Raccoon Creek State Park Campground offers RV sites with 30- and 50-amp electric hookups though many sites have leveling challenges. Located 30 miles west of Beaver, the campground accommodates smaller to mid-sized RVs with limited big rig access. "Some sites not level enough for rv or trailer, does not say on website, one site we had to raise 5ft high," noted one camper who received a refund after relocating. Bear Run Campground provides 300 campsites with full hookups including water, sewer, and 30/50-amp electric service, with pull-through options for larger motorhomes. RV Village Camping Resort near Mercer maintains seasonal operations from April through October with full hookup capabilities and big rig friendly sites.

Several RV parks in the region require cautious navigation on narrow access roads. Austin Lake RV Park features full hookups but visitors should note the steep, downhill entrance road that may challenge larger rigs. "Take your time and all will be just fine. Our rig is 39' & 16K. 4wd low helps, not cause you need 4wd just for the lower gears," advised one experienced RVer. Most campgrounds provide sanitary dump stations, though availability of on-site propane filling varies considerably. Cell service ranges from excellent at Mountain Top Campground to non-existent at Austin Lake. Pet-friendly policies are standard at most locations, with Raccoon Creek State Park limiting pets to specific camping loops. Winter camping options are limited, with Pine Cove Beach Club RV Resort being one of few year-round facilities.

      Tomlinson Run State Park Campground

      Nice little State Park

Tomlinson Run is a small state park situated in the northern panhandle of West Virginia nestled between eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania. Plenty of things to do there including but not limited to…. Mini golf, hiking trails, biking, swimming, fishing, paddle boats, parks for the kids, and of course the camping. The campsites here are mainly gravel pads with the exception being the asphalt handicapped spots (2). Most spots are 30 amp with a few 50 amp (new for 2021). The park also has a few primitive spots available and some yurts and cabins to rent. I have a 38’ fifth wheel and the spots are tight for it (even the couple pull thru). Campground facilities are clean but dated. They state new facilities are coming soon. The campground is at the top of a hill and the spots are wooded and shaded. I would consider the camping to be spaced generously (room to stretch out). They have a small camp store and information available. A breakfast is available during peak season for a small fee. They do have water and a dump station available (free for campers to use).

      Bear Run Campground

      Loads to do...!

This campground is deceptively big! The nightly RV sites are close to the park entrance and are relatively flat. The campground hosts themed events, game nights and arts& crafts. There is a swimming pool and playground for the kids. It also has a small café that sells baked goods and coffee. On Saturdays they sell amazing Armish Donuts!

Further into the campground the sites turn to more permanent sites. Further up the hill are more cottages and camping. This campground is steep in parts and too large to walk efficiently. There is a fenced dog run area and a beautiful lake. All sites have fire rings. There is an onsite laundry, WIFI, onsite dump station and propane refill station.

You can also buy ice and firewood. The campground is gated. Lots to do at the campground and lots to do in the surrounding area. They welcome all furry friends!

      Raccoon Creek State Park Campground

      Raccoon Creek Camping

This is a large state park offering electric only sites

The sites are set amounts the forest and there are several loops to choose from. Loop F is pet friendly. All sites are within walking distance to amenities

Amenities are quite run down but functional

Wildlife is beautiful and its a short ~10min drive to the beach area of Raccoon Creek lake.

Two (2) dump station spots and fresh water taps location throughout the park

NOTE: Many sites are not level, you will require blocks/timber to level out campers. Tent campers should choose their site using the photos on the state park site.

All sites have a paved car space.

      Mercer-Grove City KOA

      Really nice!

Very well maintained campground with lots of amenities, esp for kids (pool, playground). Generous sized sites, not too close together. Looks like quite a few long-term RVers here. Cute chickens wandering around. Hiking trail accessible from the campsite. Heavily wooded and quiet, but not too far off interstate.

      Tomlinson Run State Park Campground

      Very wooded campground

General: 50-site (all but six with electric hookups) campground plus two yurts and three cabins. Two sites are handicap accessible.

