Best RV Parks & Resorts near Burgettstown, PA

Several RV campgrounds are available within 30 miles of Burgettstown, Pennsylvania. Washington-Pittsburgh SW KOA operates from March through December with full hookup sites for RVs. Raccoon Creek State Park Campground accommodates RVs year-round with electric hookups and big rig access, though most sites lack sewer connections. "The sites are mainly gravel pads with the exception being the asphalt handicapped spots," noted a camper at Tomlinson Run State Park, which provides 30-amp service at most sites with a few 50-amp options. Mountain Top Campground features spacious sites on gravel pads with rim sites offering valley views, but only provides electric and water connections with grey water disposal.

Navigating to some campgrounds requires careful planning as several are situated on steep terrain or winding roads. The Washington-Pittsburgh SW KOA provides full hookup sites with 50-amp service and accommodations for larger motorhomes, while dump stations are available at Tomlinson Run and Raccoon Creek State Parks. Many RV sites throughout the region have fire rings and picnic tables, though site dimensions vary considerably between parks. Cell service can be limited at some locations, particularly at Ryerson Station State Park where Verizon coverage is reportedly non-existent. Pet policies differ between campgrounds, with most allowing leashed pets in designated camping areas. Seasonal availability should be verified before travel, as several parks have limited operations during winter months.

    Tomlinson Run State Park Campground

    Nice little State Park

Tomlinson Run is a small state park situated in the northern panhandle of West Virginia nestled between eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania. Plenty of things to do there including but not limited to…. Mini golf, hiking trails, biking, swimming, fishing, paddle boats, parks for the kids, and of course the camping. The campsites here are mainly gravel pads with the exception being the asphalt handicapped spots (2). Most spots are 30 amp with a few 50 amp (new for 2021). The park also has a few primitive spots available and some yurts and cabins to rent. I have a 38’ fifth wheel and the spots are tight for it (even the couple pull thru). Campground facilities are clean but dated. They state new facilities are coming soon. The campground is at the top of a hill and the spots are wooded and shaded. I would consider the camping to be spaced generously (room to stretch out). They have a small camp store and information available. A breakfast is available during peak season for a small fee. They do have water and a dump station available (free for campers to use).

    Bear Run Campground

    Loads to do...!

This campground is deceptively big! The nightly RV sites are close to the park entrance and are relatively flat. The campground hosts themed events, game nights and arts& crafts. There is a swimming pool and playground for the kids. It also has a small café that sells baked goods and coffee. On Saturdays they sell amazing Armish Donuts!

Further into the campground the sites turn to more permanent sites. Further up the hill are more cottages and camping. This campground is steep in parts and too large to walk efficiently. There is a fenced dog run area and a beautiful lake. All sites have fire rings. There is an onsite laundry, WIFI, onsite dump station and propane refill station.

You can also buy ice and firewood. The campground is gated. Lots to do at the campground and lots to do in the surrounding area. They welcome all furry friends!

    Atwood Lake Park Campground

    Incredible!

The Atwood Lake Campground is a true gem in a beautiful area of eastern Ohio! We’ve visited the Atwood region many times in the past but have never camped - but after this visit we’ll be back for sure. The campground is relatively new, with the campground area being completely revamped beginning in 2017. There are two overnight camping areas with seasonal sites in a separate section; we stayed in “Camp H” which is the newest area. There is a huge bathhouse with two sets of men’s and women’s restrooms and shower facilities along with a very nice laundry area. Adjoining the bathhouse area is a beautiful pavilion and children’s playground - all of which overlooks Atwood Lake. The campsites are nicely spaced though if you’re in the inner loop as we were or even some of the outer ring sites you’ll be looking right into your neighbor’s site. All sites are FHU on level concrete pads and include a metal picnic table and fire ring. If needed there are two very well equipped dump stations if you prefer to use them instead of the sewer connection at your site. Many sites are on cul de sacs directly on the lake with docks and fishing areas adjacent to the campsites. Lots of hiking trails, paved bike paths, a swimming beach and restaurant are in a nearby area. We loved the campground and will return soon!

    Raccoon Creek State Park Campground

    Raccoon Creek Camping

This is a large state park offering electric only sites

The sites are set amounts the forest and there are several loops to choose from. Loop F is pet friendly. All sites are within walking distance to amenities

Amenities are quite run down but functional

Wildlife is beautiful and its a short ~10min drive to the beach area of Raccoon Creek lake.

Two (2) dump station spots and fresh water taps location throughout the park

NOTE: Many sites are not level, you will require blocks/timber to level out campers. Tent campers should choose their site using the photos on the state park site.

All sites have a paved car space.

    Tomlinson Run State Park Campground

    Very wooded campground

General: 50-site (all but six with electric hookups) campground plus two yurts and three cabins. Two sites are handicap accessible.

Site Quality: The sites have gravel pads (except the handicap-accessible ones which were paved). The sites were completely covered with leaves when we were there which made it challenging to determine where the actual (narrow) pad was. Sites appeared to be level. A fire ring and wooden picnic table complete the site.

Bathhouse: A little dated but clean. Two of the stall doors did not latch properly. Didn't use the shower so cannot comment but there was a sign indicating it took a while for the water to warm up.

Activities/Amenities: There is a small camper store, laundry, and a playground. In season, there is lake swimming and a boat dock. There is a fishing area, mini-golf and disc golf, and several short hiking trails. Unfortunately, since we arrived late afternoon and had to depart early the following day (and were camping off-season), we could not take advantage of any of these things. What we lose in activities, we gain in a quieter camping experience with fewer crowds, which is generally preferable for us!

