      Van Buren State Park Campground

      Quiet

Since Van Buren State park is an easy 20 minutes away from home for me, i visit there often. it is clean and quiet, they dont get too busy and loud. the horse camp is nice with some new pens to keep your horse instead of them having to be tied up. They keep the restrooms clean, but no flush toilets, which dont bother me. My only complaint about Van Buren State park is that there are no shower facilities.

      Camp sites are tiny

Camp sites are tiny. We had site 88 and it was supposed to be full shade. It was full sun and they have it set up so the camp side of the trailer faces the road. The fire pit is also three feet from the road. Who wants to have a fire next to the road?

      Van Buren State Park Campground

      Small and peaceful

We stayed one night on our way to IN. We’ve never been here before and wanted to check it off our list. It’s a small campground with one side as equestrian and the other side not. All sites had electric and water, no full hookup. There were only drop toilets and no showers. They were clean but I don’t think I’d want to do more than a weekend there. It had a nice playground for kids and plenty of trails to hike or go horseback riding. They also had a dog park and small wildflower garden. The check in cabin had ice and wood for sale but no store. Our site was really nice. The pads were recently paved and had a huge bumper at the end. The fire ring was nice and the site had plenty of space for tents.

      Van Buren State Park Campground

      Quiet campground

We stayed during the week for one night. Campground was clean and quiet, had electric hookups at most sites. Host was very friendly. They also have a camp area for horses. Only criticism is you have to drive to another area of the park for an RV dump.

      Van Buren State Park Campground

      Fair campground

Campground is small but well maintained. Hiking is great. Probably better for people with horses. Electric did not work at all sites. Pit toilets did not seem sufficient for all camp sites.

      A gem in Northwest Ohio

Van Buren State Park is very easy to access from I-75. It has tons of trails and a pond. There are a few places to car camp or RV camp nearby. I love getting out of town and visiting Van Buren State Park, and I have lots of good memories. It gets 4 stars because I now live in Montana and Montana camping outshines Ohio, but I can't bash on Van Buren State Park at all.

      Ouabache State Park Campground

Nice campground for a bike ride.

We have stayed at this park several times.  The camp sites are mostly spaced out for room, but some can get very wet and flooded during a nice rain.  The paved bike trail in the park starts near the campground, and connects with a bike trail along the Wabash River that goes into nearby Bluffton, and is an easy ride.  The bison enclosure is always fun to check out, and the last time we stayed I actually walked to the top of the restored fire tower to take in the view.  We have never used the lake, but plan on taking some kayaks out at some point.

      Van Buren State Park Campground

      Nice quiet place

Tried it for the first time. It was quiet and relaxing. The camp host was nice and friendly. Kids loved having the playground so close to the camper. Will be back soon.

    What campers like

Well-maintained facilities: Kiser Lake State Park Campground has made recent improvements to its facilities. "There is a new shower house that's pretty nice, but the other bathrooms are pretty nasty. For $29 nightly it's a good campground," reports Aaliya B., noting the value despite some facility limitations.

Accessibility for different camping styles: Parks accommodate various camping preferences with different site configurations. "The campground has no full hookups but does have electric. RV sites have a view of the lake. Sites are clean and paved," continues Aaliya about Kiser Lake.

Seasonal programming: Many parks offer special activities during peak seasons. Alexandra F. notes, "They had all sorts of Halloween activities going on, so it wasn't very quiet, but I still enjoyed myself... Very family friendly place."

Trail variety: Parks feature diverse trail systems suitable for multiple activities. "Love all the trails here, lots of options for how long of a hike you want to take! There's a surprising variation between more deciduous and coniferous environments depending on the trail you choose," explains Bethany S. about trails at Ouabache State Park.

    What you should know

Water situation: Water access varies significantly between campgrounds. "Only draw back is no water and sewer hook up at the campsite," mentions Steve C. about Ouabache State Park, highlighting infrastructure limitations common at some locations.

Bathroom facilities: Van Buren State Park Campground offers basic facilities that may impact longer stays. "There were only drop toilets and no showers. They were clean but I don't think I'd want to do more than a weekend there," explains Shannon G., providing practical insight for trip planning.

Site selection matters: Campground layouts have significant variability in site quality. "Some of the sites are small so you have to be careful which you site you reserve if you're a tent camper. The outside of the circle is your best bet," advises Brendan V., offering specific guidance for Van Buren.
