Best RV Parks & Resorts near Westminster, SC

Several RV parks accommodate motorhomes near Westminster, South Carolina along Lake Hartwell and the surrounding area. Thousand Trails Carolina Landing offers full hookup sites with 50-amp service year-round in Fair Play. Crooked Creek RV Park & Marina provides water and electric hookups with sewer connections, though sites are positioned close together with limited shade. The Point at Lake Hartwell has electric hookups but no sewer connections, making it suitable for shorter stays. Tiger Stripes RV Campsites features just three sites but offers full hookups including 50-amp service. "Campsites are often uneven with a lot of tree roots running throughout. It does require consideration before parking your trailer or RV."

Access to many local RV parks involves navigating mountain roads that may present challenges for larger motorhomes. At Tugaloo State Park, visitors should avoid County Road 84 when approaching with RVs, as one reviewer warned about "an impassable washed out county road." Most RV parks in the region remain open year-round, though amenities like swimming pools typically close during winter months. Dump stations are available at Thousand Trails Carolina Landing, Currahee RV Park, and Toccoa RV Park for waste disposal. Cell service varies throughout the region with stronger signals reported at Willow Valley RV Resort for both Verizon and AT&T customers. Many parks enforce quiet hours beginning at 10 PM, with security gates that lock overnight at facilities like South Cove County Park.

    Mile Creek County Park

My Favorite Campground in South Carolina

Having lived in South Carolina most my life, I haven't seen it all.. but have seen a lot of it. Mile Creek Campground is a string of 3 islands connect by narrow straights and surrounded by water. It's hard to get a spot here without great views of Lake Keowee and the Blueridge Mountains.

The spaces a are a mix of full concrete pads or gravel sites. We've stayed in several sites and while some are very close together (that RV park feeling), there are many which have lots of breathing room, and things feel more natural. The pics in this review are for site 51, which is on the "3rd island," which is the furthest out and offers the best views. This is a very level concrete spot and we only had to use the electric tongue jack on our trailer to level front to back. Got set up in under 5 minutes.

There is one oddity to some of the concrete sites. Because it's concrete, your fire pit is off to the side. And since most of the sites are raised, your fire pit may be level with the concrete pad, but you can't sit next to it as there is too much slope.

It's a county park and is well maintained. Bath houses are clean. With it having a public day use area with a nice boat dock, you can expect almost every morning @ 6am to hear the diehard fishing folks blasting out of the boat launch area.

We have Verizon and our cell signal has always been 4 to 5 bars on the outside third island.

All sites have 30amp electric and water hookups. Dump station at the front of campground entrance up on a hill. BE AWARE, pulling into the dump station is easy, but the steeper exit will have longer RV's and Trailers dragging their bag end on the asphalt.

We've always felt safe and relaxed here. And though we prefer more dispersed camping with less neighbors, this is still one of the best and most affordable ($25 in off season) places in South Carolina to camp.

We rarely give 5-stars, but due to the awesome views,  trees between the sites and being well wooded & surrounded by water... it really is a very nice place.

From what I can tell, all but two sites are back in. We had no problem backing in our 23'8" (total length) camper in.

Pisgah National Forest Davidson River Campground

Hiking, Waterfalls, Fishing, Biking + Even Ice Cream

    OVERVIEW

    • No Water/Sewer Hookups on Any Site

    • Electric Hookup Sites Limited

    • WiFi/Cell Signal Limited[Booster Recommended]

    • Kid Friendly

    • Dog Friendly

    • Bath Facilities On-site

    LOCATION

The location is incredible! We enjoyed the accessibility of hiking, biking and fishing right from the campground. ART LOEB trailhead is right outside the campground entrance and is excellent for hiking and mountain biking. Several loops and even sites provide access to the river for fishing. Just outside the campground are endless trails and several beautiful waterfalls that can be accessed within a 5-15 min car ride. Convenient to a few restaurants, grocery stores and even a Walmart (which is slightly dodgy so be warned).

