Peaceful
It was a peaceful night. From our spot we could hear the sea lions off in the distance. There were plenty of open spaces so you didn’t have to be right up on anyone else.

Spent 3 nights here, great sites, very clean campsites. Peaceful and quiet long before 10pm. Close to town, sightseeing and the beach. Will stay here again. One of my favorite campgrounds.

If you're in an RV or similar and aren't looking for much privacy nor much of an outdoorsy feeling with much privacy, then you might love this campground. But if you're more into solitude and space and privacy, i would suggest you keep looking. While the tent sites offer a bit more space from one another and feel a lot less like a parking lot than the fully accessible sites, you can hear the regular sound of the jetty horn every 12 seconds.

This campground wasn't my first or even 4rth choice. I didn't try to reserve a campsite until the day after it opened for my date, so out of luck. I wanted a site by the ocean, but this campground doesn't offer ANY sites with an ocean view. It's still turned out ok
though.
South Beach campground is HUGE! Lots of sites laid out in circles with a bath house in the center. Your best bet is a site on the perimeter. We had C-15, which has to be the best site there! Large& private. The showers are free. About as clean as any state park usually is, which is fair. Try to avoid a site by the bathroom. Tight sites with no privacy.
We had no issues with noise after quiet hours. This was one of the few campgrounds on our trip we could have a fire.$5 a bundle, which is the least expensive during out trip.
Newport is one of the larger towns in the area. We did hear traffic noise & the foghorn. Some sirens every day also.
In the campground this is a VERY busy, loud place. If you dislike the sound of children playing, you may hate it here. Lots of skateboards, bikes, scooters& people walking on the roads. Be careful driving& take it slow. There's beach access you can walk to or drive to. The beach looked nice. Some trails also.
All in all, we had a very good time here. Although we didn't feel unsafe, we didn't leave much of anything out either. I would recommend making a reservation as early as possible. Every campground we passed in a 70 mile radius had NO vacancy signs.

State campground. Lots of trails, spacious sites. Full hookups. Clean bathrooms and showers.

We loved this spot. Hot showers, walk to the beach, quiet at night. They sell firewood for $5 a cord and fire pits at every site.
Great for camping with kids. If you don't have kids and don't want them tramping through your site, then don't come here! My site had no privacy, no shade and a family who thought my site was part of their soccer field. Glad I was only there for one night.
$42.

It was a nice campground. Definitely the largest one I have ever been to. Most people there were in RVs and campers. The sites were level, most of them were in full sun but some had shade along the tree line and on the main road through the campground. The bathhouse was clean but smelled a bit funky-air freshener would have been a good idea! The bathroom toilet stalls were SUPER tiny. You had to step next to the toilet to close the door behind you-not ADA compliant-but they had a separate room for ADA use. I liked how the path to the bathhouse was lit with yellow lights at night.
I loved the open space behind my specific campsite (D32). My site had water and electric hookup (I didn't use). There is an airport nearby and a few small private planes flew overhead while I was there but it wasn't too noisy. I could hear the ocean since it was only a quarter mile from the campground. I also loved the day use area at the campground, the parking lot was huge and there were bathrooms there (I didn't use them though) the trail I walked on was paved and very flat (easy on my knees!) and the boardwalk was pretty picturesque. The campground has a hospitality store if you forgot items, a playground, and even a 18 hole disc golf course! Lots of trails to hike on around the campground. Overall, it was a nice time-I enjoyed myself and would return.

The place was packed but you still had so much space. We were right on the playground which was awesome. Camp hosts come between guests and clean out / leaf blow the whole place. It was incredible. Bathrooms super clean. A great walk to the beach and we walked to rogue brewery too. Bonus!

