    LOCATION

The location is incredible! We enjoyed the accessibility of hiking, biking and fishing right from the campground. ART LOEB trailhead is right outside the campground entrance and is excellent for hiking and mountain biking. Several loops and even sites provide access to the river for fishing. Just outside the campground are endless trails and several beautiful waterfalls that can be accessed within a 5-15 min car ride. Convenient to a few restaurants, grocery stores and even a Walmart (which is slightly dodgy so be warned).

    SITE

014 WOAK site is an RV site. It’s spacious and very private. We loved how much room we had to spread out and entertain as we were traveling with several other camping families. Our site was the go to spot! Backing in wasn’t difficult. It was convenient that the pull through site across from us was vacant, this made backing in super easy. There are no hookups on this site. So be sure you have a generator! One bonus on the location of this site is the water access just feet away. We needed to fill up and had forgot to do so when we pulled in to the campground. What a relief to see a water access just steps from the campsite! The only downside was that generator hours are very limited. If you are traveling during warmer months or must have AC, this is not the site for you. We felt that the tree coverage really provided us protection from the heat and did very well without AC in early August.

    ACTIVITIES

    • Slide Rock is a natural water slide that is fun for the whole family. Yes… it’s COLD and honestly worth every moment of chilly suffering.

    • Hiking is abundant and all levels are accessible within minutes to a few miles of the campsite. Our favorites are: Looking Glass Falls (steps going down make this a breeze), Moore Cove Falls is a MUST and an easy trail that leads to the perfect waterfall for a good photo, Looking Glass Rock is a moderate to difficult hike and worth it. Looking Glass Rock is a long hike so be prepared to go early and bring a rain jacket.

    • Fishing right within the campground makes it perfect for an early morning or late afternoon activity. The hatchery is nearby and offers some wonderful opportunities to catch and release. Be sure to look in to a guided tour for a hands on experience filled with lots of educational info on local fish.

    • Biking is a top activity for lots of overnight and day campers. The Art Loeb Trail provides endless miles that proves fun for the whole family.

    • Ice Cream at Dolly’s should make your list if you love a refreshing treat. This iconic little stop if right by the entrance to the Pisgah Forest and just around the corner from the campground. Also a great spot for a cell signal!

    • Breweries aren’t hard to find nearby. Small microbreweries are within a few minutes and Sierra Nevada Brewery is 25 minutes away.

    DON’T FORGET

    • Generator (in case your site doesn’t offer electric)
    • Headlamps and Flashlights (tree coverage is heavy so it gets darker faster)
    • Fishing Poles
    • Rain Jackets (it rained almost daily in the afternoon)
    • Cordless Leaf Blower (for removing leaves from slide outs)

    Springfield - Hartwell Lake

Nice well kept Corp of Engineers campground

This is a typical Corp of Engineers campground, well kept with a variety of pull through and back-in sites.  Sites are 50/30/20 electric with water, picnic table and fire ring.  Many sites have a tent pad, are very level packed gravel/sand and well situated with very few having very close neighbors.  Shade is at a premium on some sites due to cutting of pine trees a couple of years ago but almost all are waterfront with an excellent view.  Some sites have direct access to the water allowing boats right at the site and swimming.  The swimming beach is very nice and well maintained as are the playgrounds.  Three bath houses are convenient to all loops, well maintained and clean.  Cell service is very good as is over the air TV with numerous channels available.  The dump station is easy in/out.  Sites 10 through 40 have awesome views of Lake Hartwell.

    Mile Creek County Park

My Favorite Campground in South Carolina

Having lived in South Carolina most my life, I haven't seen it all.. but have seen a lot of it. Mile Creek Campground is a string of 3 islands connect by narrow straights and surrounded by water. It's hard to get a spot here without great views of Lake Keowee and the Blueridge Mountains.

The spaces a are a mix of full concrete pads or gravel sites. We've stayed in several sites and while some are very close together (that RV park feeling), there are many which have lots of breathing room, and things feel more natural. The pics in this review are for site 51, which is on the "3rd island," which is the furthest out and offers the best views. This is a very level concrete spot and we only had to use the electric tongue jack on our trailer to level front to back. Got set up in under 5 minutes.

There is one oddity to some of the concrete sites. Because it's concrete, your fire pit is off to the side. And since most of the sites are raised, your fire pit may be level with the concrete pad, but you can't sit next to it as there is too much slope.

It's a county park and is well maintained. Bath houses are clean. With it having a public day use area with a nice boat dock, you can expect almost every morning @ 6am to hear the diehard fishing folks blasting out of the boat launch area.

We have Verizon and our cell signal has always been 4 to 5 bars on the outside third island.

All sites have 30amp electric and water hookups. Dump station at the front of campground entrance up on a hill. BE AWARE, pulling into the dump station is easy, but the steeper exit will have longer RV's and Trailers dragging their bag end on the asphalt.

We've always felt safe and relaxed here. And though we prefer more dispersed camping with less neighbors, this is still one of the best and most affordable ($25 in off season) places in South Carolina to camp.

We rarely give 5-stars, but due to the awesome views,  trees between the sites and being well wooded & surrounded by water... it really is a very nice place.

From what I can tell, all but two sites are back in. We had no problem backing in our 23'8" (total length) camper in.

Guide to Cedar Mountain

RV sites near Cedar Mountain, North Carolina sit at elevations ranging from 2,200 to 2,800 feet, creating cooler summer temperatures compared to lower elevations in the region. The area's landscape features dense hardwood forests with rhododendron thickets lining many camping areas. Most RV campgrounds remain open from April through October, though some operate year-round with limited winter services.