Site Quality: The sites have gravel pads (except the handicap-accessible ones which were paved). The sites were completely covered with leaves when we were there which made it challenging to determine where the actual (narrow) pad was. Sites appeared to be level. A fire ring and wooden picnic table complete the site.

Bathhouse: A little dated but clean. Two of the stall doors did not latch properly. Didn't use the shower so cannot comment but there was a sign indicating it took a while for the water to warm up.

Activities/Amenities: There is a small camper store, laundry, and a playground. In season, there is lake swimming and a boat dock. There is a fishing area, mini-golf and disc golf, and several short hiking trails. Unfortunately, since we arrived late afternoon and had to depart early the following day (and were camping off-season), we could not take advantage of any of these things. What we lose in activities, we gain in a quieter camping experience with fewer crowds, which is generally preferable for us!

      Mosquito Lake State Park Campground

Beautiful campground, choose your site wisely

When we arrived, we checked in at the camp office. The ladies there were very kind. The roads through the campground are wide enough for two-way traffic and nicely paved.

This is a beautiful, heavily treed campground. Even on Memorial Day weekend with lots of people, the park was very peaceful. The sounds of birds permeate the air round the clock. Chipmunks run amok. They’re just so cute.

We booked site 56 for our 39’ fifth wheel. As soon as we pulled up, we knew there was no way we’d fit even though the reservation site said it would accommodate a 40’ rig. The camp hosts happened to be passing by as we were surveying the site. They were very helpful redirecting us to a nearby site that would be more suitable. FYI, sites 55 and 56 have deep culverts on either side. One wrong turn and you’re going to have a problem. The majority of sites along our road were just wide enough to keep the tires out of the dirt, but not wide enough for the stairs to land on asphalt. If you have a motorhome or other wide-bodied rig, like an Alliance Paradigm, I would recommend choosing one of the sites on the loop around the playground. Those are better suited for newer big rigs.

TIP…the line at the dump station is long on the holiday weekends. Plan accordingly.

      KOA - Monthly Stay

Camping in a 33 ft travel trailer with slides. Verizon service is great. Wifi in extended parking doesn’t work well. The staff are helpful and polite. We are in the extended stay part of the campground which is quiet and slightly more secluded than the other spots.

      Shenango Campground

      Huge COE

After getting off I80, our RV GPS wanted to take us on a wonky route, so we followed Waze and the campground’s(CG) web instructions that took us across the causeway on N. Hermitage Rd, then a right turn off on Birchwood Rd, which led us to take a left turn back across N. Hermitage Rd to get back to the Shenango Rec Area turn. Once we got to the CG, check in was quick and very easy. Just happened, our next door neighbor/camp host checked us in and told us we could get water off their site so we proceeded straight to site 199 that’s a back in with electric(50/30 AMP) only plus one of the better spaced sites in the CG. We had to maneuver a couple of times to get into the 90 degree site but the road was wide with no obstacles to prevent swinging into the site. We quickly found out that our 50 AMP connection had issues and after reporting it, a maintenance crew came within 20 minutes and fixed a bad breaker. We got 3 bars on Verizon and a handful of OTA channels. Due to the amount of mature trees, satellite would be iffy depending on your site. There are no FHU sites(camp host sites have electric& water). Electric sites are centrally grouped within the loops and spaced closer together than most COEs. The majority of the sites within this CG are dry camping and they too are fairly close together. The sites right on the lake were all dry camping. With all the dry camping sites in this CG, its nice that they allow generator use during non quiet hours. Quiet hours here are 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM. There are water spigots periodically located within the loops and the CG map identifies where they are. There’s also a two-lane dump station located near the entrance but there is no potable water. There are signs stating no alcohol in the park, but people were openly drinking. We also noted that the contractors who clean the restroom/shower facilities start early in the morning and close the facility while cleaning, which was inconvenient for the dry campers just waking up. If we were to stay at this CG again, we’d come during the week and get a dry camping site on the water.

