is a great pool and outdoor park area to play in. Check out this KOA if you are in the Lufkin area. A true gem! 😉👍🏻💗

    Rusk KOA

    Great spot for the kiddos!

Super nice staff and full saturday breakfast (eggs/bacon/pancakes/coffee etc--extra fee, but very reasonable!)

Pool, jump pad, playground, trike rentals, Rock/gem mining slough, movies/events, etc.

Sites are level pull-through sites and most have a clear view of the playground, which gives the kids a sense of freedom.  They have cabins and cool teepees as well, but have only ever camped in RV here.

Have been camping here in the summers and both Easter & Halloween weekends and they do easter egg/candy hunts and have other events for the kids/kids at heart.

We love coming here and the staff are always very kind to us. (photos on this review are during the halloween event--we decorated our campsite lol)

This place is very unique and surrounded by water. Cool Signs and nice looking cabins when you drive in. Property is laid out nicely with lots of camp spots along the water and rv sites by the creek. Has a little country store. Appears to be good fishing

I would give it 5 stars, but the park does not have RV sites. Cabins and primitive camping only

    Salmon Lake Park & Resort

    Disappointed

Salmon lake campground is a mixture between an off the beaten path campground and a destination style park. The campground is fairly large and has numerous old buildings and vehicles to look at as well as a lake to swim and play. At this campground there is a stage for them to host music type festivals, so the campsite layout makes sense to maximize getting as many RVs on the property as possible. The campsites were established in their open fields of grass, are very tight and far from level. The building that originally attracted us to the park are now dilapidated and unsightly. There is a vast difference between vintage/rustic and dumpy/neglected.

The folks that run the place seem to be very nice and check in was fairly simple. There are no reservations available for a specific sites and the vast majority of campsites are 30 amp. I spent a considerable amount of time driving around the park trying to locate a campsite that has 50 amp service. Very few sites have any amenities such as campfire rings or tables. You pay for a section of grass (with hook ups) to park your rig on and that’s about it. The water is also heavily sulphuric which isn’t a bad thing, it was just a shock.

Lastly, the majority of roads are compacted sandy, dirt mixture making it a little dicey to travel in a heavy rig. We had a nice visit but the campground wasn’t for us.

Guide to Crockett

Cabin camping options around Crockett, Texas offer visitors lakeside relaxation and woodland retreats within East Texas pine country. The area sits at approximately 350-400 feet elevation with humid subtropical climate conditions that create mild winters and hot summers. Most cabin accommodations remain open year-round with peak rental seasons running from late spring through early fall.

What to do

Lakeside swimming: At Salmon Lake Park & Resort, visitors can enjoy swimming in the lake with unique amenities. "The lake is gorgeous and the kids like to swim in it. It has a giant slide for them and a swimming dock in the middle," notes one camper who finds the setting reminiscent of "summer camp in the 70s-80s."

Fishing opportunities: Waterfront cabins at Bethy Creek Resort provide direct lake access for anglers. "Almost all spots have a great view of the lake. Ours had a deck right over the water. The fishing was decent too," reports one visitor who enjoyed the waterfront setting.

Trail exploration: Fort Boggy State Park offers hiking options through East Texas woodlands accessible from their cabin area. A winter visitor mentioned, "We hiked the trails and went and checked out the little lake," noting the experience was complemented by "super friendly" park staff.

What campers like

Unique structures: The Ranch at Walton Springs offers peaceful cabin settings outside mainstream tourist areas. "The park is located 6 miles outside and south of Palestine... Our visit has been quiet and peaceful outside of a few barks from the dogs," notes a visitor who appreciated the serene environment.

Restaurant access: On The Lake RV Resort provides cabin guests with convenient dining options on-site. A recent visitor appreciated "gorgeous lake views with sunsets for dayyyys! The on-site restaurant had good cocktails and great food," making meal planning simpler during cabin stays.

Cabin privacy: The cabins at several locations offer varying levels of seclusion. A Yellow Rose RV Park visitor highlighted the night sky visibility: "A huge plus was seeing the million stars under the Texas sky!" This indicates minimal light pollution and good cabin positioning for stargazing.

What you should know

Water conditions: Several lakefront properties have specific water considerations. At Bethy Creek Resort, reviews mention the excellent lake views but caution about seasonal fluctuations. During busy periods like "Thanksgiving Week" the resort becomes "Very quiet!" according to one visitor.

Reservation timing: Early booking is essential for weekend stays at Rusk KOA, particularly for special events. "We have been camping here in the summers and both Easter & Halloween weekends and they do easter egg/candy hunts and have other events for the kids/kids at heart," mentions one family who returns regularly.

Cabin amenities: Many cabins require guests to bring their own bedding supplies. A Fort Boggy visitor noted their cabin was "clean and new" with "wonderful bathrooms nearby," suggesting some facilities have separate bathroom buildings rather than in-unit facilities.

Tips for camping with families

Activity planning: Lufkin KOA Journey offers family-friendly amenities near their cabins. "This park has everything including large paved pull-through sites with 30/50 amp. Each site has a grassy area and picnic table. There is a great pool and outdoor park area to play in," explains one visitor who found the grounds "beautiful and immaculate."

Cabin sizing: Consider occupancy limits when booking. A Fort Boggy State Park visitor noted, "The cabin was spacious enough for our family of 6," suggesting this location works well for medium-sized family groups.

Entertainment options: Rusk KOA provides structured activities for children. "Super nice staff and full Saturday breakfast... Pool, jump pad, playground, trike rentals, Rock/gem mining slough, movies/events, etc." describes a repeat visitor who appreciates the family-oriented amenities.

Tips from RVers

Site selection: When staying at cabin areas that also accommodate RVs, location matters. One visitor to On The Lake RV Resort noted, "The sites are very close together, typical KOA style," suggesting those seeking more privacy should request specific cabin locations.

Utilities reliability: Check what hookups and utilities your cabin includes. At Salmon Lake, one visitor advised, "Some sites do not have fire pits or tables, but we usually find one near a fire pit or table with no problems," indicating amenities can vary widely even within the same property.

Seasonal timing: Different times of year impact your cabin camping experience. A visitor to On The Lake RV Resort mentioned, "We went during the winter (November, right before Thanksgiving), so didn't do any of the swimming/water activities," but still found plenty to enjoy at the property during off-season.
