    Old Forge Camping Resort

    Old Forge Camping Resort, NY

My family and I have been visiting Old Forge Camping Resort for 20+ years. This is one of the most family friendly resorts and a perfect weekend getaway for those living in other parts of New York State. The visitors/welcome center has everything you need, including firewood, sweatshirts and homemade breakfast sandwiches. There is endless RV camping, tent camping, cabins and cottages available. Make sure you book far enough in advance. We typically book 1 year prior for the cottages.

The bathrooms and grounds are well maintained and accessible from wherever you are in the park. There are hiking, biking and running trails galore. A volleyball court, playground and even a lake to fish or rent paddle boards. There is a bus from the campground that takes you to enchanted forest safari, which is a great way to avoid parking. Would recommend 100%

    Adirondack Mennonite Camping Associates Inc

Sleepaway camp, family camp, day use

Beaver Camp (or, officially Adirondack Mennonite Camping Assoc.), is a classic summer youth sleep-away camp on Beaver Lake. Sleeping in cabins with bunk beds, swimming, canoes, and a high ropes course, gathering around the campfire to end the day- Beaver Camp has it all.

Weekend and week long programming for youth and families, or site rental of cabins and platform tents is available, as well as day use access to the beach and high ropes course.

This camp is a great way to access a beautiful area in a way customized for your family!

Winter is the In Off Season

Close to skiing. Snowmobiling is the real reason to come here. Dry cabins or cottages with bath and shower are available. Snowmobile trails are accessible from the campground and seasonal rentals are available. The staff will help you with snow removal and we have even had Valentine Weekend with chocolates and Champagne delivered to our cabin. Call them and plan a winter weekend with no worries.

    Wellesley Island State Park Campground

    Fine camping 1000 islands

NYS may get tons of flack for its politics and politicians. However they're doing it all correct in their state parks. This park is amazing. The views of the ST. LAWRENCE River are amazing. You're around some of the best fishing in the country. We'll. Manicured campground. It's huge by the way. Tons of playgrounds and swimming. Always clean everything. Always friendly staff and campers. Inexpensive I mean really inexpensive. You're 10 min from Alexandria Bay. Boldt castle, singer castle, you can go on river cruises and view these beautiful islands and homes on them. Watch the cargo ships cruise the channel. Electric and water on many sites. Cottages cabins and primitive sites available. Hiking trails all over the park. There's a marina, boat launch and boat rentals. Docking. You can even day trip it use public grills and still enjoy everything the park has to offer. We have so much fun here. It's hard to pack and go home.

    Southwick Beach State Park Campground

Great part with tons of beach

There is TONS of beach to explore at this little State Park in New York. I used to visit here as a kid years ago because my grandparents owned a cottage on the lake. Since they sold it, visiting Southwick is the next best thing. Lake Ontario is an amazing lake to be on and the water is pretty warm in the summer time. the waves don't get too big, so it is very safe for kids. Southwick itself has great camping spots right next to the beach. It is a little pricey if you only want to visit for the day, $8, but you can get a tent spot for $18 which is comparable to other state parks. Showers are available, and there are some short trails that are good for running or probably cross country skiing in the winter. There is also a sizable playground near the beach that is great for the kids.

    Kring Point State Park Campground

    Waterfront sites with amenities

I am tent camping and found my site (105) to have a couple of relatively level areas to choose to set up my tent on. This site is on Goose Bay, but the sites across the road are on the St Lawrence River just a few hundred feet away. Water nearby, brand new bathrooms with showers and two kitchen clean up stations are a short walk away. Every site has a fire ring with a grill and picnic table. Loons are calling, a mink scampered by on the flat rock shore 15’ away with a fish in its mouth. This place is quiet and peaceful. I will 100% return!

    Sun Outdoors Association Island

    Island Getaway

We stayed at Association Island on Lake Ontario in Henderson, NY, for a three-night excursion to celebrate my daughter’s end-of-9th-grade and start-of-summer. We’re so glad we did!

When I made the reservation, this campground was a KOA, but has since changed owners and dissociated. They’re owned by Sun Outdoors who was willing to honor the reservation, site request, and discounted pricing.(Thank you, Sun Outdoors!)

The approach by way of a single lane bridge to the island is beautiful. Once on the island, it’s obvious that this is a great place for retreat. Surrounded by Lake Ontario, it’s a secluded and idyllic setting for a RV campground.

Our site(#G07) was on the sunset-side of the island and the last of the row beside a walking trail. It was wooded, roomy, and has full hookups, a fire ring, and picnic table. I could probably have fit another RV in the site and still had space to stretch.

The sites all seem to be well maintained, the campground has paved roadways, a marina for small boats, swimming pool, and ice cream shop. We didn’t explore off the island and didn’t use the bath or shower facilities.

