Best Cabin Camping near Frenchtown, MT

Several cabin camping options surround the Frenchtown, Montana area, with varying levels of amenities and comfort. The Missoula KOA Holiday offers furnished cabins with electricity, heating, and access to shared bathrooms with hot showers. Lolo Hot Springs Campground provides cabins within walking distance to natural hot springs, with one visitor noting, "Cabins are available and there is a lodge and bar also on site." Kitchen facilities vary widely, from basic fire pits with cooking grates to cabins with microwaves, mini-refrigerators, and coffee makers. The Missoula KOA and Granite Peak RV Resort maintain on-site stores with basic groceries, firewood, and camping supplies. For more extensive shopping, Missoula offers full-service grocery stores approximately 15-20 minutes from most cabin locations. Visitors planning extended stays should bring cooking utensils, food storage containers, and cleaning supplies, as these items are rarely provided. Forest cabins like the West Fork Butte Lookout require guests to pack in all supplies including drinking water, as no running water is available on site.

    Lolo Hot Springs Campground

Lo Lo Hot Springs is Hot!

Very nice campground across Hwy. 12 in Montana. Campground is ill defined so it feels more like camping out in the woods. Fire pits with picnic tables. 30 amp electric with water. Dump station on site. $38.50 per night or $25.50 with senior discount. Cabins are available and there is numerous tent sites. Pretty nice campground. Across the highway is Lo Lo Hot Springs. Very rustic with a $8.00 entry fee. Inside group tub and outside pool. There is a lodge and bar also on site. We spent 5 days in our 5th wheel at LoLo.

    Missoula KOA Holiday

    New Favorite . . .

This place is on my shortlist for favorites for my week long getaway with my daughter who is 5. To be honest I was a bit concerned after reading a couple reviews describing the place. But hey, we all have bad days, and if I can read 90% positive vibe from a review I will check it out. I will say This place is an oasis that is in a manufactured home area that is very nice. Once you are in, it is a pure KOA experience. So far no company consistently does better than OK always across the board.

Could not be happier with the customer service, and the staff that work here. Just simply top notch. They represent the true spirit of the KOA campgrounds. they lead you to your campsite, they will deliver wood for you, they monitor the pool at all times, make it easy to rent a little bike, and Wednesday through Saturday they have ice cream socials.

I was a bit surprised that I did not see more children here. They have all the amenities that they have in Billings. I think some of the other reviews do not paint a quality picture of this place from a child’s eye. This is my daughters favorite place. From the bike rental to the playground, putt putt golf, swimming pool (2 Adult hot tubs - very clean).

Of course as Tenters the big thing I look at is where I am pounding in my stakes :-) and the grass here in Missoula is perfect. They have several very creative approaches to tent sites. The one that I am staying at has a tent circle, five sites in the round, facing outward, fenced on each side with a picnic table, stand up barbecue, fire pit that is grated, picnic table, running water, electricity, and nice grass. I wish more campgrounds had this creative approach. Everything is well spread out and segregated between cabins, centers, and RV’s.

They even have two really nice teepees in the center of the campground. They are super deluxe and the next time I come here I will be staying in one of them. See the photos.

The campground store is the best stock store of all the KOA’s that I stayed in on this trip. They have everything from ice cream sandwiches to souvenirs.

The facilities are well-maintained and very clean. I’d like the cypher locks on the bathrooms/showers for safety. The driveways are well-maintained, they have a painted bike path for riders. Overall this was just wonderful!

If you have a couple days here I would suggest a 40 minute drive to the National Bison Range. The kids will love it!

PS - My daughter wanted me to add that they have three very large bunnies that roll around the campground. She loves them.

    The Sanctuary Campground

    BEST VIEWS AND HOT SHOWERS!

The have lots of campsites, group sites, small cabins, and big cabins!  We rented a big cabin for the 6 of us!

They have restrooms with hot showers! There were lots hiking trails and ATV riding trails!

The views looking at the Rocky Mountains were breath taking!  There was a community area where we could hang out and have a bonfire!

And the price was so reasonable!

    Whitefish-Kalispell North KOA

    Family friendly, not really “camping”

If you’re looking for family friendly, this is your spot. Lots of kids activities. Free breakfast. Washrooms, showers and laundry facility available. Scenically, it’s not very pretty. Sites are very close together with little privacy. Our spot was so small we couldn’t fit our tent, picnic table and fire pit in it. We had to park somewhere else, and move the picnic table our. If you prefer exploring nature and quiet, this isn’t the park for you.

    Camp Paxson

    Amazing!

Sone of my favorite summer memories are at this campground. Primitive cabins with electricity and bunk beds but nothing else. Dock to jump off of. Trails all over seely lake. An area with benches surrounding the fire and a stage. Easy to get to.

    Back In Time

Take a trip back in time with this camp and up to Hogback where you can dig for Montana fossils. Lots of good hiking, no bathrooms but fire pits and creek and firewood available!! So fun camping here with our family!

    The Jack Saloon

    Nice and peaceful

We stayed at one of the cabins, small but with everything that you need (bed, coffee maker, bathroom with toiletries, mini fridge and microwave). There are several cute hiking trails with gorgeous scenery. Also, the saloon offers good comfort food and beverages.

