    different, in a good way

I enjoyed my 3 nights. I had a great view of a pond and a row of A-frames but the sites on my passenger (viewing) side were not occupied or I would have been billboarded. The  sites are very close together but the season is apparently over. Very little traffic even on thanksgiving. The roads are narrow and the trees get close. Th signage could be better but the host left me a text when I arrived and found me while I was waiting outside the office. Very quiet, no road noise or trains or planes. Just a little longer drive off the main highway

Small but clean. Very friendly staff. There are plenty of trees for shade. Nice pool, bathrooms and rec room. The laundry room is large and air conditioned. There is a dog park, horseshoes and cornhole. They offer daily breakfast and lunch and will deliver site made pizza to your camper. They also have a community garden.Very close to Memphis. The only downside is it has quite a bit of road traffic noise and a strange side road entrance.1

We enjoyed staying so close to the water. We fished right from the bank (must have a MS license). The water, electric, and sewer hook-ups are very close to the site. The picnic, grilling, and fire pit area is nice. The parking area is only wide enough fir the camper. It would be nice to have a paved space under our awning. We were disappointed in the amount of trash along the bank of the lake. We picked up an entire trash bag full when we arrived and more throughout the weekend. Overall it was a great trip and we will be back.

Also, the beach area down the road at the boat ramp is closed for construction. It will be nice when it reopens.

Our site is right on the lake with a great fishing spot. The area for grilling and eating and fire pit is nice. The electric, water, and sewer hookups are very close. The parking area is not very wide. Only wide enough for the camper. I wish there was a better are for enjoying time under the awning. I was disappointed in the trash located along the bank of the lake. We cleaned up an entire trash bag full an then more along the way. Overall it’s a great campground and we would stay here again.

    EZ Daze RV Park

    Clean, concrete pads, good showers.

Ez Daze RV Park, Southaven, MS - We stayed one night in November. Easy pull through, level concrete site so we didn’t have to unhitch, very clean bathrooms and showers. They have two regular shower stalls which are extremely shallow and one ADA stall with pull down bench. We didn’t have much interaction with the staff because as soon as I walked in, about 4p, I was directed to find my site information outside in the after hours arrival box. Great if you’re looking for contactless registration or do in fact arrive after hours. There was debris in our space that must have been left by the previous camper and we had to get out and clear it before we could pull into the site. Appeared to be large broken pieces of a heavy plastic bumper. (Reason for 4 stars instead of 5) Strong wifi, cable reception wasn’t great. Code to the bathrooms, which is appreciated especially as the park is located in a business area and backs up to a residential neighborhood. Asphalt in front of office in extremely bad condition so be careful as you drive through. Nice office. They have plenty of long termers and there are two large receptacles outside the front office for package delivery. The park is easy access from I-55 and sits next to several RV dealers. Great place to stay if you want to have a look at some new trailers or motor homes. Also, a Tanger Outlet is just down the road. Full hook up, 50 amp site was $70, 63.00 with our Good Sam card which we think was a bit pricey. Oddly, there was only one trash receptacle in the entire park.

    Chewalla Lake Recreation Area

    Not my kind of campground

First, it was impossible to find it. Took about two hours. My gps had me get off highway at wrong exit and then I didn’t know which intersection of 7 and 4 the campground was at. There are two. The area is really pretty, but I didn’t stay the night and just gave up my reservation. There was a sign out front saying that payment was required in the folder at the front but I payed online. That already confused me. No gate, no person at the front. Didn’t seem like the safest area to me either. I was driving trying to find my campsite and then I started itching. A mosquito had gotten in in that 30 seconds I had the window down. Campsite was basically dirt with gullies on the side so it was hard to back out. Trash all near table and fire pit. Swarms of bugs were already attacking my car before I could even stop. I didn’t even walk in the bathrooms to see what they were like. Might be good for day use because the trails looked nice from the road.

    Wall Doxey State Park Campground

    Nice stay

Camped 4days/3nights. Really nice wooded sites. Water and Electric on site. Wifi-Tmobile worked fine whole trip. Not a lot of campers while I was here. Quiet and Peaceful. I did not use bathroom facilities. No one available at check-in however I had reserved and paid ahead. Staff drove around regularly. Felt safe here as a solo female tent camper with a dog. Would visit again

    Amazing

From the moment we arrived, we had an amazing experience. The staff greeted us and our pups with smiles, cozies, and treats for the dogs. The site is well taken care of. The laundry and camper kitchen were great amenities. The pool was clean and a great way to cool off. They have a Cafe that serves breakfast and dinner. Dinner is delivered to your site. We will definitely be staying here again.