    Guide to Beaver

RV campgrounds near Beaver, Pennsylvania provide access to the area's forest land and water recreation opportunities within a 45-mile radius. The region sits at the confluence of the Ohio and Beaver Rivers, offering varied terrain from 800 to 1,400 feet elevation. Most campgrounds remain open from April through October with limited winter availability.

    What to do

Fishing and boating at Lake Arthur: Tomlinson Run State Park Campground offers fishing with a small lake for boating. "Beautiful campground, quiet, not to crowded..." reports one camper, with another mentioning that it's "the kind of place that has some really great sits and some not so great."

Visit multiple water activities: Families visiting Austin Lake RV Park & Cabins can enjoy "tons of stuff to do here" including "kayaks, paddle boards, jumps, slides." One visitor noted their kids "loved the lake and everything there was to do on it."

Hiking trails: Several parks offer hiking options, including Raccoon Creek's 40+ miles of trails. "There are lots of trails to choose from. Some were pretty easy some were a little hilly. My favorite was the fern trail - lots of ferns and a very pretty stream," reports a visitor to Tomlinson Run.

    What campers like

Well-maintained facilities: Chestnut Ridge Park and Campground receives praise for its upkeep. "They keep up on the gravel and leveling which is always appreciated," notes one reviewer. Another camper shares, "Level gravel sites with really great grassy areas."

Family-oriented events: Bear Run Campground organizes activities throughout camping season. "Every weekend there are activities, there is a heated pool and Friday night Bingo," reports a regular visitor. Another camper mentions, "The campground hosts themed events, game nights and arts&crafts."

Swimming options: Multiple campgrounds feature pools or swimming areas. "The pool & concession stand, beautifully maintained lawns and gravel campsites," were highlights at Pine Cove Beach Club RV Resort, according to a reviewer.

    What you should know

Cell service variability: Connectivity differs dramatically between locations. At Austin Lake RV Park, one camper noted "No phone service at all, no matter the carrier," while at Pine Cove Beach Club RV Resort, campers report reliable connectivity.

Seasonal operations: Most campgrounds in the region close during winter months. Only a few like Pine Cove Beach Club RV Resort operate year-round, while others like RV Village Camping Resort have limited seasons from "Apr 1 - Oct 31."

Site leveling challenges: At Raccoon Creek State Park, sites require assessment for levelness. Tomlinson Run State Park campers note that "most aren't level," so come prepared with leveling blocks.

Weather considerations: Flash flooding can impact some campgrounds. At Fombell Landing, one camper reported, "The campground is entirely in a flood zone. It gets so deep the locals cars have floated away."

    Tips for camping with families

Look for campgrounds with activities: Bear Run Campground offers numerous children's amenities. "There is a swimming pool and playground for the kids. It also has a small café that sells baked goods and coffee. On Saturdays they sell amazing Armish Donuts!"

Consider campground layout: Some parks have dedicated family areas. "We stayed in the tent loop at the back of the campground. The area is not wooded at all and most sites look right into the sites next to them," noted one Raccoon Creek visitor.

Check noise levels: Quieter campgrounds may better suit families with young children. At RV Village Camping Resort, one visitor mentioned, "The daily sites are a bit tight which lends to noisy evenings past quiet hours. We had to get creative making white noise for our toddler to sleep."

    Tips from RVers

Navigating steep entrances: Approach narrow or steep roads with caution. A visitor to Austin Lake advised, "Be advised it will seem a little sketchy getting in. The road dead-ends into the campground and it is all downhill getting there."

Site selection matters: Choose sites based on your specific needs. At Chestnut Ridge, "They got me setup quickly allowing me to head to the hospital. They helped with another issue as well. Friendly and nice."

Seasonal considerations: Winter camping options remain limited near Beaver. Pine Cove Beach Club RV Resort operates "All year," while most other facilities close by November.

Leveling equipment: Pack extra leveling blocks for this area. At Tomlinson Run, "pad is pretty level, plenty for our small camper and truck, on a slight hill to get to fire ring but lots of space to spread out."
