What to do
Trail riding to scenic overlooks: Dale Hollow Lake Primitive Camping provides access to various viewpoints through marked trails. "Beautiful spot close to the water. Secluded area that can be reached via GPS coordinates ONLY (we learned this after trying to check in at the Dale Hollow campground)," notes Melody S., who also mentions the 45-minute proximity to Standing Stone State Park.
Lake swimming and boating: Dale Hollow Lake State Resort Park offers multiple water access points. "Great spot. Full hook ups at many spots. Sites are in cul de sacs. Lake is beautiful and really close," according to Joe K., who visited in May 2024. The park maintains several boat ramps with parking areas.
Fishing trips: Multiple primitive sites around Dale Hollow Lake accommodate fishing excursions. "We took a pontoon boat out to Kemper Flats on Dale Hollow lake for a few days relaxing fishing. Primitive site, island with a porta toilet. Camp right on the side of the lake, very quiet and peaceful," reports Andy K.
What campers like

What you should know
GPS coordinates crucial for some sites: Several primitive camping areas require precise navigation. "Secluded area that can be reached via GPS coordinates ONLY," warns Melody S. about Dale Hollow Lake Primitive Camping. Call ahead to obtain exact coordinates or reference points.
Ferry closures affect access routes: Check current conditions before departure. Regarding Turnhole Backcountry Campsite, Mandy C. advises, "The Green River Ferry seems to be non-operational a lot. Call the hotline the day of your drive in to see which route you should take: 270-758-2166."
Water availability varies by location: True West Campground & Stables provides reliable water access. "Water all throughout the barn and easy to get to," notes Heather S., while at Turnhole, Mandy C. cautions, "Despite this campsite being surrounded by the Green River on 3 sides, water is hard to come by here, and hiking it in may be your best bet."
Tips for camping with families
Horseless camping options: Not all visitors bring horses to equestrian campgrounds. "East Fork Stables is a HUGE equestrian campground that, guess what....you don't have to have a horse to stay at!" explains Shelly S. "They have a whole loop complete with a pavilion cookhouse and annoying triangle bell that's perfect for campers, tents and hammocks."

Playground availability: Dale Hollow State Resort Park accommodates younger visitors. "Playgrounds are everywhere. Very clean. Full hookups. Nice pool and mini golf too!" Beth H. mentions, though she notes "their isn't really a place to access gorgeous dale hollow lake without a boat."
Tips from RVers
Boondocking options: King's Coach Stop provides basic overnight accommodations. "There are spots to fit up to a 50' RV and on the property as well!" reports Jake C., making this a viable option for larger rigs requiring minimal facilities.
Water hookup length requirements: Dale Hollow Lake State Resort Park has water connections requiring extended hoses. "We ended up having to go buy a longer water hose bc the hookup was more than 30 foot away. We now keep a 50 foot hose, but didn't realize at the time there was actually hookups that far away," advises Beth H.
RV site access challenges: True West Campground accommodates RVs despite tight access. "The sites can be tricky for folks who aren't used to having a horse trailer. But, if you have the right skills, you got it!" explains Jovee S., who stayed there in October 2021.