    SITE

014 WOAK site is an RV site. It’s spacious and very private. We loved how much room we had to spread out and entertain as we were traveling with several other camping families. Our site was the go to spot! Backing in wasn’t difficult. It was convenient that the pull through site across from us was vacant, this made backing in super easy. There are no hookups on this site. So be sure you have a generator! One bonus on the location of this site is the water access just feet away. We needed to fill up and had forgot to do so when we pulled in to the campground. What a relief to see a water access just steps from the campsite! The only downside was that generator hours are very limited. If you are traveling during warmer months or must have AC, this is not the site for you. We felt that the tree coverage really provided us protection from the heat and did very well without AC in early August.

    ACTIVITIES

    • Slide Rock is a natural water slide that is fun for the whole family. Yes… it’s COLD and honestly worth every moment of chilly suffering.

    • Hiking is abundant and all levels are accessible within minutes to a few miles of the campsite. Our favorites are: Looking Glass Falls (steps going down make this a breeze), Moore Cove Falls is a MUST and an easy trail that leads to the perfect waterfall for a good photo, Looking Glass Rock is a moderate to difficult hike and worth it. Looking Glass Rock is a long hike so be prepared to go early and bring a rain jacket.

    • Fishing right within the campground makes it perfect for an early morning or late afternoon activity. The hatchery is nearby and offers some wonderful opportunities to catch and release. Be sure to look in to a guided tour for a hands on experience filled with lots of educational info on local fish.

    • Biking is a top activity for lots of overnight and day campers. The Art Loeb Trail provides endless miles that proves fun for the whole family.

    • Ice Cream at Dolly’s should make your list if you love a refreshing treat. This iconic little stop if right by the entrance to the Pisgah Forest and just around the corner from the campground. Also a great spot for a cell signal!

    • Breweries aren’t hard to find nearby. Small microbreweries are within a few minutes and Sierra Nevada Brewery is 25 minutes away.

    DON’T FORGET

    • Generator (in case your site doesn’t offer electric)
    • Headlamps and Flashlights (tree coverage is heavy so it gets darker faster)
    • Fishing Poles
    • Rain Jackets (it rained almost daily in the afternoon)
    • Cordless Leaf Blower (for removing leaves from slide outs)

    Springfield - Hartwell Lake

Nice well kept Corp of Engineers campground

This is a typical Corp of Engineers campground, well kept with a variety of pull through and back-in sites.  Sites are 50/30/20 electric with water, picnic table and fire ring.  Many sites have a tent pad, are very level packed gravel/sand and well situated with very few having very close neighbors.  Shade is at a premium on some sites due to cutting of pine trees a couple of years ago but almost all are waterfront with an excellent view.  Some sites have direct access to the water allowing boats right at the site and swimming.  The swimming beach is very nice and well maintained as are the playgrounds.  Three bath houses are convenient to all loops, well maintained and clean.  Cell service is very good as is over the air TV with numerous channels available.  The dump station is easy in/out.  Sites 10 through 40 have awesome views of Lake Hartwell.

    Mile Creek County Park

    A hidden gem!

This campground sets on a peninsula into Lake Keowee and offers gorgeous views of the lake and mountains in the distance.  While possible for big rigs, it can be a challenge in some areas.  The sites are mostly in the 30-35 foot range and most are back in, fairly level and offer 30/20 electric and water.  Picnic tables and fire rings are on the sites, but unfortunately most of the sites do not offer a lot of usable area around the site.  A few sites near the boat ramp are unparalleled in their view of the lake and mountains and reservation planning is a must if these are wanted.  Being far out in the country the cell service isn't so good and according to where you are even over the air TV is spotty.  A nice boat ramp and swimming beach are available, as are bath houses centrally located.  The camp store was closed due to Covid when we stayed, but there are kayak and canoe rentals.  The dump station was easily accessed and very clean. There are cabins, but we did not look at them.  All in all, this is a very nice campground for families or couples wanting a getaway.

    Tallulah Gorge State Park Campground

    Incredible place to hike

Took my boys after studying the 7 Natural wonders of GA and this gorge is one of them. Did not disappoint. The hike to the bottom is not for the faint of heart. And the steps back up will challenge the most fit among us. But the views and experience is well worth the pain. Campground while being big rig friendly is a little tight ( we have a 42ft motorhome). If your large try to book sites 34 or 35 pull through. No sewers, but easy to use dump station next to the exit. Make sure you add this stop to your Must see list

Guide to Westminster

Lake Hartwell provides the backdrop for rv campgrounds Westminster, South Carolina and surrounding areas. Located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, the region typically sees mild winters with average low temperatures in the 30s and warm summers with highs in the upper 80s. The Westminster area includes several campgrounds within 20 miles of town, many with lake access for water recreation opportunities during the peak summer season.

