    Abel Mountain Campground

    Great Mid Week Adventure

My husband and I are seniors and spent 3 nights, Tuesday to Friday in June on site 51. Abel Mtn. Campground was easy enough to find. We have a 21' travel trailer and took advantage of the full hookups that most of the sites provide, including our first time using cable TV. As everyone else who reviews this place said, the owners are the first pleasure you find there. There's a heated pool, strong WiFi at your site, tons of clean river sites, immaculate rest rooms with an accessible ramp and lots of showers. For activities, you can hike on trails across the foot bridge and fish in many places along the river. They recycle everything possible and even provide composting of plant based waste. We have rarely found a returnable bottles and cans container so finding that and even composting is a notch well above the competition. Being the middle of June, there were no kids around but the photos and the two playgrounds tell us kids must love the place. Sites are back-in and very level on gravel pads. We highly recommend the place. Oh and a word to the wise, you will hear a train go by somewhere and the whistle will wake you up but no worries, it's all part of the ambiance.

    Lake Bomoseen KOA

Fun, crowded, and running out of steam

This is a solid, family-friendly campground. It has the standard amenities plus some fun extras (arcade, mini-golf, boat rentals, etc.). However, all amenities are in worn shape. The playground is approaching dangerous, for instance (metal pipe sticking out of sandbox?) and the arcade was largely broken (ate a lot of quarters). Granted we were there for the last weekend of the camping season, but these appear to be longer term issues.

The camp store was great. Service was helpful and friendly.

Odd $10 CASH deposit for gate key that no one asked for. No ATM on site to get cash…

The sites are spacious enough, but are very close to each other. Zero buffer between neighboring sites means encroaching slide outs.

Cell services on ATT and TMobile were nonexistent. Campground WiFi is a joke (less than 1mbps).

Beautiful views of lake down by the dock, but campsites have no view.

Easy access to several great hikes and local restaurants.

    Lake Placid/Whiteface Mountain KOA Holiday

    Amazing

This is a Class A 5⭐️KOA Campsite! We arrived late and Jox & his sweet wife helped us manuever our RV into our pull through site B05. We were super close to the office, store, snacks, laundry & activities. Our site was a “ dirt” site that had a picnic table and fire pit with full hook ups. This campsite has concierge service that will help you out with any of your wants/needs. Great site in nature’s finest.

    Lake Bomoseen KOA

    Many Features But Road Noise

The Campground has a nice staff, a very well appointed general store, laundry, arcade, marina with boat rentals, mini theater, and indoor mini put. Most of the sites are wooded and nice. Somehow we managed to get the one pull through spot that was at the end and harder to get in. I was surprised how much road noise we heard inside of our trailer. The internet speed fluxuates and was slow to unusable our last day. I could not get the cable TV working. All in all it is a nice Campground and most of it (the back in spaces) look nice and wooded. I would stay here again despite the small inconveniences but I would definately pick a different camp site. Again, you will hear some road noise.

    Abel Mountain Campground

    Quiet and relaxing

I spent a couple of days at Abel Mountain with my dog, and we both had a nice stay. The campground is quiet and relaxing with plenty of space and a beautiful river that kept my dog entertained for hours. I was at site 72, an easy pull-through with plenty of shade.

Wifi was decent, cable hook-up did not provide a clear picture, and Verizon cell service was minimal.

Close to Randolph for groceries and take-out. The Barn gas station complex off of Exit 4 was perfect for fueling-up before getting back on the road.

Excellent military discount - 25%, so the stay was similar in cost to staying on at a military base's Famcamp.

If I'm ever back in Vermont, I'll probably stay here again.

    Shelburne Camping Area

    Very nice owners...lovely campground!

We have a “big rig” 40’ 5th wheel with 4 slide outs. Called them same day from Capital Region Welcome Ctr in NY, about 3 hrs away (below Albany). They had a full hook up, pull-thru corner space for us. Offered parking for our truck right across lane on separate site. Super nice owners! Went over COVID questions and after hour check-in instructions. We came in just after it got dark. Loved town of Shelburne. Awesome little shops and great, well stocked little local grocery store. Authentic Italian restaurant in grocery store parking lot...picked up delicious strombolis. Due to COVID, mostly call ahead/pick-up or drive thru for many things...incl. delicious coffee in town at Village Wine & Coffee and AWESOME cider donuts at Shelburne Orchards! Only a 20 min drive into downtown Burlington. Took narrated tour on Ethan Allen ferry on Lake Champlain. Shopped in artsy town. Extended our stay for TWO extra nights. Will def come back. Didn’t need to use, but noted that bathrooms were immaculately clean.

    Wilmington Notch Campground

In the heart of the High Peaks

Wilmington Notch Campground is owned and operated by the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation. There are approximately 50 sites available, all on level campground and within access of Both bathrooms and shower facilities. Fire pits and picnic tables available. About a mile down the road from the high falls gorge tourist destination and a quarter mile from the base of whiteface lodge ski resort. There is an accessible trail from the back of the campground to an amazing waterfall on the west branch of the Ausable River and plenty of spots to trout fish/swim. A mile down the road is flume falls trails, which leads to a great swimming hole and various height choice cliff jumping. This is a very clean and quiet campground, one of the best in the high peaks region for primitive camping

Guide to Lewis

RV parks near Lewis, New York operate during different seasonal periods with varying outdoor activities available throughout the year. Most campgrounds in the Adirondack region open in May and close by mid-October due to harsh winter conditions. Several sites offer direct access to water features, with locations like Davey Falls ADK providing private waterfall access for tent campers.