    Washington-Pittsburgh SW KOA

    KOA - Monthly Stay

Camping in a 33 ft travel trailer with slides. Verizon service is great. Wifi in extended parking doesn’t work well. The staff are helpful and polite. We are in the extended stay part of the campground which is quiet and slightly more secluded than the other spots.

    Big Arbs Campground

    Lots of Hills

The whole campground is on a hill. Most if not all seasonal sites. The area we stayed was mostly the party crowd and didnt seem to respect quiet time. There is a long list of rules most do not follow. And ownership takes no responsibility. We had to ask several times for a picnic table and fire ring.

    Bear Run Campground

    Cute and Clean

Bear Run offers pull through sites for larger RV's. The pool is smaller but still enjoyable.  Tons of activities always planned on the weekend.  Family Friendly Friendly!

Guide to Burgettstown

Camping options near Burgettstown, Pennsylvania range from full-service RV parks to rustic state park campgrounds. The area sits among rolling hills with elevations between 950-1,200 feet, creating varied terrain for camping. Summer temperatures typically average 70-85°F while spring and fall can drop to 40-60°F with increased precipitation.

What to do

Swimming and water recreation: Pine Cove Beach Club RV Resort features a large swimming pool with a concession stand. "The pool & concession stand, beautifully maintained lawns and gravel campsites, modern hookups, good shower/laundry facilities, nice fire rings with built in grills, trash pickup service," notes Heath T. about this Pine Cove Beach Club RV Resort.

Fishing and boating: Austin Lake RV Park offers multiple ponds and a lake for water activities. "Has a playground in every section, well equipped cabins, a swimming area with inflatables, kayak, pontoon, and paddle boarding rentals, a bumper boat area, small lake where you can fish and boat," according to Linda R. at Austin Lake RV Park & Cabins.

Hiking trails: Raccoon Creek State Park provides over 40 miles of hiking paths through wooded terrain. One camper mentioned, "We did the Palomino Loop. It also was quite interesting getting to the trail. Some nice snow covered back roads." Trails are maintained year-round with varying difficulty levels suitable for different hiking abilities.

What campers like

Privacy and spacious sites: Tomlinson Run State Park Campground offers secluded tent sites. "Most of the sites were pretty private and ours was probably the most private and had a lot of space since we were on the very end of the road / cul-de-sac," shares Dusty R. about their experience at Tomlinson Run State Park Campground.

Clean facilities: Campers frequently mention well-maintained bathhouses and grounds. "Clean bathrooms and showers" is commonly noted across multiple rv parks Burgettstown, Pennsylvania visitors frequent. "Nice simple, small campground sites are for everyone, RV to tent, older bathhouses but clean," reports David A. about Tomlinson Run.

Lake access: Zion Retreat & RV Park features ponds for fishing and wildlife viewing. "The views are amazing! If you love peace and quiet this is the place for you. All sites are amongst the very tall trees. There are several ponds around the campground for fishing and bird watching," writes Kathryn P. about Zion Retreat & RV Park.

What you should know

Site terrain varies considerably: Many campgrounds feature uneven sites on hillsides. At Washington-Pittsburgh SW KOA, several reviewers noted challenging terrain: "Very steep narrow roads to access campground and sites..sites not level and noisy, next to highway," warns Chris H. Raccoon Creek State Park has similar challenges with terrain.

Highway noise: Several Burgettstown area RV parks sit close to highways, affecting noise levels. "It can be a bit noisy though as it is right next to the highway," notes Sara A. about Washington-Pittsburgh SW KOA.

Cell service limitations: Reception varies widely between campgrounds. "No phone service at all, no matter the carrier," reports Mathew H. about Austin Lake RV Park. This can affect planning if you need to stay connected during your stay.

Steep access roads: Many campgrounds require navigating challenging hills. "The road dead-ends into the campground and it is all downhill getting there. Take your time and all will be just fine," advises Mathew H. about Austin Lake.

Tips for camping with families

Look for campgrounds with multiple playgrounds: Austin Lake provides numerous recreational facilities. "TONS of stuff to do here. Very big campground, all kinds of sites. Reserve early for Holiday Weekends as it fills up. Lots of seasonals. Inflatable slides and such in the lake, hiking trials, playgrounds, all sorts of stuff," recommends Mathew H.

Consider water activities for hot days: Several campgrounds offer water features beyond swimming pools. "Has a playground in every section, well equipped cabins, a swimming area with inflatables, kayak, pontoon, and paddle boarding rentals, a bumper boat area," mentions Linda R. about Austin Lake.

Check for extra activity costs: Some campgrounds charge additional fees beyond camping rates. "Austin lake offers plenty of fun with the lake. Kayaking, inflatables, beach, but almost anything you want to do will cost you an additional charge. Need to use the bathhouse? Better take quarters....bc the showers are coin opperated," warns Terra B. about Raccoon Creek State Park Campground.

Tips from RVers

Verify site dimensions and leveling: Many RV sites near Burgettstown require adjustment. "A dozen or so of the sites are not level, not only that but they are narrow and where you sit is a slope making it very uncomfortable," notes Kevin D. about Washington-Pittsburgh SW KOA.

Check road conditions to campground: Steep grades challenge larger rigs at several parks. "Was a great camp, clean and well kept. Had a great spot by the lake right off the back of our camper. Make sure you have a good tow vehicle as there is a steep hill at the entrance/exit of the camp ground," advises Robert T. about The Blue Canoe RV Resort.

Consider seasonal closures: Operating dates vary significantly among Burgettstown area RV parks. Some like Pine Cove Beach Club operate year-round, while others like Tomlinson Run State Park close from November through March.
