    Oak Creek Campground

    Easy place to stop

Nice campground with several pull through sites for big rigs. Pool and new dog park with a very nice play area for the kids. We prefer site 18 which offers nice privacy and os next to a stream.

Ohio River Campground and Marina — Shawnee State Park

    Very Peaceful, Very Clean

We stayed in Site 09. The sites are spacious with level, asphalted pads. Each site has a fire pit and picnic table.

Toward the front of the campground is a great splash pad, playground, and dog park, which includes an agility course. These are located away from the RV's; therefore, the campground was very quiet and peaceful.

Nearby was a marina, fishing access, and an archery range. The surrounding hills are pretty.

The bath house was clean. A laundry room was available.

The only drawback was the lack of shade. Because this place is relatively new, in time--as the planted seedlings grow--this problem will lessen.

    East Fork State Park Campground

    Overall great state park

Generous sized campsites, a lot of them are wooded which we prefer, with around 400 sites there are plenty to choose from! Bathroom/shower facilities are updated and usually well maintained. There is a large public beach but it's on the other side of the park so you have to drive all the way around to get to it, no short cuts. They have a camp ground beach but it's been closed the last 2 years. Lots of hiking trails, bridal trails and a bike path. Wish list for this park: Boat rental, dog park, dog beach/water access. Overall a beautiful park.

The Landing at Bear Creek RV Park

    Work in Progress

This is newly opened and a lot of work still needs to be done. Currently there is no dog park, hiking trails or bathhouses like it states. Many of the spots aren’t even finished yet.

When looking at the camp map don’t plan on having access to the creek or river. Your lucky if you can even view it.

The ground is all sand. So while if it rains you won’t get muddy, but the sand is a pain and gets everywhere.

Three Springs Campground and RV Park

    Beautiful in all weather!

We didn't let the rainy Kentucky weather disrupt our weekend getaway! We stayed warm and dry inside Page's cabin. Uphill trails are spectacular, with plenty of pet friendly areas.

The Landing at Bear Creek RV Park

    Family Atmosphere

This is the best campground we have stayed at. We have been here all summer and we’ve had no complaints. The owners are great people who are always here working and interacting with the campers. Splash pad, pavilion, playground, Gaga pit, and dog park are a few of the great amenities. Each lot has a fire pit and the lots are large. They do activities for the kids every weekend and also have bands! It’s a fun place.

The Landing at Bear Creek RV Park

Best full time campground on the Ohio River!

We are full-time RVers and this is by far the best park we've stayed at! It's peaceful and beautiful, everyone (especially Management) is so friendly and fun! The laundry facility is one of the greatest amenities as we've stayed other places without one, so we truly appreciate it! The splash pad is fantastic for children and adults alike! There's a dog park, and a kids kangaroo jump pad as well. The view of the river is beautiful! On weekends there's entertainment and/or cornhole tournaments to bring everyone together. The park is maintained perfectly and I've enjoyed calling it home! By far the best park in Southern Clermont County! Must see!

What to Do

Hiking through historic areas: Blue Licks Battlefield State Resort Park features multiple trail systems with varying difficulty levels. "This Park off Ky68 outside Lexington was a nice, informative stop over enroute back home. You get to enjoy the Kentucky countryside as you drive to Blue Licks, once at the park the view is pretty sweet. I actually got a sense of the time period just viewing the landscape at the 'top' of the park," notes Shelly S. from Blue Licks Battlefield State Resort Park.

Fishing along river access points: Zilpo Campground provides designated fishing areas along Cave Run Lake. "Great campground with great views of lake and easy way to the beach," says Vince B. who camped at Zilpo Campground. The campground offers fishing access from both shoreline spots and boat launches.

Mini golf and recreation: Kincaid Lake State Park has a 9-hole golf course and mini golf facilities. "What a wonderful park. Hiking and mini-golf were the highlights for me, while the 9-hole golf course was a highlight for other family members. We all enjoyed the variety of activities at the park as well- tennis, volleyball, a swimming pool, and even an area to rent paddle boats," explains Sara S.

What Campers Like

Private riverside camping spots: Sandy Springs Campground receives consistently high ratings for its waterfront sites. "We stayed from Sunday until Tuesday and didn't want to leave! The campground offers something for everyone: playground equipment, basketball hoop and various balls, access to the river for fishing, and absolutely stunning views of the Ohio as well as the surrounding hills," notes BluePitMom O. from Sandy Springs Campground.

Clean, well-maintained facilities: Multiple campgrounds maintain high standards for bathhouses and common areas. "Very friendly and helpful staff. Nice showers was a plus!" mentions Helen F. about Blue Licks Battlefield. This focus on cleanliness extends to other facilities within the parks.

Historical learning opportunities: Carter Caves State Resort Park combines camping with educational experiences. "The park is amazing and I have no idea how it took me 39yrs to find it so close to home. The caves are absolutely amazing and the park has some of the best natural bridges I have ever seen. Make sure to get a permit for Horn Hollow on a day of no rain or else you will not be able to enter it," advises Amanda S. from Carter Caves State Resort Park Campground.

What You Should Know

Site spacing and privacy varies: Site layouts differ significantly between campgrounds. "Overall friendly campground. Spaces were smaller but we had room to make ours. We had spot 19 and thought it was one of the best," mentions Bethany W. about Blue Licks Battlefield State Park.

Hookup locations can be challenging: Some electric and water connections require additional equipment. "The only issue was that some of the sites were around 50 ft from the electric hook up. Thankfully we were able to switch spots instead of renting an extension cord," notes Autumn L. from Carter Caves State Resort Park Campground.

Seasonal operations: Several campgrounds have limited operating seasons. East Fork State Park maintains year-round access but with reduced services during winter months. "All camper pads are paved and most appeared level or just very slightly sloped. A picnic table and fire ring complete the site. Some sites have more trees to provide privacy while others are closer together with little separation," explains Lee D. from East Fork State Park Campground.

Tips for Camping with Families

Playgrounds and kid-friendly activities: Sandy Springs Campground offers dedicated children's facilities. "The campsite is totally geared towards family fun! The owners are so hospitable, that you feel like family! One of the most fun places we've ever stayed! My kids were busy nonstop with planned fun activities!" shares Emily W.

Nature programs for children: Look for scheduled ranger-led activities. "Quinton doing his nature walks, and events fit the family and kids with scavenger hunts," mentions Shaun B. from Blue Licks Battlefield State Resort Park regarding the park's family programming.

Off-season visitation: Consider camping during shoulder seasons for less crowded experiences. "We went the first weekend it was open this year and had a great experience. Stayed Friday-Sunday on a full hookup site against the woods, the road had a loop at the end for easy pull through," suggests Kelli B. about East Fork State Park.

Tips from RVers

Leveling requirements: Prepare for varied pad conditions. "The campground is small with paved sites but lots of ruts in the grass areas from vehicles parking and driving into the grass areas. We were close to the primitive spots and luckily no one was in them or it would have been pretty crowded," notes Todd C. from Cabin Run Creek Campground.

Electrical and water access challenges: Bring extension cords and extra water hose. "Disappointed in the camping part - pads is very small for RV, the connections are far away, no room for vehicles and the trees were so close we couldn't op our awning up all the way," explains Lisa P. about Blue Licks Battlefield State Park.

Pet-friendly considerations for RVers: Many campgrounds welcome pets with specific guidelines. "We stayed in site 10 right on the river and the views were great. Lots of green area to play," shares Tiffani C., highlighting the pet-friendly spaces at Sandy Springs Campground that allow dogs room to exercise within designated areas.