    Polson-Flathead Lake KOA

    Beautiful campground

Beautiful spot with great views of Flathead Lake. The RV sites were nice and spacious and level with their own patio and chairs. They also offer cabins and tent sites. Some tent sites have water and electric. I was car camping and I had a strange campsite by the cabins for a tent but I couldn't park at the site. There was a small lot close by so that was fine but it also seemed pretty far from the bathrooms. The bathroom was very clean and I loved the private showers. The laundry area was spacious and clean. They also had several brochures on local activities. The wifi didn't seem to reach the tent sites though.

    Ekstrom's Stage Station Campground

    Pretty and quiet

$42 for fire pit and picnic table! No privacy between the spots. That said, it’s a very beautiful setting with big trees, and very quiet. Nice playground for the kids . Showers and bathrooms looked like they had been clean to, but overall were in need of a deep cleaning. The shower curtains were on the toilet stalls… Not sure how you keep those clean thoroughly.

Restaurant was really nice and tasty. Nice people. But they are only open till 230 even though their website says they are open for dinner. I was hoping to stay one more day because it was so peaceful but we needed to get going on our trip.

Guide to Frenchtown

Cabin camping near Frenchtown, Montana offers access to the Clark Fork River which flows through the valley at approximately 3,100 feet elevation. The region experiences distinct seasons with summer highs averaging 85°F and winter temperatures frequently dropping below freezing. Most cabin facilities operate seasonally with limited winter availability due to mountain snow conditions.

What to do

Paddle the creek: Near Lolo Hot Springs RV Park & Campground, visitors can enjoy creek activities. "Great little campground across the road from the hot spring pools... There was an access spot to the creek/river," notes Michael B., who visited recently.

Hike nearby trails: The area around The Jack Saloon offers hiking opportunities within short distances of cabin accommodations. "There are several cute hiking trails with gorgeous scenery," according to Daniella M., who appreciated the outdoor options combined with cabin amenities.

Experience mountaintop views: For those seeking elevation, lookout cabins provide unique perspectives. The area offers clear visibility of surrounding landscapes with seasonal accessibility considerations. "We only saw some deer which were still fun to observe... this is a feasible route to get here to see the winter wonderland," reports Megan K. about her winter cabin experience.

What campers like

Private bathrooms: Many cabin guests value dedicated facilities. "The bathroom was very clean and I loved the private showers," notes Angela G. about her stay at Polson-Flathead Lake KOA, where cabin options include various bathroom configurations.

Water access: Cabin sites with water features rate highly among visitors. "We ended up booking here on the 4th and 5th of July and had a great time camping along the river... Site seven also seemed really large compared to other as there was a large tree between the next site where we tied up a hammock," explains Joshua C. from his riverside cabin experience.

Dry cabin comfort: Simple cabin options without utilities still provide essential comforts. "This cabin is so lovely, my dogs had a blast playing in the stream. I was happy to have a big real bed!" reports Carolyn H. about her stay at The Holmestead - Dry Cabin, highlighting how even basic accommodations can exceed expectations.

What you should know

Seasonal considerations: Most cabin facilities operate primarily from late spring through early fall with reduced winter options. "We stayed at Beavertail Hill Campground about 30 minutes East of Missoula, Montana... I did not give this campground five stars because it lacks a shower house and feels more like a place to stay the night, it doesn't seem to have much to offer for longer stays," explains Matt S.

Noise factors: Some cabin locations experience noise from transportation corridors. "The train mentioned in another review is a pretty big deal breaker though honestly. The tracks are right next to the wall in spaces. And during my visit on a weekday it was about every 2 hours," warns David H. about his camping experience at Beavertail Hill State Park Campground.

Heating requirements: Mountain elevation means cabins often require heating, even in summer months. "Stayed in June and needed to keep the fire going all night for warmth. At the time there was plenty of roughly pre-cut firewood on site, but bring your axe as the one on hand was plenty dull," advises Amy D. from her mountain cabin experience.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly amenities: Select cabins with recreational options designed for children. "Playground, pool, mini golf, clean showers, restrooms and laundry! It was great!" shares Desiree D. about family facilities at Missoula KOA Holiday.

Wildlife viewing: Facilitate animal encounters as part of the cabin experience. "PS - My daughter wanted me to add that they have three very large bunnies that roll around the campground. She loves them," mentions Craig L., highlighting unexpected wildlife encounters that delighted his family.

Teepee alternatives: Consider unique shelter options beyond standard cabins. "The tipis were a lot of fun to sleep in! The river trail was beautiful to walk," recalls Miranda M., indicating that alternative structures can create memorable family experiences.

Tips from RVers

Site selection strategies: Choose cabin locations strategically based on surroundings. "We loved the site we were in (9). It was along the water and opened up to a grassy area and the river. The park is not far off of the interstate. While the traffic can be heard, it was not distracting," explains BarbDave B., providing specific site recommendations.

Connection limitations: Plan for potential internet challenges. "The wifi didn't seem to reach the tent sites though," notes Angela G., indicating connectivity varies significantly across property areas, including cabin locations.

Supplemental facilities: Consider cabins with access to additional amenities. "Amenities: Mini golf, Hot Tub, Pool, Basketball court, Volleyball Court, Dog run, Laundry room, Small market/Gift shop and Small 'Sip, Snack, Shack'. Very Friendly staff," details Aaron L., highlighting the full range of options available beyond just cabin accommodations.