Each of our interactions with staff was warm and friendly. We especially appreciate this when staying anywhere.

We met a bunch of people who’ve visited the park for several consecutive years- all of whom told us there have been many upgrades and improvements since the ownership change.

Except for the 9-hour drive through three states, we can’t wait to return. We paid a KOA-discounted rate of$88 per night plus a$25 site lock fee. We stayed in our 37’ Class-A motorhome.

Guide to Black River

Cabin accommodations near Black River, New York offer outdoor enthusiasts access to the St. Lawrence River and Lake Ontario shorelines. The region sits at the northern edge of New York's Tug Hill Plateau with elevations ranging from 300-600 feet. Summer temperatures typically range from 65-80°F, creating ideal conditions for water activities during peak season from May through October.

What to do

Fishing along shorelines: Kring Point State Park Campground cabins provide direct access to prime fishing spots. "Great fishing from almost every part of this park. Two beaches to swim. Almost every campsite is on the water," notes one visitor who appreciated the water access.

Island exploration: At Wellesley Island State Park Campground, cabins serve as a base for exploring the Thousand Islands region. "We camped here with one of our children, and had a wonderful time canoeing, fishing, and spending time together!" writes a family who enjoyed water activities.

Historical site visits: Cabins at several parks offer proximity to regional attractions. "You're 10 min from Alexandria Bay. Boldt castle, singer castle, you can go on river cruises and view these beautiful islands and homes on them," explains a camper who used their cabin as a starting point for regional explorations.

What campers like

Waterfront views: Cabin sites at Swan Bay Resort offer premium riverside locations. "Our waterfront pull-IN site was a level concrete pad and gravel with FHU and everything worked great. Oh, and the best part was our view of the St. Lawrence River with passing ocean liners and lots of migrating birds," describes one visitor.

Diverse accommodation options: 1000 Islands Campground provides several cabin types to match different needs. "Extremely clean, well run and has the most options for all kinds of camping. The grounds are spotless, as are the bathrooms and showers," reports a camper who appreciated the variety and cleanliness.

Family-friendly atmosphere: Cabin areas typically include communal spaces for socializing. "We've only camped the electric loop up on the hill across the Street from the rest of the park. It is spacious and restroom buildings are kept up. Nice new children's playground. Nice hiking trail as well," mentions a visitor who found Westcott Beach State Park well-suited for families.

What you should know

Site availability challenges: Many waterfront cabin sites require booking well in advance. "It's so nice it's hard to reserve, because people grab it nine months in advance!" warns a Kring Point visitor who struggled to secure a prime location.

Seasonal considerations: Most cabin facilities operate from May through October, with peak times during summer holidays. "We arrived on July 5th for 5 nights. Our original site was listed at 55', but there was no way our 43' camper would fit, nor make the tight turn into it," reports a camper who found some site descriptions did not match reality.

Weather patterns: Sun Outdoors Association Island and other waterfront locations experience significant winds. "Our site(#G07) was on the sunset-side of the island and the last of the row beside a walking trail. It was wooded, roomy, and has full hookups, a fire ring, and picnic table," notes a camper who found an ideal, sheltered cabin location.

Tips for camping with families

Look for playgrounds: Select cabin sites near recreational facilities. "We have only camped the electric loop up on the hill across the Street from the rest of the park. It is spacious and restroom buildings are kept up. Nice new children's playground," recommends a family who prioritized access to play areas.

Consider cabin privacy levels: Some sites offer more separation than others. "Just didn't expect the plots to be so small with no privacy. Thought we chose a plot in an area with tents only, but there was a massive camper right beside us with noisy people," cautions a visitor who had difficulty with neighboring sites.

Scout swimming options: Bedford Creek Marina & Campground and similar facilities offer water recreation suitable for children. "Wonderful staff wonderful setting just always have a wonderful time there. I love everyone riding around on golf carts," mentions a regular visitor who enjoyed the family-friendly atmosphere.

Tips from RVers

Utility connections vary: Check specific hookup details before booking cabin sites with RV hookups. "Great camp. Easy in and out for big rigs. Right on the St. Lawrence River. Many amenities to include 3 bay R.V. wash as well as car wash," notes a visitor who found facilities well-designed for larger vehicles.

Park-specific regulations: Some facilities have stricter rules than others. "Clean, well maintained property with lots of sidewalks around the property. Quite dark at night, but that was a bonus as we were able to see the Milky Way!" explains a visitor who appreciated the dark sky viewing opportunities at Swan Bay Resort.

Site selection priorities: Choose cabin locations based on specific needs. "It's an easy mile from I-81 and just 10-minutes drive to Alexandria Bay downtown. The staff was great— friendly and helpful," explains an RVer who valued both convenience and service quality.
