Awesome Primitive Spot on Private Land

My buddy and I were looking for a campsite for a quick overnight stay before a bike trip around the Adirondacks, and this spot was a perfect fit. Coming in late after driving all day, we unfortunately didn’t get to meet Rich in person. He did however give us good directions to navigate the narrow driving path in the dark to reach the pond camping area, and even had a large two room tent already set up that we were able to use - a convenient and kind gesture! The old school bus was a fun perk to check out in the morning as well. Most state ran parks in New York close up before the middle of October, and this is a great option for an off season camping spot in the area. Thanks Rich!

    Delta Lake State Park Campground

    Delta Lake State Park

Delta Lake State Park sits at the foothills of the Adirondack Park, just outside Rome, New York. Pretty and well-kempt, Delta Lake is a nice option for those looking to stay close to home and within proximity to civilization. You can enjoy the great outdoors, while only being a few miles away from a restaurant or grocery store.

The campground isn‘t the best I’ve experienced, a bit on the crowded side-similar to a woodsy suburb- but this could have been distinctive to Loop A where I stayed. I stayed in site 35 and was intermixed with all the campers and RV’s, so it got a bit noisy. Not that restful, secluded experience I typically go for, but I should have planned further in advance.

However, what the park lacked in terms of its campground, it totally made up for in its beach, swimming and picnic areas! This place was awesome for hosting a birthday party for my niece and relaxing at the beach/ day facilities. They have plenty of picnic tables, charcoal grills, a huge beach and locker rooms. This is really a great place to spend a day with your family!

    Cooperstown KOA

    Nice Park

This park is located approximately 12.5 miles from downtown Cooperstown and is set in the quiet rural countryside of New York. The mature trees make for beautiful scenery in the fall. There is a mix of sites varying from tent, RV, rental trailers, and camping cabins/cottages/lodges bringing the total number of sites to 120. Back-in and pull-thru sites are available. Site types include full hookup, water and electric, and no hookup with prices varying depending upon site. You can choose between 30/20 or 50 amp electric service. Interior roads are gravel and some site pads are gravel while others are grass.

The park is nicely terraced and all the sites are level. Patios were a grassy/dirt area with a picnic table and fire pit. Our site (#41) was a pull-thru but there was no way we could drive our 45’ motorhome forward out of the site because of a large tree and narrow roads. So we ended up having to back out. The free wifi worked well as did our Verizon 4G phone and hotspot. We picked up a dozen or so television channels with our antenna. The park does have a fair amount of trees that would interfere with roof-mounted satellite dishes so you would have to pick your site carefully. But, there are some 30 amp and no hook-up sites that are clear. This is a typical KOA with lots of amenities including a swimming pool(which was closed for the season when we were there), a playground, volleyball court, basketball court, jump house, pavilion, recreation room, bicycle rental, and horseshoes. Showers, restrooms and laundry are also present and clean. There is a propane filling station. While there is no fenced-in dog park there is a pet walking area. The surrounding area is pretty rural and the closest town (Richfield Springs– which is very small) is five miles away and where you will find restaurants, gas station, grocery store, and more. A few miles from the park is a creamery that has a café.

Approximately five miles away is Glimmerglass State Park which was great for hiking and kayaking Otsego Lake. There is a also a historic house at the park that you can tour and the country’s oldest covered bridge. Cooperstown is a little over twelve miles away from the park but well worth a trip. Not only is Cooperstown home to the National Baseball Hall of Fame but it is a charming downtown well worth exploring. Other nearby attractions include The Farmers Museum, Fenimore Art Museum, Hero’s of Baseball Wax Museum, Glimmerglass Opera, and Cooperstown Brewing Company.

    Cooperstown KOA

    Quiet and unassuming

This campground is your typical KOA in a pastoral setting. Being off the beaten track, and not actually in Cooperstown, it is very quiet except for the herd of cows across the street. Sites are decently sized, fairly level, and have good views of the surrounding hills. The WiFi is very good-- modern and surprising speeds (60Mbps) and cell phone for AT&T was decent. Staff is friendly and the store had the essentials. It's about 20 minutes from Cooperstown and the Baseball Hall of Fame so, naturally, there is a baseball theme. One annoyance is the water pressure seemed to drop on occasion and one night was low for quite a while due to the pool being filled. We had to wait to do dishes until the next morning (not a tragedy). However, we did get a few hours warning via text message, which was nice.

You can't park any vehicle over 20' in Cooperstown, but you can park for free (even a motorhome) in the Yellow Lot and take the Trolley into town for$2.50. Super convenient!

