Best RV Parks & Resorts near Fernley, NV

Desert Rose RV Park in Fernley provides full hookup RV sites with 50-amp electrical service, water, and sewer connections. The park features concrete pads with small grass areas between sites, though spaces are positioned relatively close together. Within 30 miles, Sparks Marina RV Park offers year-round RV camping with level concrete pads, artificial turf, and shade trees at each site. Both parks accommodate big rigs with pull-through options, though internal roads at some locations can present tight turns for larger motorhomes. "Sites are near each other throughout the park. We really didn't see where any sites were better spaced than others," noted one Desert Rose visitor, highlighting the typical spacing constraints common in the region's RV parks.

Several RV parks in the area feature clean laundry facilities, showers, and on-site stores with basic supplies. Cell service varies by location, with Desert Rose reporting 2 bars on Verizon while Gold Ranch Casino & RV Resort in Verdi offers stronger connectivity with speeds up to 20 MB/s. Highway noise can be significant at Desert Rose, particularly for sites closer to the interstate, with one reviewer mentioning "the worse road noise we've experienced after two years on the road." Most parks are pet-friendly with designated dog areas, though some charge additional pet fees. Dump stations are available at all full-service RV parks, and propane refill services can be found at select locations like Silver City RV Resort, which remains open year-round.

    Silver City RV Resort

    Convenient location with great amenities

Great location if you want to be near Costco and the capital city.  Great views of the Sierras and the Carson valley.  Sites are narrow, about twice the width of your RV, and separated by chain link fencing.  But all sites are perfectly flat, paved pull-throughs; easy in, easy out parking.  Also electric, water, sewer hookup, cable and strong wifi and cell service.  Sites are gravel, but the campground has nice grassy dog parks, clean bathrooms and laundry, and well-stocked store with propane refill.  Pool and fishing pond were closed but looked great.  We were there in early April 2021; with our binoculars we could see skiers at the top of Heavenly Mountain ski area!

    Sparks Marina RV Park

    Nice place to visit

Nice level concrete pads for travel trailers, they also have pull through sites for diesel pushers. Both 30 and 50 amp sites along with cable on the pedestals, make sure you bring your own cable to connect to the pet store or they’ll charge you $4.95 for a cable cord. Large clean bathrooms, with a laundry facility that is open 24 hours a day. Upon checking in, staff will guide you to your site and assist you in backing in to your campsite or guide you through the pull through site. They explain all the rules which are typical and show you the location of your pedestal and your sewer hook ups. Wi-Fi is strong and if there are not a lot of people at the campsite you can stream to a television which is the first time in a long time. Unfortunately when the weekends come in the campsite gets full Wi-Fi signal does degrade quite significantly. The bathrooms are well-maintained and constantly cleaned, staff is very friendly and they have a small camp in store for you to pick up small supplies. If you need anything larger there is RV country which is located basically across the street at legends which is a rather large shopping mall area. There are plenty of places to go out and eat if you would like such as outback steakhouse, Olive Garden, BJ’s and of course there is a plethora of fast food restaurants available in the area as well. The campsites are flat and level and have a picnic table with artificial turf next to your campsite. I’ll just say that the sites are very cozy. Very quiet camp area staff is very friendly and helpful

    Sparks Marina RV Park

Great Urban RV Park, best in Reno Area

The Reno area is our home base, we are full time RVers in a 35 foot long fifth wheel.  We come to Sparks Marina RV Park whenever we are in town visiting family, and we typically stay for at least a month or sometimes two months.  We have visited ALL of the RV parks in the vicinity, and in Carson City to the south.  By far this is the best place in the area.  The sites are not at all outdoorsy, it is more of an urban feel, with a concrete pad and fake grass, but each site has a tree which is nice for shade in the hot summers.  The circulation works well and if you have a pull through you have two parking options for your tower/toad vehicle.  The spaces are long enough for the larger rigs, and are wide enough for all of the slides, even on both sides, and for awnings to go out.  Staff here is EXCELLENT.  We are always treated well, and we like how they are always there to help.  The office has some supplies for sale, and the laundry room and bathrooms are the CLEANEST we have ever seen.  Facilities are modern.  Rec room has ping pong, and pool, a large screen tv as well.  There is a small pool and hot tub, which gets a lot of use when open.  They do not allow tents.  They have a pretty robust WiFi system, and all cellular options are available in the area, so internet is not a problem.  Prices are higher than other options but the location is excellent, staff is excellent and they do a good job of security as well.  We feel safe here, and it is always clean.

