Enjoy a night under the stars on the prairie at Hankinson Hills Campground, located three miles northwest of Hankinson, North Dakota. Click here for a map of the Hankinson Hills Campground and Trail. Hankinson Hills Campground has two camping loops. One camping loop, with six campsites, allows campers to have horses and the other camping loop, with nine campsites, is designated for campers without horses. There are a total of 15 campsites, each with a picnic table and fire ring. There is a large picnic shelter for day use and group events, as well as a large group fire ring with benches. The large picnic shelter is free-of-charge and open to anyone on a first-come, first-served basis. While at the campground, you can enjoy the area by hiking the eight-mile loop Hankinson Hills Trail, viewing wildlife, identifying wildflowers, and many other activities. One of the trailheads for Hankinson Hills Trail is located in the campground.

I was hoping to stay here a couple of nights, but the electrics are all locked up and no one around, no phone numbers to call, no way to get them unlocked. No price info. Outhouse is very, very run down. The rest of the campgrounds is stunningly beautiful. Maybe another day in the future we can stay.

This is a small 5 site in town campground. It is connected to a large city park. Each site has 50 - 20 amp service. Each site has water and sewer. Picnic tables are available. No fire pits. Garbage dumpster next to campgrounds. Old and new trees on site. Bathrooms have a great deal to be desired. They are dirty and smell horribly. I've used pit toilets that are cleaner and fresher smelling. Night light next to bathrooms keeps area lit up at night. You need to back into sites from the street. Big rigs can get into 4 of 5 sites without interference from over hanging tree branches. Sites are paved, but they are old and starting to break up. It is located in a nice area.

I was lucky enough to get a spot far under the trees. It was quite private and even though it was labor day weekend, it was quiet and peaceful. Good cell service, I was able to work on Friday via my hot spot. The campground is well maintained and the trail had just been mowed. Unfortunately there are stickers and poor tuck found a number of them. We still had fun.

But they are very nice and friendly and I ended up with the best spot ever as it is right on the water and under the only few trees available. There is actually 3 campgrounds and they surround the lake. Some of the nicest tent spots I've seen. Small Frisbee golf course and not much formal hiking but you can boat on this lake and lots of fishing from the shore. Poor cell service but lots of open sky and the sat service is killing it today.

We might be back to this campground, assuming we don't have cell service where we're going. Calling a campground is a stretch. It's a few parking spots near a small park right inside the town. They're cute. They're nice summer in the shade. And I think milner's a pretty town.

GuideWell maintained campground, has water and multiple vault toilets. There’s a loop for horse camping and a loop for non horse camping. Each site has a fire ring and a nice table, most spaces have trees to provide shade. Verizon works okay, not great but I had a bar or two. Can hear trains running by every so often. Only downside was the abundance of biting flies and mosquitoes.
TravelerThere are gorgeous sites well spaced and lots of shade. Trails to bike ride around. No motorized vehicles allowed so it's quiet. Road in was good gravel. Picnic tables, fire rings and pit toilets. $10 / night. Great find.

Our site: 20. Across from our site was a little trail down to the lake. In the evening we saw tons of fish and an otter. The electric hook up is pretty far from the picnic table/fire ring area. Have a long cord.
Noise: Only 4 sites were occupied out of 30 or so. Completely quiet all evening.
Cell signal: Good (Verizon)
Other: Spectacular sunsets and sunrises. Cell phone pictures do not do it justice.
GuideFt Sisseton is A small, quit, friendly park. We have stayed there a number if times. The staff are always helpful. The campsites are clean, well groomed, and spacious. The backrooms and showers are clean. There is a lot of outdoor advantage in the area. It is worth the trip.
GuideWe reserved a spot with the idea of exploring the area from a nice quiet grass location.
We drove in and we were met by the owner who was very nice.
We then drove to the back where our spot was. At that point we realized the campgrounds was a man camp. Semis, heavy equipment, and discarded appliances were part of the camp area. A van was parted in our spot. The campers were with in feet of each other. No grass or trees once you are passed the office. We did not stop. We just drove out.
If you are working construction it appears to have amenities. If you are looking for a family setting or quiet I would suggest a different campgrounds.
TravelerMy first and not going to be the last campout here. Beautiful sites,trails,very friendly and knowledgeable ranger. Took our 40' through the 1212 trail and was quite concerned I had gotten a little bold with following an unknown gps destination. It worked out but was very close as was also pulling a car hauler. Just for your info i was also traveling east to west. Definitely a pleasant adventure out here in North Dakota. I have to say a little paradise can be found here. I am doing the dispersed camping right in the oak valley next to the 1212. John
Ranger4 grass spots with 30 amp electric picnic table and trash cans. Dump station at the pay box but no water. Found a business that let us fill our tanks. Bathroom across from the sites. Quiet park very nicely kept. Laundry mat across the street. Would stay here again.

Stayed here while moving across the country because there wasn’t much else available. It was a nice surprise that it was as good as it is. Well kept up and reasonable prices but man was it tight! Very crowded and the owner was one of those folks who wants to help you back in whether you need help or not. There is a big gas station just out of town near the highway so it’s a convenient place to refuel and recharge for another day.
RangerWe spent a night there in the fall. It is well off the main road but the dirt road is passable with any rig. The sites are varied, well kept and some will fit larger rigs. It is typical forest service dry camping. There is a hiking trail that circles this small grassland about 5 or 6 miles long.
What is unique about this place is that is an original remnant of the oak/grass prairies that used to cover extensive areas where the forest met the plains. There is grazing in the grassland but it is very quiet and no light pollution. Cell service was actually pretty good.
GuideNice little stop on your travels up or down I29. Located in a cute little town, with a multitude of spots that can accommodate even the largest RV. Full hookups available, even when it's below freezing. The office has propain, ice, and some food supplies available. Bathrooms & laundry. The spots are mostly side by side, with grass patches between though there are bigger campsites available. A gas station with multiple fast food options is located just down the highway. Would definitely stay here again when traveling through.

Have spent a great deal of time at this park. Beautiful sunsets, lots of wildlife and nice trails. Fishing is free from the park boundaries with lots of shoreline. Great access to the lake if you have a boat. Only 7 miles into town for forgotten supplies or a specialty coffee. Con, flies can be an issue and the wind has an open shot from the south.
GuideOldest son and I hiked into the east side of the Sheyenne Grasslands on the NCT. We had parked at the Ekre trailhead, deciding to hike past the Ekre campsite. We set up our tent as soon as we got into the boundaries as a thunder and lightening storm began. The next morning we hiked the 3 miles into Jorgens Hallow, the actual campground on the Grassland. There we refilled our water, used the vault toilets and continued on our way on the NCT across the grasslands.