What to do

River activities: At Lake George Schroon Valley Resort, guests can enjoy tubing on the Schroon River. "Right on the beautiful Schroon River and only fifteen minutes to Bolton Landing shops and restaurants," notes Jeffrey B. The resort provides direct river access through a designated beach area.

Gem mining: Spacious Skies Adirondack Peaks offers gem mining activities popular with families. "Being a fan of gems, I definitely bought an embarrassing amount of dirt for the gem mining. Got some good finds, so worth it!" shares Krys M. The activity provides a unique alternative during inclement weather.

Historic sites: Fort Ticonderoga sits just a few miles north of Brookwood RV Resort, offering historical exploration. "Ft. Ticonderoga and Lake George are right around the corner," mentions John, who stayed at the resort. The fort features historical reenactments during summer months.

Hiking trails: Several campgrounds provide direct trail access. At Davey Falls ADK, visitors appreciate the "private waterfall, hiking trails" as noted by Keith D., who described it as an "amazing secluded creekside spot." These primitive sites require advance planning as facilities are limited.

What campers like

Privacy between sites: Many campers appreciate the space between camping spots at Brookwood RV Resort. "Sites were really wooded, quiet, level, and spread out," shares John. The resort maintains natural buffers between sites, enhancing the camping experience.

Clean facilities: Bathhouses receive consistent praise at several locations. "Clean and well-kept. A beautiful well kept bath house and a small but well stocked store," notes Alan B. about Smugglers Notch RV Village. Most campgrounds update their facilities annually.

Pool access: Swimming pools provide relief during summer heat. "I will say the heated pool was a big plus!" mentions Kasey M. about Lake George Schroon Valley Resort. Pools typically operate from late May through early September, with some offering extended hours during holiday weekends.

Natural water features: Many sites offer creek or river access. The "beautiful pond" at Iroquois Campground & RV Park received praise from Shelly, who noted the "peaceful environment" during their first camping experience in a motorhome.

What you should know

Cell service challenges: Internet connectivity varies significantly. "We got crappy cell service, and the camp wifi was spotty," reports John about Brookwood RV Resort. Similar issues exist at Iroquois Campground where "Wifi at campsite was inconsistent and unreliable. Had to work from rec center and pool which was ok but not what we were told," according to Kirsty W.

Seasonal operations: Most RV parks near Lewis close by mid-October. Brookwood RV Resort operates from "May 15-October 15" while Iroquois Campground runs from "May 1 to Oct 1." Advance reservations become essential during September foliage season.

Highway noise: Some campgrounds experience traffic sounds. Lake George Schroon Valley Resort has "noise from the Northway within earshot," according to Jeffrey B., who also mentioned "loosely enforced quiet hours" and "noisy seasonal campers who insist on blasting their music."

Water conservation: During dry periods, restrictions may apply. At Brookwood RV Resort, "there's a drought and they're on a well, so water conservation is essential," according to Jean C., who visited during water-restricted periods.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly activities: Spacious Skies Adirondack Peaks offers entertainment specifically for children. "The kids loved the gem mining and train rides!" shares Gayle S. Their train ride operates weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Playground access: Several campgrounds maintain play areas. Lake George Schroon Valley Resort features "a newer playground which my kids loved," according to Kasey M. Most playground equipment receives annual safety inspections before the camping season begins.

Pet policies: Dog-friendly sites have specific requirements. "Husband and I took a trip with all 3 pups and I couldn't even tell you who had more fun!" mentions Krys M. about Spacious Skies Adirondack Peaks, noting that "the doggos and husband absolutely loved being able to walk the beautiful trail."

Safety considerations: Water features require supervision. Jeffrey B. observed concerning lifeguard behavior at one location: "sitting down in a regular chair with a table with an umbrella between her and the pool, face down in her phone with one hand, holding her sunglasses up with her other hand, while 3 small children were sliding and playing unsupervised."

Tips from RVers

Site surface types: Many RV parks in Lewis maintain gravel or dirt pads. Beth R. noted a "gravel site" as the only drawback to an otherwise "beautiful site" at Brookwood RV Resort that included "full hookup (sewer, water, 50 AMP)" that was "level" and "shaded."

Navigating tight spaces: Some older campgrounds have limited turning space. Rick G. described Iroquois Campground as "dated but nice" with "sites somewhat small and tight but there are some larger sites." The review mentioned "roadway a little rough but overall ok."

Maintenance considerations: Heating systems may require advance testing. One camper reported issues at a yurt accommodation: "got a bit cold in the early morning, so we turned on the heat. It blew dust, filled the entire yurt with a burning smell and caused my partner to use her rescue inhaler."

Winter storage options: Several RV parks near Lewis allow seasonal parking. Kasey M. observed at Lake George Schroon Valley Resort that "most of the campers in the campground seem to be weekend warriors who leave their campers on premises to enjoy them on the weekends."