What to do

Waterfall viewing: 15-minute drive to multiple cascades. Land of Waterfalls RV Park provides excellent access to nearby natural attractions. "This campground is in an awesome location: 25 minutes to downtown Hendersonville, 12 minutes to downtown Brevard, and 10-15 minutes from all the trails at DuPont and Pisgah!" according to William C.

Mountain biking: Access to 100+ miles of trails. The area features extensive trail systems suitable for various skill levels. "You can easily go out for the night in Franklin and explore the rest of the beautiful area," notes Asher K. about staying at nearby campgrounds while exploring outdoor activities.

Fishing: Stocked trout streams within 5-mile radius. Wilderness Cove Campground offers stream access. "The tent camping is not quite 'roughing it': there's pretty reliable WiFi and the bath house is air conditioned and kept very clean," reports Dave, who appreciated combining outdoor activities with campground comforts.

River tubing: $8-15 per person depending on length. Many campgrounds near Cedar Mountain provide access to rivers suitable for tubing. "Staying here you will be super close to some amazing hiking and also the many activities on the Cullasaja river," explains a reviewer about Riverbend RV Park-Campground.

What campers like

Shaded campsites: Natural cooling during summer months. Blue Ridge Falls RV Resort receives high marks for its tree cover. "Beautiful park, lots of mature landscaping and large private, level sites," writes Melissa D. Another camper adds: "We loved this RV park so much, we kept adding nights."

Reliable infrastructure: Even small parks maintain quality amenities. Campers appreciate the consistent quality of facilities at RV sites near Cedar Mountain. "The park is clean and has a more upscale feel. The owners continue to amaze me with all the additions going on," notes Tammy H. about Tiger Stripes RV Campsites.

Community gatherings: Scheduled social events at several parks. Many campers enjoy the social aspects of RV camping in this region. "Gatherings by the pavilion every night at 5. Great community feel," shares Melissa D. about the evening social hours at Blue Ridge Falls RV Resort.

Clean facilities: Regular maintenance at bathhouses and common areas. Rutledge Lake RV Resort gets particular praise for cleanliness. "Bathrooms were always very clean, laundry room was spacious and clean, office staff was kind and helpful," writes Donna H. about her experience there.

What you should know

Mountain roads require careful navigation: Steep grades on some access routes. Some campgrounds have challenging approaches. "The drive down the mountain is a little nerve-wracking for a city boy, and my car's low clearance had me scraping my underside on some rocky bumps inside the property," cautions Dave about accessing Wilderness Cove Campground.

Advance reservations essential during peak seasons: Book 2-3 months ahead for fall. The popularity of Cedar Mountain RV sites means planning ahead. "We have a great stay, the bathrooms are very nice, second only to Disney. The hosts were unbelievably helpful with our last minute after hours reservation," shares Lani N. about Rutledge Lake RV Resort.

Limited site privacy at some parks: Check site maps before booking. Red Gates RV Park reviewer Roberta P. notes: "Sites are quite close together. No great views, but very functional." Consider this factor when selecting a campground if privacy is important to you.

Variable office hours: Check procedures for after-hours arrival. "When office closes you can not take boats, or kayaks out. So when you spend day out site seeing and return office is closed. Can not get Ice, wood or boat rentals," mentions Donna H. about limited office hours at Rutledge Lake RV Resort.

Tips for camping with families

Dog-friendly options: Leash requirements vary by campground. Gatlin Ridge RV Park provides welcoming spaces for pets. "We weren't sure what exactly to expect as it had no reviews. BUT we loved it. Small campground with level sites. Plenty of space and areas to walk our dog. They even have an off lead dog area with water available and poop bags," shares Brenda L. about the pet amenities at Red Gates RV Park.

Swimming access: Pool facilities at select campgrounds. Some RV parks near Cedar Mountain offer swimming options. "Pool was clean," notes Cassondra P. about Rutledge Lake RV Resort, while Mark C. adds: "Pool is wonderful. Usually you have it to yourself never saw it crowded."

Activity planning: Many family attractions within 30-minute drive. The region offers numerous family activities beyond the campgrounds. "There is so much to do in the upstate of South Carolina and this is the perfect spot to rest for the night after sight seeing waterfalls and hiking trails," explains Tammy H. about the convenience of camping in this area.

Connectivity considerations: WiFi strength varies significantly. For families needing to stay connected, internet access can be important. "The tent camping is not quite 'roughing it': there's pretty reliable WiFi and the bath house is air conditioned," mentions Dave about Wilderness Cove Campground.

Tips from RVers

Site leveling: Prepare for varied terrain. Experienced RVers recommend bringing leveling blocks when camping near Cedar Mountain. "We stayed in site 79 which was very level and convenient to the pool, clubhouse and incredibly clean public restrooms," shares Denise M. about Lakewood RV Resort.

Hookup considerations: Water and electric access varies seasonally. "We found out after we arrived that due to the temps we were not supposed to use the water connections," notes one RVer, highlighting the importance of confirming available utilities upon check-in.

Maneuverability assessment: Research access roads and site dimensions. Some RV sites in the Cedar Mountain area have specific size limitations. "The pull-thrus were actually easier to back in to given the one-way road structure, but it was honestly 50/50 either way," explains William C. about Land of Waterfalls RV Park.

Quiet hours enforcement: Most parks maintain strict evening rules. RV campers appreciate the peaceful atmosphere maintained at area parks. "Nice low key resort. Only back in spots but still nice," mentions Mike F. about Rutledge Lake RV Resort.
