Stonelick State Park Campground sits along the serene waters of Stonelick Lake, just 20 minutes from Miamiville, Ohio. The park features campsites nestled among mature trees with natural features that provide unique camping experiences compared to resort-style accommodations. Sites vary in terrain with some positioned on slopes that can create challenges for setting up camp during wet conditions.
What to do
Hiking for all levels: Multiple trails surround Stonelick State Park Campground, including a short Pollinator trail accessible directly from some campsites. "Despite the rain and the wind we had a great time! Our spot was right next to a small Pollinator trail that lead to the water," notes camper Jess H.
Canoeing and kayaking: The Little Miami River offers excellent paddling opportunities at Morgan's Canoe and Outdoor Adventure with rental options and transportation services. "Morgan's is amazing! They have been around for a few generations and provide canoeing, rafting, and kayaking at different trip lengths for a great price," shares Carolyn M.
Mountain biking: Multiple parks in the region offer both paved and unpaved trails suitable for cycling. Trails range from beginner-friendly paved paths to more challenging terrain through wooded areas. "There are miles of paved and rustic hiking trails. A short 18 hole Disc Golf course is close by. It is an easy course great for beginners," reports Dan G. about recreation options.
Golfing and equestrian activities: Several parks feature golf courses and horseback riding opportunities within short driving distance of glamping options in Miamiville. This creates opportunities for mixed outdoor activities during a single stay.
What campers like
Private outdoor spaces: Hueston Woods State Park Campground offers spacious sites with natural buffers between camping areas. "We love Hueston Woods! We have been there twice now and tent camp. A lot of the sites are large and have enough space for everything you need!" says Maddy B.
Clean facilities: Most campgrounds maintain well-kept restrooms and shower facilities, though quality varies by location and season. "The bathrooms are a quick walk and very clean. The showers and park are a small walk but also super nice," reports Jess H. about her stay at Stonelick State Park.
Water recreation access: Lakes and rivers provide swimming, fishing and boating opportunities within walking distance of many sites. "Amazing views of the water and surrounding wooded areas. Good place to fish for bluegill and catfish. Awesome place to swim during daytime hours, just remember to use caution and don't go out of designated area," advises one visitor.
Year-round availability: While many glamping locations in Miamiville operate seasonally, Winton Woods Campground Hamilton County Park remains open throughout the year. "I stayed at an electric only spot nestled in the trees by the lake. I was the only RV in this section all week and it was so peaceful and private," shares Tamar about an off-season stay.
What you should know
Seasonal challenges: Weather impacts site conditions significantly. "We stayed in site 35 and it was very slopey, our levelers only helped a little," notes Kara S. about Stonelick State Park during a rainy period.
Booking system issues: Some parks have challenging reservation systems. "We needed to stay on a Monday night and tried all weekend to book a site online. Both the mobile site and the full website didn't work," reports one camper about their experience.
Varying site privacy: A.J. Jolly Park & Campground offers mixed experiences regarding site isolation. "Close to Cincinnati but each site is wooded and on lake front, lots to do!" reports Anna N., while another camper notes, "Some spots are tight and a few are directly in front of others so that spectacular water view may not be available if there's a big RV in front of you."
Wildlife encounters: Poison ivy appears in some natural areas, particularly along trails and tree lines. "Clean, quiet and peaceful. Had alot of poison ivy in the tree lines and trails but not a bad experience over all," notes Brittany S.
Tips for camping with families
Playground access: Many campgrounds feature play areas for children within walking distance of sites. "Winton woods is a fun place to go with the family. There are playgrounds, trails, boat rentals, boat rentals, (the water is a little... ehhhh), there's Parkys farm which is fun for little ones!" shares Kelsey L.
Kid-friendly biking routes: Several parks offer safe cycling paths suitable for younger riders. "Nice park in Cincinnati with lots to do for Everyone. Tent/RV sites were level and had lots of Shade and trees for Hammocks. 1.7 mile paved walking trail is great for walking, running and biking," explains Dan G.
Educational opportunities: Camp Cedar provides organized activities for children throughout the camping season. "Great location across from Kings Island. Many activities within this campus. Many beautiful cabins," notes Michael J.
Safety considerations: Some lakefront glamping sites require extra supervision for families with small children. "We were a little nervous as the cabin is so close the river. This is part of the charm but when you have a 3 year old in your group then it is smart to keep an extra sharp eye on the kiddo as the river is a huge draw," advises a visitor at Morgan's Canoe.
Tips from RVers
Site leveling challenges: Many sites require significant effort to achieve a level setup. "If you're good at backing, there were a good many deeper sites that you could use," suggests Gary J. about Winton Woods Campground.
Hookup considerations: Electric and water connections may be positioned on opposite sides at some sites, requiring extra hose or cord length. Some campgrounds offer 50-amp service while others provide only 30-amp connections.
Seasonal availability: Water connections may be shut off during winter months at year-round campgrounds, requiring self-contained water systems during cold weather camping near Miamiville.
Big rig accessibility: "The campground was just completed Aug 2021. There are no big trees and lots are on top of one another. However, if this doesn't bother you it's really close to the Kings Island Amusement Park and also has a nice pool and activities," notes Elana C. about newer glamping options in the region.