    Perfect little get away

This was the first KOA I ever stayed at and I was very impressed. The bathrooms were very nice and so were the showers, which were separate from the bathrooms. The pool, along the dog park, bounce house and swing set were well taken care of. The camp site was on grass and staff made it a point to check on us and invite us to the community bonfire they were doing that night. They also had WiFi and laundry at this campground. I would stay at this campground again.

    Cooperstown KOA

    Clean, friendly, quiet

Most people that stay here are in RVs but we were tent camping and they have a nice wooded area with fire pits and a view of the rolling hills. Beautiful! This is our second Memorial Day weekend stay here and we chose it because the facilities are clean, the owners, staff and other guests are friendly and people respect the quiet hours which was really appreciated as we had a couple early mornings.

    Caroga Lake

    Overall, nice.

We spent a relatively quiet long weekend here on loop F 97, which is a bit removed from the main campground. It was a bit noisy on Saturday night but nothing disturbing.  This site also is bordered by a small stream so expect mosquitoes and the occasional visit from wildlife (we had raccoons at our site each night, so kept food in the car). Each site has a fire pit and a picnic table.

There is a store just outside the entrance that sells ice, wood, groceries.  There are quite a few roadside firewood sellers that are reasonably priced.  The fire pit does not have a narrow grilling grate so bringing something to ensure your food won't fall through the widely spaced bars is helpful.

As I said, our site was out of the main population, but it was a bit of a hike to the restroom which is something to keep in mind if you've really got to get to a bathroom first thing in the morning.

There is a Walmart about 10 miles away in Gloverville, so keep this in mind if you are planning on picking up essentials when you arrive.

There are no sites with electric.

    Caroga Lake

Good facility, lacks much to do

We were there 4th of July weekend, and the park was fully booked. Very friendly rangers, electricity in bathrooms, hot showers, and a nice dishwashing and recycling center.

The campsite connects to the beach area and there is boat rental, but no pets allowed in the beach area.

For us, a drawback was a lack of any hikes connecting to the campsite.

    Caroga Lake

Simple but well cared for campground

I stayed here over a holiday weekend and found that the campground was simple but has everything I needed. The campsites were spacious for two tents, a 4 and 2 person and there was space to have a run for two dogs.

The bathrooms and showers were typical of other campgrounds and not overly large however they were cleaned regularly and the water was hot which was great for the end of a long day.

It is also conveniently situated for a variety of nearby hikes.

    Good for a weekend getaway

Site F -90- there is a slope on the site with limited privacy. I suggest avoiding this site but there are quite a few other sites that looked nice and a stream flowing through.

    Glimmerglass State Park Campground

    Small Campground Close to Attractions

Upon arrival we were surprised by the limited amount of sites, especially after coming from larger state parks. It wasn't necessarily a bad things for it to be small, but it seemed isolated from the beach, hiking trails, and other unique experiences. Our site(#31) faced directly to site#6 from the other loop. If you are traveling with another group, I would recommend booking these two sites. There is a small, hop-able, stream that runs in between them. Verizon cell service worked well and I was able to work remotely with video calls from our RV. We do have a Pepwave BR1 Max Pro to boost cell signal. We would stay here again to visit Cooperstown and Ommegang.

    Wonderful Experience

Facilities were clean and well taken care of. Everything was as listed. Staff were kind and helpful at check-in.

Idyllic setting in the fall when the leaves are changing

This campground is at the north end of Otsego Lake less than 10 miles from Cooperstown. It's a great base for exploring Cooperstown. The Baseball Hall of Fame, Abner Doubleday Field and the nearby Ommegang Brewery are my favorite spots in Cooperstown, but there's such a diverse set of activities:

Water-based activities such as canoeing, kayaking, sailbaoarding

    • Glimmerglass Opera

    • Farmers' Museum

    • Fenimore Museum

    • a couple more breweries and a distillery

    • and on and on

The park is a good place to stay during the fall colors season and also on Hall of Fame Weekend in late July, but book early!

We've camped here in a tent near Beaver Meadows

Friendly clean and lots to do

In July we took our new camper to Glimmerglass State Park. This was our 2nd time at the park. It is clean great bathroom and showers. Very friendly campers and plenty to do at camp grounds and around the area.

Sites are very easy to get into and well maintained. Water available and electric. The lake is pristine and wonderful to swim in. Nice beach. Also a place for showers and a bathroom and small place for food and extras things you might need for camping. Trails for walking.

With Cooperstown 15-20 minutes away no lack of things to do for adults and kids. Great restaurants also. No reason to ever get bored.

    I will be back.
