Horsfall Campground

Where paved roads meet Oregon's coastal dunes, Horsfall Campground operates as a staging area for off-road vehicle enthusiasts within Siuslaw National Forest. The US Forest Service facility sits on open terrain with numbered parking-style sites that accommodate RVs up to 52 feet, complete with water hookups and standard amenities.

The campground functions primarily as a hub for ATV and dirt bike activity, with families using it as base camp for dune exploration. Sites lack traditional separation or privacy features, arranged instead as marked spaces on paved surfaces with minimal grass coverage. "It was a parking lot with numbers for your site," one camper noted, capturing the utilitarian layout that prioritizes vehicle access over scenic camping.

Noise levels run high during peak hours as off-road vehicles move through the area, typically quieting down around 10:30 PM according to recent visitors. The facility serves its intended purpose well for those bringing sand toys and planning active dune adventures. Cell service remains available, and trash collection keeps the area maintained.

Campers seeking quieter alternatives can explore campgrounds around North Bend or consider nearby Bluebill Campground for a different atmosphere. Reserve ahead during summer months when ATV activity peaks.

Many mentioned excellent dune access and helpful hosts, but noise from ATVs until late evening and parking-lot style sites were consistent concerns. Best suited for visitors with sand toys rather than traditional camping.

Glorified parking lot for ATV enthusiasts

Spots are just large parking spots painted on the concrete. No site separation. When we arrived it was extremely noisy with ATVs and dirt bikes zipping all over the place. This didn't stop until about 10:30 when it finally got quiet for the night. Ok camp spot in a pinch. But if you're not here to play in the dunes it's probably not for you.

Kids, Trees and Buggies

Nice public location - cool trees, good dune access and lots of families having a safe time on their buggies and ATVs.  Also packed-in and noisy, but you didn't come here to meditate or hear the owls hoot.  Start looking for sites at Horsfall Beach and work your way back to this.

Great place for the sand dunes.

We did a last minute camping trip and most places were full. We mostly tent camp. There was very little grass and only a couple of tents. It was a parking lot with numbers for your site. It was loud and no privacy. Would be a great place to camp if you had sand toys and were there to party.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Horsfall Campground look like and are there photos available?

Horsfall Campground resembles a parking lot with numbered sites painted on concrete rather than traditional dirt or grass campsites. The area features cool trees surrounding the campground and is situated near sand dunes. The aesthetic is utilitarian, designed primarily for easy ATV and dune buggy access rather than scenic camping. Photos of the campground may be available on the official recreation management website or The Dyrt, which would show the paved sites, surrounding trees, and nearby dunes.

Can you camp directly on Horsfall Beach and what are the regulations?

Camping is available at Horsfall Beach area, which is suggested as a preferable alternative to the main Horsfall Campground. Beach camping offers a more desirable experience with better access to the sand dunes. While specific regulations aren't detailed, expect standard rules regarding vehicle use, designated areas, and proper waste disposal. The beach area experiences high activity from ATVs and dune buggies during the day, with noise typically subsiding around 10:30 PM. For exact regulations, check with the Siuslaw National Forest or the on-site camp host.

What amenities and facilities are available at Horsfall Campground?

Horsfall Campground offers basic amenities with numbered sites on paved surfaces. The campground has limited facilities and minimal natural features with very little grass. A camp host is available to assist visitors. The primary draw is quick access to the dunes for ATV and off-road vehicle enthusiasts. There's no site separation for privacy, making it more suitable for group camping or those focused on outdoor recreation rather than a secluded nature experience.

Is there a map of Horsfall Campground showing campsites and layout?

Maps of Horsfall Campground are likely available at the entrance or from the camp host upon arrival. The layout is relatively straightforward, with numbered sites marked on paved surfaces arranged in a parking-lot style configuration. For a detailed campground map showing the exact layout and amenities, check the official U.S. Forest Service website or contact the Siuslaw National Forest office directly. Consider stopping at a ranger station before arrival to get the most current map.
