Best RV Parks & Resorts near Windsor, SC

Several RV campgrounds operate near Windsor, offering full hookup sites for various rig sizes. Barnyard RV Park provides water, electric, and sewer connections with large pull-through sites accommodating big rigs on dirt surfaces. "Located behind the flea market, dirt sites have lots of water flowing through during rainy weather," a visitor noted about Barnyard's terrain conditions. Sandy Oak RV Park features fire rings and picnic tables at each site with full hookups, while Big Rig Friendly RV Resort lives up to its name with spacious, level sites that can accommodate larger motorhomes. Aiken RV Park, located about 25 miles from Windsor, offers sewer hookups and picnic tables but prohibits campfires, making it suitable for overnight stops rather than extended stays.

Most RV parks in the region remain open year-round, though seasonal considerations affect the camping experience. During heavy rain periods, drainage can be an issue at some locations with gravel or dirt pads. Cell service varies considerably between parks, with most offering at least basic coverage for major carriers. Dump stations are available at most locations, though a review mentioned that at certain parks "the dump station is inconvenient to get out of when leaving the campground." Pet policies generally allow dogs with standard restrictions, and nearby towns like Aiken provide shopping options for supplies. Reservations are recommended, especially during spring and fall when snowbirds pass through the area en route to Florida.

    Beautiful campsites

This campground has magnificent views, spacious sites, picnic tables, firepits, power (30 and 50 amp) and water hookups, dump station, bathrooms, and groomed swimming area.

The site (21) was very easy to pull through and had a wonderful view of the lake. I had to try to see my neighbors at the next site because the foliage separated the sites well. I saw a grounds person actively maintaining the empty sites which explains how well kept this campground is. The access roads are well kept.

    Woodsmoke Family Campground

    Overnight Stop

Ok for overnight stop but wouldn't be a travel destination. Most sites seem to be long term or permanent sites. Very close to neighbor site, with fire pit being extremely close. Water, Sewer, Power, WiFi

    Hamilton Branch State Park Campground

Great spacious site on the water, lots of privacy

We arrived at last light, and I am glad that we had daylight while we backed in. Lovely site, spacious. Sites 98 & 99  T off the connector road. Layout it such that your RV is parallel to the road, overlooking the water which is 80- 100 feet away. Your neighbors are a fair distance away, but your head and tail of the RV points to them- so once inside you're not even aware of them. We are 30 foot fifth wheel with F250, and i imagine the back-in would have been more challenging if 99 was occupied.  Nice family oriented park. Water and electric all good, dump station on way out.

Did not use facilities, but apparently showers and toilets are a little drive away.

Wood: We drove out of the park, turned left and found an honor-system wood kiosk on parallel road - just over the railroad tracks. $5 for a small bundle, but it was worth it to us.

    Leveling was not an issue.

Hosts keep site nice and clean,

Data: Visible worked great (25 mbs up & down, so no need to break out hotspots, Starlink etc

    Sweetwater Lake Campground

    I love this place!

Sweetwater Lake Campground is a small RV campground. There is electric and water hookup and a dump station. Lots are decent size and fairly level on grass or gravel. The owners are very nice and available, if needed. Reservations are not taken, so you pull in and pick your spot. Drop your money in a lock box. The property has a nice size lake and all spots face it. There are fire pits and hammocks. The best and most fun part about this campground are the rescue donkeys. Their shelter and grazing area is situated directly behind the camper row. You can hear them bray and they will come to you and let you pet them, although, you should use caution as they warn you that donkeys bite. This is a very nice, quiet campground surrounded by private property of fields and lake. I really enjoyed our stay here!

    Aiken State Park Campground

    Amazing Find!

We stayed over on our way to Charleston, SC. We booked it online. We had no hookeups, but water and a dump station is available. There are hiking trails, canoeing, and fishing. The ranger was super friendly and they are pet friendly. We had to switch sites when we arrived due to a space issue. We have a 32’ RV and the site stated a max of 35’ but there was a tent pad that would have interfered with us being level. We were allowed to switch with no issues.

Another great COE campground We love this place

This time we’re in site 7-first time in this loop. Backing in took a few minutes, not the simplest but achievable for our 30 ft fifth wheel. Campsite excellent- electric & water, plenty big site-fire ring and picnic table

Also love trail from here to dam wall - did a bit of bush trail cycling. Awesome

    Heritage RV Park

Nice Sites for a Good Price

This is a clean well-cared RV park that is a nice place to stay but a bit of a no- frills park. We were busy exploring the town so it was really just a place to park our RV and the fact that there were not many amenities was fine with us. The park is close to I-20 and I-520 so there is easy on/off and it is a great place for an overnight if you are just traveling thru. At $35/night with full hook-up, wifi, paved patio this was a pretty good bargain.

The person who checked us in was nice and helpful and the process was speedy. All the roads are wide and easy to navigate. The sites are level and we had no problem fitting our RV and tow car in a back-in site. Our driveway was gravel/sand but the patio was paved with a picnic table. There is no cable but there is a clear view to the sky if you have satellite and we were able to receive numerous television channels with our antenna. Note that there are no restrooms or laundry. As with many RV parks, the sites are close together and since this is a fairly new park there are no large shade trees. Note: that there are no fire pits and campfires allowed.