    Desert Rose RV Park

Nothing Special but a Good Short Termer to Visit the Reno Area.

The RV park was easy to find and enter. Check in was smooth with a very friendly staff, and we were escorted to pull through site 150 with FHUs for our three day stay. The utilities are nicely placed on the middle of the pad. Site 150 is a premium pull through. The only thing that makes this site premium is the concrete pad, small grass front yard, and shade trees; as there is no picnic table, patio, or fire pit. Sites are near each other throughout the park. We really didn’t see where any sites were better spaced than others. We received a Good Sam discount for the nightly rate, which basically paid for the lodging tax. Then there’s a $2 resort fee and $3 per pet fee ($6 for our two pets) with other charges if you bring additional people and vehicles with you. The WiFi was average for a park this size. Cable did not work, but they were trying to get the cable company to come fix it. However, we got a fair amount of OTA channels, with two prime channels. We got 2 bars on Verizon. There’s an interesting mix of full timers, seasonal, and short termers. I state interesting as many of the permanent party live along the South to West perimeter. Most take pride in their sites but as good as the park sites look towards the front it degrades in too many sites looking like, well, a “trailer park”. There’s a very clean and well maintained facility with a Rec Room, showers and nice big laundry. We like the rule where a site can only use two machines at a time. Unless you want to trek out into the desert where the Quads and ATVs go, there are no trails here to walk your dog, but there is a small fenced, off-leash dog area, which was nice. We thought this park would be more of a destination park and for us, it was not. This park had the worse road noise we've experienced after two years on the road. Our sound machine could not drown out the internal park muffler rumbles of locals going to work that started about 4:00 AM, the highway noise all day plus most of the night, and the 5:30ish AM train. We stayed here three nights based on reviews from other websites. Our opinion overall, this place is nothing special. However, it is a good overnighter and could be an option to explore the Reno area.

    Bordertown Casino RV Resort

Well maintained, clean CG, friendly helpful staff

We are full-timers and have a 36 ft Class A with a Cherokee Trailhawk tow. Since we had been boondocking for a while, we stayed for 3 nights in site 41 in mid May as a waypoint and an opportunity to dump, fill, do laundry, etc., as well as visit the casino. The CG is medium size, with a narrow strip of nice grass and a table(no chairs) between the sites, which are quite close- slides out, about 8-10. The CG is quiet, except for some road noise on US 365. The internal roads are a little narrow, although not too bad, but some of the turns are rather tight. All but a couple of sites are pull-throughs. AT&T service was fair with 2-3 bars of 5G and speeds up to about 20 MB/s. The CG WiFi was just ok, depending on your needs, with speeds up to 0.5 MB/s. Starlink had speeds up to 20 MB/s. We had DISH coverage on all of the western satellites. We didn’t try any OTA channels with our fixed omni antenna. As mentioned by others in their reviews, the sewer connections are slightly recessed, centered in concrete bowls; it was a challenge to get a good connection with a right-angle connector.

    Silver City RV Resort

Beautiful setting below snow capped mountains

This RV resort is situated in the middle of everything! Close to Lake Tahoe, Reno, Virginia City and more! Spaces are wide and recent upgrades will have nice vine covered privacy fences between each site. Showers were clean. Sites were level and pull through. Had a nice store onsite and large laundry rooms. The only draw back to this park is the traffic noise. It was very loud at times but did die down in the evening. Would stay here again.

Horrible - NOT KID FRIENDLY! Not for families.

A rude cranky old lady will yell at your kids for playing on the grass. They won’t let you stay to long if have kids. This is NOT a family friendly rv park. It’s meant for long term elderly. Which would be nice if they were nice. I also called ahead to make a reservation and they said they had plenty of room and just come in. When we should up they were packed and we just paid to dumb and leave. As a family unit this is not for you. If you’re retired and just looking for a stay or long term stay it’s good to go. Just don’t bring your kids. At least the gentleman in the office was super nice. He was the only good thing I can speak of. Of course the cranky lady went and complained to him. All because our kids were playing on the grass. Pffff.

Guide to Fernley

Fernley sits at 4,160 feet elevation in Nevada's high desert, about 30 miles east of Reno. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 90°F, while winter nights can drop below freezing. Local RV parks feature access to both urban amenities and outdoor recreation, with the Truckee River and Lahontan Reservoir providing water activities in this otherwise arid region.

What to do

Mountain biking trails: 10 minutes from Sparks Marina RV Park offers access to nearby trail networks. "This is the model RV Park, everything is laid out nicely, large spaces, pool, car shows, and a wonderful staff," notes Gary B., who appreciated the park's convenient location for outdoor activities.