    Chewalla Lake Recreation Area

    Nice, quiet campground

Campground was great and had hot showers free to both primitive site($7) and hookup site ($20) campers. The lake was gorgeous with a winding, unpaved bike trail that was really fun on mountain bikes! We didn’t try, but I bet fishing would be great here.

The only problem we had was the trash leftover by the previous campers. The fire pit was full of half-burnt garbage. Pick up after yourselves people!

Overall very quiet, peaceful Thursday night.

Guide to Germantown

Beyond the resort-style glamping available at Jellystone Park Memphis, the Germantown area offers diverse camping opportunities within a 45-mile radius. Located in western Tennessee near the Mississippi border, Germantown experiences hot summers with temperatures regularly exceeding 90°F and mild winters, making camping possible year-round with appropriate preparation. The surrounding countryside features rolling hills, lake areas, and mixed hardwood forests typical of the region.

What to do

Fishing at Hernando Point: Located 30 minutes southwest of Germantown, this campground provides direct access to Arkabutla Lake with multiple fishing spots. "Very clean restrooms and shower areas. Site had grill, fire ring, and picnic table. Water and electric hookup," notes Suzi T. from Hernando Point.

Disc golf in wooded setting: Wall Doxey State Park features a complete disc golf course winding through pine forest. "The highlight for us is the disc golf course the winds through the pine forest," shares Brandon R. from Wall Doxey State Park Campground, though he warns about ticks during warm months.

Water recreation options: Many area campgrounds offer swimming, paddling, and boating opportunities. At Serendipity Resort, "There is paddle boarding, kayaking, and a small John boat included with the park. There is also a very nice spacious pool that is included as well. The pool is 11ft deep so there's no issues with using the diving board," according to Nathan B.

What campers like

Yurt camping near Germantown: Chewalla Lake Recreation Area offers yurt accommodations within an hour's drive of Germantown. "The shaded footpaths make walking the trails on a hot day still enjoyable. Quiet, low humidity, and plenty of camp sites to choose from make this location a great place to unplug and relax," reports Josh G. from Chewalla Lake Recreation Area.

Food delivery service: Some campgrounds offer the convenience of prepared food. At Memphis KOA, campers appreciate that "they offer meals delivered to your site! Great meal!" according to Brent C. from Memphis KOA.

Modern bathroom facilities: Clean, well-maintained facilities are consistently mentioned in positive reviews. "Very clean showers, bathroom and laundry. The grounds are impeccable and sites and roads are all paved. Site 21 is nice and private at end of a row and is pull thru," notes LuAnn R. about EZ Daze RV Park.

What you should know

Campsite availability issues: Some campgrounds have limited availability or unclear site designation. At EZ Daze RV Park, one camper noted, "The park is nice and clean. Really quiet the night we stayed. But don't expect much Info or help if checking in after hours... no map or legend showing what spots were available for the night anywhere."

Tick prevention essential: For tent camping or activities in wooded areas, ticks are a concern during warm months. A reviewer mentions the pine forests at Wall Doxey State Park pose a risk: "If you are camping here anytime during the warmer months, be ready to pick ticks off of everyone!"

Variable campground maintenance: Maintenance standards differ significantly between campgrounds. Some visitors to John W Kyle State Park reported, "This park is badly in need of repairs and maintenance. I am not sure if any of the bathrooms are open as I went to 3, that were out of service."

Tips for camping with families

Halloween festivities: Wall Doxey State Park hosts special Halloween events. "Every camp site had wonderful decorations and the kids had such a blast. It was awesome," writes Fred S., making it an excellent fall destination for families with children.

Water parks and activities: Some resorts incorporate extensive water features. At Serendipity Resort, "my kids used the water park. They had a blast on the jumpers and got very wore out. The water park is a $20 charge a piece on the first day and goes down to $10 a day for the rest of your stay."

Playground availability varies: Not all campgrounds prioritize playground equipment. At Dub Patton Campground, a camper mentioned, "The playground could use an update, but it does the job keeping the kids entertained." When seeking specialized yurt camping around Germantown, Tennessee, confirm amenities before booking.

Tips from RVers

Hookup locations: Water and electric connections aren't always conveniently placed. As one visitor to John W Kyle State Park noted, "We did have to buy an extra hose to reach water hookup but other than that, it was good. We did not book a site with sewer hookups, but the dump station was easy to find."

Site leveling challenges: Many campgrounds in the region feature uneven sites. "Most sites are not leveled. Water and electric hookups. We were given space #60 but would not have been able to open slides because of trees so we took another space," reports a camper at Wall Doxey.

Road conditions vary: Some campgrounds have deteriorating internal roads. "Roads inside the campground were atrocious, required dodging tree limbs and holes," reported one RVer about Chewalla Lake Recreation Area, suggesting larger rigs should research carefully before booking.