Our site, B8, was right on the main road, so a lot of traffic was always going by. Sites in this part of the park are close together with little vegetation in between, so not at all private. The bike trails to the beach access points and jetty are lovely and the many dog-friendly pick-up bags and receptacles are much appreciated.
South Beach campground has a lot of great features. There are multiple bathhouses with both restrooms and showers scattered throughout the campground. The playground is large and well-kept. The shore is a quarter mile walk away from the main road, and there is a nature trail encircling the campground. The bathhouses were clean with warm water, good water pressure in the showers, and soap provided which isn’t always the case. The sites are moderately small and close together, but most have shade trees marking the boundaries. Overall an excellent campground.
This is a large state park with multiple recreational activities and about 300 campsites. Was able to get a reservation a couple of days before the record high temps in Portland to escape the heat. 30-40 degrees cooler than Portland, 1/2 mile from the beach, site has some shade, showers were clean, the area is beautiful. This place totally met our needs.

I camped here during Memorial day weekend. It was crowded, lots of families with RVs. Bathrooms/showers are very clean and nice. Very dog friendly. Nice trails, beach access. Newport is only few minutes drive away and such a cute small coastal town. If you are tent camping and prefer more privacy and to be away from RV area I suggest "I" loop.

This park is very busy As a result the grass around the individual sites is a bit thin. We stayed two days at Sunset Bay SP, not as busy and the grass is thicker. The “hospitality” office is closed but firewood is available. The beach is about 1/4-1/3 mile from the campground.

I originally wanted to go to the RV park by Rogue Brewery but my wife wanted to check this one out and it did not disappoint. We didn’t have a reservation but there was lots of one night spaces available. The spots with green tag are up for grab for a night and the ones with white paper on them have reservations. Not sure the status of the sites with neither marker...... but with around 250 sites there was lots to pick from. Men’s shower was warm and had good pressure but my wife said women’s lacked water pressure. Nice walk/bike paths lead to the beach and the jetty. Was just 1.5 mile walk to Rogue brewery. Which was nice to work off a couple beers 🍻 and Reuben Fries. 🍟. Ok probably not enough enough walking to burn those calories but it was a nice walk. Probably would of taken Uber back of it was dark though. Part of the trail goes through some hardly marked narrow bits. Water and electricity but no sewer. Dump station as you leave the park.

Campground was packed, and people were noisy up until the 10PM cutoff. But everyone was quiet after that. Nice space, bushes between the spaces make them feel fairly private. Nice hiking areas nearby and easy beach access.
Just a correction, before the rest of the review. There are no sewer hookups for RVs. Only a dump station.
I loved this campground for many things, but the 10-15 minute walk to the beach was my favorite part. We stayed a week.
A couple things of note: Playground for kids in loop C; showers are now open; Yurts are available for $60 a night, and you can park a camper at each yurt, too (just pay extra vehicle charge), and last, Newport is home to Rogue Brewery and within an hour from Monmouth and Salem wineries. Check Groupon for some great specials on these.

This state park campground made the perfect motorhome site. Tucked away in the trees with lots of open grass space and sunshine. Nicely kept bathroom and showers. A quick walk to the beach down a paved path. The various campsite loops offer different set ups and the online map will help you decide what’s best for you. We really like the “E” loop and the privacy it offers for a couple of adults with dogs. And a frisbee golf course!

When I was driving around other sites closer to the restroom had 3G coverage and 1 bar. Internet speed test at Loop C site 11 1st time tested: 36.6 Mbps download 2.24 Mbps upload. 2nd time tested 63.4 Mbps download 7.09 Mbps upload Latency: 5 ms Server: Seattle
The Yurts looked awesome. A good choice instead of a hotel if you’re on a budget. Showers and bathrooms are as nice as a hotel. Immaculately clean. They sell firewood and ice too. Wonderful, easy trails and wooded area. The beach access was easy. There is a boardwalk. Horses allowed on the beach. Cool at night and noisy on the weekends though.
A big plus for families is how close it is to Newport with all of its tourist attractions. Historic bay front, fresh crab and seafood, sea lions on the dock. Gorgeous Yaquina Bay National Park and lighthouse. Lots of wildlife. And don’t forget the Oregon Coast Aquarium and Hatfield Marine Science Center!

