Many city park campgrounds lack shade, creating hot conditions during summer months. As one camper noted about Edgeley Campground, "You're essentially parked in the sun with hookups and a patch of grass but otherwise no shade." Wind exposure is common at many sites, though some lakeside locations offer tree protection. Most campgrounds in the area maintain basic facilities with varying levels of maintenance. Family-friendly amenities are limited at most sites near Forbes, though Wylie Park Campground near Aberdeen offers extensive recreation options. Limesand Seefeldt Dam

Free dispersed camping on a small lake

There are essentially 3 dispersed spots on an overlook to a small fishing and kayaking lake. There are no services. You get a pretty view and a quiet night of camping. Great little access for a paddle boat.

    Lamoure County Memorial Park

    This place is awesome

Last time I was here was in the late 1980s but it has been very well maintained since then. There are both seasonal campers and overnight spots. First come, first serve. I really wish they would automate reservations. I came in on a Sunday night and loads of spots were available. There are very nice bathrooms and showers and each spot has electric and water. The place is beautiful so look at the pictures and give it a go. If they are full, you can go a few miles up the scenic drive to Dicky and stay there for the night.

There are a few different dump stations.

It may say online they have a laundry but they do not. There is a Historic park with multiple museums next door and a public golf course.

There is no access to the river. The James does not seem to be used like the Sheyenne with boating and such. Not sure why.

    Dickey RV Park

    Great place for a night

Small town RV Park. Looks very lightly used so probably quiet. Pretty and sits in an oxbow of the James River. No real fishing or boating access within the campground and seemingly no activities except road biking if that's your thing.

    Adrian Campground

    Little campground near restaurant

I came upon this while exploring ND. 10 spots with full hook ups. My guess it is for harvest workers but no one was there when I found it. All sun. There are young trees but not big enough yet for any shade. Might be bathrooms in the nearby restaurant and bar.

Free camp spots on a small lake

This isnt very well maintained anymore and no real services but I was here on a Saturday in summer and was the only person. Quiet, small lake for fishing and electric motors only.

There is no cell service here and so I'm using Starlink which has wonderful service. No hiking either but we did break out our inflatable and paddled the lake.

If you want a quiet, free spot for a night and are passing through, this is a good stop. There is no shade for the camper so pick a cool day.

    Beautiful, quiet spot

Wide open spaces near cool historic site. No services but a restroom and picnic tables. We loved it.

Wylie Park Campground & Storybook Land

Cute campground in a nice area

We were there at a very quiet time. It's a pretty, well maintained park with two bath and shower houses. I think it may be a little snug for some at the busy time of the year. I've of the things I really like is that the shower stalls have a private area in front of them with a sink for shaving or whatever allowing you to do what you need without taking up space.

    Groton City Park

5 sites that are good for an overnight.

This is a small 5 site in town campground. It is connected to a large city park. Each site has 50 - 20 amp service. Each site has water and sewer. Picnic tables are available. No fire pits. Garbage dumpster next to campgrounds. Old and new trees on site. Bathrooms have a great deal to be desired. They are dirty and smell horribly. I've used pit toilets that are cleaner and fresher smelling. Night light next to bathrooms keeps area lit up at night. You need to back into sites from the street. Big rigs can get into 4 of 5 sites without interference from over hanging tree branches. Sites are paved, but they are old and starting to break up. It is located in a nice area.

    Melgaard Park

Sites are on top of each other, literally.

Beautifully shaded campground. A very large park to walk in. Sites are small, and each site has 2 campers, so your camper rear is nearly touching the next person's rear of their camper. Bathrooms are clean. No showers. Sites have 50-30-20 amp service. Honestly, this is NOT big rig friendly. The dump station is available. The water station is available across (the campground) from the dump station. Very busy road on west boarder. No fire pits. Tight maneuvering around the park. City maintenance building is here, so there is always lots of traffic. Picnic tables at each site.
