The park's glamping options include fully-furnished canvas tents and yurts equipped with comfortable queen beds, premium linens, electricity, and climate control systems. These elevated accommodations provide a perfect balance of outdoor immersion and comfort, with many units offering kitchenettes, en-suite bathrooms, and stylish furnishings. "We stayed in a cute cabin with running water, a stove, and a heater for cold nights! Outside we had a picnic table and a campfire pit. The park itself has amazing hiking with awesome views," shared one guest.

The glamping experience extends beyond luxurious accommodations with access to the region's natural wonders. Stony Brook State Park's safari tents sit near the park's signature gorge trail featuring multiple waterfalls where guests can swim and explore. Canandaigua-Rochester KOA's canvas tent accommodations provide easy access to the Finger Lakes wine country, with several award-winning wineries within a 15-minute drive. The Ridge Campsite offers guided stargazing sessions from private observation decks attached to their geodesic domes. According to a camper, "The views are beautiful, however the scenic areas are at least a 10 minute drive from the campground. The park is massive." Most glamping sites operate seasonally from May through October, with peak foliage viewing in September making it an especially popular time for boutique camping experiences.

      Letchworth State Park Campground

      Unexpected Surroundings

In most states, those without falls like Niagara, this state park would be the pride of the land. With three serious drops in as many miles, the Genesse River winds it’s way through what locals call the “Grand Canyon of the East.” Many states try to make such claims, but this might be the closest any come to actually living up to such. It is stunning!

Along the river this park gives the motorist the distinct feel that she is on a parkway, not unlike Shenendoah, or Blue Ridge. Every few miles the winding pavement breaks out onto a few of the ridges and valley below, before ducking back into the forest of Western New York.

The campground, which is about 15 miles from the major falls area, offers what many come to expect from state parks. There are a wide variety of campsites, all reservable online, which can accommodate lots of different types of camping, large RV’s, small tents, and everything in between. Most, if not all, campsites offer electrical and water is available close by.

The bathrooms are practically luxurious by most camping standards, with single-use restroom/ showers available at all hours. The camp store offered a few grocery items, along with cold drinks, firewood and ice in addition to laundry facilities. Within a short walk were many hiking trails, an old-school fitness path, and a stellar playground where anyone under 9 years of age should get a great workout.

But let’s be honest, we’re not coming here for the campground, it’s the rest of the park that makes the drive worth it. So, check it out and get to know this stunning place first hand and be sure to bring a picnic basket.

      Letchworth State Park Campground

      Amazing state park, crappy campground

The state park is breathtaking. The campground is horrendous. The restrooms were disgusting. The site barely fit our one tent (8man Coleman) even though it was advertised as a two tent site. The camp fire ring had no solid base- it just sat on the grass and fires would not stay lit. The quiet hours were not enforced. Yelling and loud music kept us up until ridiculous hours. I would not rate this as family friendly.

      Sned Acres Campground

Nice place to stay while exploring the Finger Lakes

We happened upon Sned Acres when Curveball was cancelled and had to make lemons out of lemonade. We were welcomed w a fresh loaf of bread and the owners made sure our group was able to stay together on neighboring sites. Out site was nicely shaded and across from the small lake. The showers were hot and the facilities were clean. It is a family campground w quiet hours after 9pm, so consider that when booking.

      Letchworth State Park Campground

      Beautiful place

Letchworth is absolutely stunning. The views are beautiful, however the scenic areas are at least a 10 minute drive from the campground. The park is massive.

There is a huge variation in site sizes. We lucked out and got a large site with privacy and an area for the kids to run around, however the site directly across from us was little more than the gravel pad and fire pit. Some of the sites are right on top of each other. Great for group camping, not so much if you want any privacy.

Only two out of the 8 loops (200 and 700 loops) have updated bathrooms (single toilet with handheld showers in half of the bathrooms). The others loops have older facilities with three traditional toilet stalls and two showers.

We loved our site but would’ve preferred to stay in a loop with the updated bath houses as we have younger children and a tent trailer.

All sites have electricity. Some loops are pet friendly, some are pet free. The camp store has a good selection of necessities, albeit expensive for discount brands. The pool is 4-5 miles down the road from the camping area.

      Would absolutely camp here again.

Ontario County Park at Gannett Hill

      Wonderful!

Great secluded tent camping (recomend numbers 7 and 8), cabins are new and ample beds and space. Camper camping is close to everything, but less privacy. Numerous pavilions that are wonderful for parties or weddings. Stunning overlook that is breathtaking (also great for weddings). Hiking, bike trails, fishing pond, playground, open fields for sports, much more!!! Great for photo shoots, weekend stress getaways etc. I live close by and visit a few times a month.

      Jones Pond Campground

      Nice Secluded Campground

Jones pond has 6 campsites located along a Jeep road, out of the boat launch parking lot. Pets are allowed, RVs can be parked at sites 1, 4, and 5 (if you have a smaller one), and there are no water/electrical hookups. There are two backwoods privies in the campground as well. Fire pits are located at all sites, except for site 3. Sites 3 and 6 are only accessible by foot. All the sites are connected by footpaths. You will need a high clearance vehicle to access site 3 - 6 due to a rough, poorly maintained jeep road. Off of the main road, there is at least two more sites around the pond, however these are poorly marked.

Site 1 is located to the left in the boat launch parking lot. Site 2 is located to the right, just as you start to head down the Jeep road. The first privy has a trail access to the left, just after site 2. Site 4 will be the next open area you come to, on your right. The privy is in the woods on the far side. Site 3 is up the hill, opposite of site 4. I did not realize this was even a site until halfway through the summer. Continuing down the road, site 6 is accessible by foot from a parking spot at the 90 degree turn in the road. If you continue down the road, it dead ends at site 5.