This a great spot if you have older kids who like to ride bikes. Not a ton of privacy at the camp sites, but you can hang by your fire and watch your kids ride laps around the campground loop. Great Beach here also and close proximity to the Aquarium and Rogue Ale house. *Update* Awesome playground for kids and quite a few surfers out at the beach. This would be an easy 5 stars if there was more privacy between sites.

What a great spot. You can now book online. Great for families. You can easily walk to the beach. Awesome paths for walking or biking. I would tow the kids around in a bike cart and we could ride up and down the pathway, under the Newport Bridge (it's safe), to the Jetty and near Rogue Brewery!! Love this spot. Good public bathrooms, power and water hookups. Dump station there but no sewer at your camp site (only draw back), otherwise it is awesome!! The outer edges of the loops are better for bigger RVs, travel trailers.

We stayed here in a tent. We were with a groups spread over multiple sites, and it worked really well. We were next to the playground so the kids could play while we kept and eye on them. Nice clean bathroom/showers. The trails to the beach are so great! I didn’t have my bike with me for this particular trip, so I rented one at the campground - a wonderful amenity to have! The bike paths are great, and of course the stretch of beach the park is on is nice and wide open and a great way to spend a day!

To begin, this campground is very clean and I enjoyed the hiking trails around the campground.
Unfortunately, we were not fond of our campsite (I7). We were extremely close to the sites next to us and we were able to see and hear everything that everyone else was doing. Additionally, the bathroom is located fairly far away from this site.
The walk to the beach is 1/2 mile and starts off paved and leads into paths through sand dunes. We were hoping that the beach would have been a bit closer.
Overall, I would not recommend this campground if you are looking for a quiet/private camping experience.

Nice grounds, several bathrooms. Near a great walk path (paved) and easy access to the beach. This is a great campground and very kid friendly!!

Part of South Beach State Park, the campground is a great base camp for the entire Newport area. The camp is extremely well maintained, and the hosts obviously take pride in their work.
The sites a little on close side, but provide adequate space. There’s an excellent playground for the kids and the beach is 1/4 mile down a paved trail that is handicap accessible. The trail system also gives access to the south jetty, a small convenience store/restaurant, the Oregon aquarium, and the Hatfield Marine Science Center. Hatfield is a part of the Oregon State University system and is free, but accepts donations.
The south jetty is a good place for spotting starfish, crabs, and anemones. The beach is relatively clean of debris and has some opportunities for finding shells and marine fossils.

I have stayed here a few times mostly when the kids were younger, but recently stayed here in a Yurt.
Its basicalky a RV type place..crowded sites, no privacy and tons of screaming kids.
Its clean and there are some trails ( one very easy ) to the beach which is quite nice.
The hosts are excellent if busy.
The Yurt was great , but be prepared for the fog horns going off all night on the jetty.
Good for RVs and kids,
Definitely felt like town camping. Sites are close with limited privacy. Sitting around the campfire, we could see into other people's trailers. We took a drive around and decided the outside sites next to the nature trails would be better than in any of the loops. It was perfect for our Newport plans though! Very close to town, jetty, dock and beach.
South Beach SP Oregon Site B1 Memorial Weekend Crowded but nice. Some loops very narrow rods and lots of kids on bikes. We were in a back in end site. A bit more room but beach access walkway next to us meant a lot of foot traffic. Large open beach with small waves. Access is ADA friendly. Level asphalt pad. Minimal privacy from trees but they do provide some shade. So.e skeeters but not to bad yet. Large trees at rear or site. Average bathhouse close by. CG has yurts, and tent sites too. Great restaurant close to SP has fresh crab, salmon, halibut and cod. Right next to it is a fresh cherry stand