Numerous stores and restaurants are nearby and there is lots to do in Augusta.  There is a nice walking path by the canal downtown where you may see some urban wildlife. Would highly recommend visiting the U.S Army Signal Corps Museum at Fort Gordon and the Augusta Canal National Heritage Area Interpretive Center downtown. We also did a narrated canal boat tour which was very informative and entertaining. Both were very interesting!

    Aiken State Park Campground

    Canoeing Getaway

It is a very small campground. Narrow winding dirt road to small campsites. Bathhouse in the center. Check out the site pictures on their website, they are accurate. We only have a 17 foot camper and it still felt small. We stayed on site 16 which was nice and quiet. Site 18 would have been easier to back in to with the same amount of privacy. We got there early and were able to go right to our site. There were only 4 other campers there and the hosts. The bathhouse was older and could have been cleaner but it was okay. Most importantly it was warm. Our first night it got down to 27 and the water at the hose bib froze but once the sun came up it was fine. Less than 30 minutes to downtown Aiken. We loved the town and it was very pet friendly. Hopelands Gardens was beautiful, free and pet friendly. Had some good beer at Aiken Brewing Company and enjoyed all the shops downtown. We did go into Augusta and that was another 30 minutes from downtown Aiken. We will definitely go back in the warmer months to see some steeplechase horse racing and training, canoe and kayak the Edisto River and go hiking in Hitchcock Woods. There are quite a few museums we did not get to that would be nice to visit as well. I would definitely go back.

Guide to Windsor

Windsor, South Carolina camping areas feature a mix of wooded and open terrain with elevations ranging from 300 to 500 feet above sea level. The region experiences hot, humid summers with temperatures often exceeding 90°F and mild winters, making year-round camping viable. Most campgrounds in the area sit within 30 miles of Windsor, requiring short drives on secondary roads to access camping facilities.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Black Pearl Farms offers access to the Edisto River for anglers, with primitive camping spots in a wooded setting behind the farm. "Beautiful, well maintained site beside the Edisto river, just as advertised! Private, peaceful, just what we were looking for," notes camper John B.

Visit local flea markets: When staying at Barnyard RV Park, explore the large flea market located next door. One camper mentioned, "They have a large flea market next door," while another visitor appreciated the "Great location! Far enough away from base but close enough to everything."

Military attractions: Fort Jackson is accessible from several Windsor area campgrounds. "Congaree National Park Fort Jackson are nearby. Columbia is a neighboring city," reports Scott M. about the convenient location for exploring military and natural attractions.

What campers like

Clean facilities: Multiple campgrounds maintain well-kept shower and bathroom facilities. At Sandy Oak RV Park, visitors appreciate "Shower, bathroom and laundry. Wow!" The park also features a swimming pond and paddle boats for guest use.

Level sites: Many Windsor area RV parks provide flat camping spots suitable for easy setup. At Heritage RV Park, "The sites are level and we had no problem fitting our RV and tow car in a back-in site. Our driveway was gravel/sand but the patio was paved with a picnic table."

Quiet atmosphere: Several campgrounds offer peaceful environments away from traffic noise. One camper at Carolina Hill Mobile Home and RV Park stated, "Zero road noise, large sites, shade trees and laundry room... If you walk around the park four times, you have walked a mile."

What you should know

Weather considerations: Heavy rainfall can affect camping conditions at several rv sites near Windsor, South Carolina. One reviewer noted about certain locations: "Dirt sites: lots of water flowing through during rainy weather."

Security features: Many Windsor area campgrounds have implemented safety measures. A camper at Sandy Oak RV Park commented, "Couldn't ask for better security," making it suitable for travelers concerned about safety.

Permanent residents: Some RV parks near Windsor have long-term occupants. At Pine Acres Campground, a visitor observed, "Many full time renters. My neighbors were wonderful people... This is a great spot for someone here working and needs a place. Not really a family vacation spot."

Tips for camping with families

Look for recreational amenities: Select campgrounds with activities for children. "We will definitely be back to take advantage of the swimming pond, paddle boats, fishing & playground!" reported one family at Sandy Oak RV Park.

Consider site surfaces: Sandy or dirt surfaces can be challenging with children. One camper at Heritage RV Park noted, "The pads for the back in smaller campers were sandy with a concrete pad next to it. The sand was impossible to keep out of the RV and we continuously had to sweep."

Check for playground access: Pointes West Army Resort offers family-friendly amenities near Windsor. A visitor observed, "Very clean facility, awesome cope course," providing activities to keep children engaged.

Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: When camping at rv sites near Windsor, South Carolina, choose spots away from main roads when possible. At Aiken RV Park, one RVer advised, "Since we booked so late our site was near the road. I would choose the sites farther from the road next time as traffic is pretty high in this road."

Reservation timing: Last-minute bookings can still work at some campgrounds. A camper at Big Rig Friendly RV Resort shared, "We found this campground while traveling through Columbia SC and made a late evening reservation. We were able to reserve online and even pick our camping spot."

Road condition awareness: Be prepared for varying road conditions at some campgrounds. A visitor to Pine Acres noted, "Fixing VERY large potholes seems like something you could easily keep up with," suggesting drivers should be cautious when entering certain facilities.