These sites are great for camping, kayaking, fishing (plenty of catfish!), and watching loons, herons, and bald eagles. The sites are located within reasonable driving distance to some hiking trails. St. Regis Firetower is not far away, and can actually be seen from sites 4 and 5! Saranac Lake is a 15 minute drive, and Lake Placid is about 35 minutes.

I car camped at these sites on and on and off for most of the summer. It’s pretty secluded, and usually you will only be packed on summer weekends. For holiday weekends, you may end up with noisy neighbors, but the sites are spaced far enough apart that this usually isn’t a problem.

      Letchworth State Park Campground

      Hidden gem

My husband and I just got our first camping setup (tent). Letchworth was a wonderful first experience together. The campground can be almost 15 miles from the entrance of the park at points, but we just asked someone at the visitors center and found it easily after that. The restrooms are all well kept regardless of being updated or not and the campground as a whole is very quiet. There are very active raccoons and skunks that have been pretty domesticated, so putting away food is very very important. The skunks also are not easily startled. The only downside was a large group of young guys that were being really loud and obnoxious well into quiet hours our last night, but it was nothing my pair of earplugs couldn’t fix. Also probably wouldn’t have even heard them if we were in a camper rather than a tent. Overall, it was exactly what we wanted and needed. We will absolutely be back!

    Guide to Livonia

Situated in western New York's Finger Lakes region, Livonia offers easy access to camping options across Ontario, Livingston, and Monroe counties. The area sits at approximately 1,000 feet elevation with humid continental climate patterns bringing warm summers and cold winters with significant snowfall. Most campgrounds in this region operate seasonally from May through October due to harsh winter conditions.

    What to do

Hiking trail options: At Letchworth State Park Campground, campsites connect directly to trail networks. "The roads, and trails, and lookout points are all well constructed, and flow well. The scenery is remarkable, and there is a lot of informative boards, dedicated benches that provide a lot of interesting history and information," notes Seth S.

Fishing opportunities: The Flint Creek Campgrounds area provides accessible fishing. "We probably would have enjoyed this campground a bit more if the weather wasn't so terrible. The playground equipment is outdated but the kids loved the tires and zip line," shares Sparks N., highlighting the recreation options beyond fishing.

Water activities: During summer months, cool off at the natural swimming areas at Stony Brook State Park Campground. "This park is beautiful and has a unique swimming area- a 'pool' carved from the mountain! There are lots of paths and picnic areas, as well as beautiful hiking trails and creeks to cool off in," according to Kayti D.

    What campers like

Off-season visitation: Letchworth State Park Campground draws visitors year-round despite its seasonal camping. "I love taking visitors here in all seasons but in autumn it is exceptional. I've stayed in a few tent sites and all are wooded and pretty private with your standard basic amenities," reports Amber A.

Private tent sites: Ontario County Park at Gannett Hill offers secluded tent camping. "Great secluded tent camping (recommend numbers 7 and 8), cabins are new and ample beds and space. Camper camping is close to everything, but less privacy," suggests Sarah C.

Clean facilities: The Canandaigua-Rochester KOA maintains high standards for bathrooms and showers. "The bathrooms are very clean and the women working the desk could not have been more helpful," explains Jenise P., who adds, "I'm a birder and my tent site here is next to a little grove of trees where I counted 12 species of birds this morning."

    What you should know

Cell service limitations: Some campgrounds have limited connectivity. At Flint Creek Campgrounds, "don't expect any cell phone service. I've had friends who climbed up on top of their RV and still, no signal. It's out in the middle of nowhere, hard to find but extremely worth it," warns Lela S.

Booking requirements: Popular locations fill quickly, especially during peak seasons. "This is a JEWEL. Book early. Bring your hiking shoes & camera. The gorge is spectacular. Try to get to the balloon fest on Memorial Day - and book a flight if you can," advises Rebecca E. about Letchworth State Park.

Site variations: The Ridge Campsite offers diverse site types. "We spent two nights in June. Campground is large and spacious. Family owned. Large mature trees. Clean facilities. Lots of activities and amenities if you are interested in that," notes Carol M.

    Tips for camping with families

Water recreation: Stony Brook State Park Campground has family-friendly swimming areas. "Affordable, Family friendly, loved the waterfalls. There is natural clay which my children used to make clay pots which air dried on the grass by our playground," shares Dorothy P., highlighting creative opportunities for children.

Playground access: Multiple campgrounds feature play areas for different ages. At Letchworth, "Quiet relaxing atmosphere, lots of hiking trails and family friendly with parks and a pool for the kids to play," describes Lisa M.

Weekend activities: Southwoods RV Resort schedules regular events. "We stayed in August and we really enjoyed the setup and location of all the amenities this campground has. Very nice people from weekend warriors to the seasonal campers," reports Rich L.

    Tips from RVers

Leveling considerations: Prepare for uneven terrain at some locations. "Only downside is that the sites aren't so level as some sites are far from level. Also make sure to bring plenty of leveling blocks as some sites are far from level," advises Jonathan G. about Ontario County Park.

Seasonal timing: Most glamping near Livonia, New York operates during specific months. "We stayed at Southwoods while visiting the Rochester, NY area and exploring attractions in the area. The campground is about 20-25 miles from downtown Rochester and located in a quiet rural setting surrounded by farmland," notes Nancy W.

Site selection: For large rigs, entry paths can be challenging. "Driveway getting in and out is a little tight for big units, definitely have to swing wide. Sites are very big and clean has plenty to do with multiple fishing ponds, swimming pool and playgrounds," shares Nick O. about The Ridge Campsite.