What to do

Hiking nearby: Currahee Mountain offers a challenging hiking option just a short drive from Currahee RV Park. "This is a nice, clean, conveniently located, well maintained campground. It's near enough to Toccoa for the restaurants and shops and the museum but it's far enough off the track so that there's no traffic noise or other annoyances," reports one visitor who spent over a week exploring the area.

Lake activities: Access Lake Hartwell at The Point at Lake Hartwell where water recreation options include swimming and boating. "Quiet. On the lake. Diamond in the rough...though more of a piece of coal than a diamond but that is okay, not into fancy and all the amenities, we camp to get away from society," notes one camper who appreciated the low-key atmosphere.

Local attractions: Visit downtown Franklin, NC while staying at Riverbend RV Park-Campground. "Staying here you will be super close to some amazing hiking and also the many activities on the Cullasaja river. You can easily go out for the night in Franklin and explore the rest of the beautiful area," shares a camper who enjoyed the convenience of this location.

What campers like

Heated amenities: During cooler months, Willow Valley RV Resort offers comfort with "one being that the pool is heated!" according to a recent visitor. The campground also features "super fast WiFi so didn't need our tailgater and just used the smart TVs. Bath houses are clean."

Holiday activities: Thousand Trails Carolina Landing organizes special events during holidays. "We visited over the 4th of July weekend and they had all sorts of activities going on. Bingo, parade, fireworks, hotdogs and more!" reports one satisfied guest who appreciated the scheduled programming.

Peace and quiet: Many Westminster area campgrounds offer a break from busy environments. At Willow Valley RV Resort, campers note the "Very reasonable rates. Best owners you could possibly ask for. Great restrooms and laundry room. Best internet anywhere around." The campground maintains a balance between amenities and natural setting.

What you should know

Cell service quality: Mobile connectivity varies significantly between campgrounds. Willow Valley RV Resort gets high marks for communications with "great cell phones, signal Verizon and AT&T works really good," helpful for campers who need to stay connected.

Site leveling challenges: Be prepared for uneven terrain at some locations. At Thousand Trails Carolina Landing, one camper reported: "Our site- A5- was super unlevel. I felt unsafe with our fifth wheel's two left tires up in the air after auto-leveling. That was a first for us, and hope we never have to do that again."

Reservation systems: Most campgrounds in the Westminster area require advance bookings, with Thousand Trails parks operating on a first-come, first-serve basis for site selection. "We arrived a little late to the RV park, and the office closes at 5:00. I find that strange since it was in the middle of the summer. The whole check-in process is a little strange for this RV park."

Tips for camping with families

Child-friendly amenities: Crooked Creek RV Park & Marina offers activities for children including "pool and playground is great. We will return during the summer months for sure. A golf cart is helpful to have, or bikes," reports a repeat visitor.

Activity options: Look for campgrounds with built-in entertainment. Willow Valley RV Resort features "many activities to keep family members occupied, including a playground, basketball, corn hole, soccer nets, community fire pit (you can rent a private firepit), and in-season, a pool."

Transportation around campgrounds: Many Westminster area campgrounds are spread out. "The campground is nice. If you have a boat, it's convenient to be able to dock your boat at the on site marina. The store is handy for snacks or last minute necessities. Our son likes to get ice cream there," notes a family who appreciates the on-site conveniences at Crooked Creek RV Park.

Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: At Thousand Trails Carolina Landing, "The lower section of the park is tight and can be difficult to get into a site, roads are very narrow." RVers recommend requesting sites in less congested areas if traveling with larger rigs.

Hookup variations: Check which utilities are available at specific sites. One RVer at The Point at Lake Hartwell reported that despite expectations, "When we turned in I immediately noticed the new & improved changes to the campground! They have a new name/new owners & they have done some major improvements & you can tell they care about the property!"

Arrival timing: Plan to arrive during office hours. One RVer warns about Thousand Trails Carolina Landing: "We arrived a little late to the RV park, and the office closes at 5:00. I find that strange since it was in the middle of the summer." This timing can affect check-in procedures at many Westminster area rv campgrounds.