Fishing opportunities: Pyramid Lake Marina and RV Park provides direct lake access for anglers seeking the unique Lahontan cutthroat trout. "We stayed for 3 days on the beach next to the picnic leantos. We were the only ones camping on the beach. Very quiet. The beach was very clean and orderly," reports Denis J., highlighting the uncrowded fishing access.

Winter skiing: 75 minutes from Carson City at Lake Tahoe resorts. A Silver City RV Resort visitor noted, "With our binoculars we could see skiers at the top of Heavenly Mountain ski area!" This makes Fernley area RV parks suitable for winter activities.

Visit Virginia City: Historic mining town 30 minutes away. "From here we visited the rib cookoff in Sparks, Civil war days in Virginia City and several other areas during our stay," mentions Les W. at Gold Dust West RV Park, describing the convenient location for area attractions.

What campers like

Clean, well-maintained facilities: Most parks in the region prioritize cleanliness. "Exceptionally clean facilities," noted a Gold Dust West RV Park reviewer. "The bathrooms are clean with 4 showers, 4 toilets, and 4 sinks, all clean and tidy," adds Trena G.

Convenient highway access: Parks near Fernley provide easy on/off access to major roads. "Very convenient off 395 and friendly staff and very clean facilities. Paved sites and picnic areas," reports Lai La L. at Bordertown Casino RV Resort, emphasizing how simple it is to access the park.

Security features: Several RV parks near Fernley maintain secure environments. At Gold Ranch Casino & RV Resort, a visitor appreciated the "good security, private bathrooms and showers, pool and hot tub, very clean. Access to trails."

Laundry facilities: Essential for longer stays, most parks offer laundry rooms. "The laundry room is decent size with 8 washers and 8 dryers, everything is in working order," notes a Gold Dust West Casino RV Park guest.

What you should know

Age restrictions: Some parks limit older RVs. "There is NO mention of an age restriction on their website. I specifically searched it before I made the reservation. But they WILL take the reservation online, take your money, then call to check the age of your rig," warns Leah T. about Sparks Marina RV Park's 10-year rule.

Overflow lots: During peak periods, expect potential overflow parking. At Shamrock RV Park, "They didn't disclose to me that the overflow is just a parking lot where their warehouse is. There's no sewer hookup; you can dump at the end. You have to share the water hose with other RVs during your stay," explains Summer C.

Seasonal rates: Winter typically offers lower pricing. "We appreciated reduced winter rates after October 2 ($40 for a back-in site)," notes one Gold Ranch Casino & RV Resort visitor.

Highway noise levels: Traffic noise varies by location and site. "Road noise can be loud at times but did die down in the evening," mentioned a Silver City RV Resort visitor about highway proximity.

Tips for camping with families

Check age restrictions for amenities: Not all facilities welcome children. "Kids must be 18 to enjoy the spa even if accompanied by adults, had a great club house with a pool table but kids must be 14 to play," observed a Sparks Marina RV Park visitor.

Verify family-friendly atmosphere: Some parks cater more to adults. "A rude cranky old lady will yell at your kids for playing on the grass. They won't let you stay too long if have kids. This is NOT a family friendly rv park," warns Emily R. about Bordertown Casino RV Resort.

Consider Pyramid Lake for beach access: Offers space for children to play. "Camping here was great. Many different spots from able to use the marina or at the boat launch still on pavement or just right down on the beach next to the water," describes Juan, noting the variety of camping options.

Bring shade structures: Limited natural shade at most parks. "Only biggest issue is there is no trees. So no shade. Bring your easy ups," advises a Pyramid Lake Marina visitor.

Tips from RVers

Level sites common: Most RV parks near Fernley feature flat camping pads. "All camper pads are paved and although the park is on a slope, all sites appear level," notes a Gold Ranch Casino & RV Resort visitor.

Watch for sewer connection challenges: Design varies between parks. At Bordertown Casino RV Resort, "the sewer connections are slightly recessed, centered in concrete bowls; it was a challenge to get a good connection with a right-angle connector."

Cell service varies by provider: Coverage strength differs by location. "AT&T service was fair with 2-3 bars of 5G and speeds up to about 20 MB/s. The CG WiFi was just ok, depending on your needs, with speeds up to 0.5 MB/s," reports Ray & Terri F. at Bordertown.

Internal road navigation: Some parks have tight turns. "The internal roads are a little narrow, although not too bad, but some of the turns are rather tight," warns a Bordertown Casino RV Resort reviewer about maneuvering larger rigs.
