    Knob Noster State Park Campground

    Cute, Small Quiet

We camped the last weekend in September picking a late reservation where kayaks were available for our first tent test run were our main goals, which the site met. Kayaking was wildly available, due to the small lake and difficult launch, we can see why, but still very enjoyable. Site was very sizable for our tent, as most are suitable for campers. Lots of even ground, with decent distance. Facilities could do with some updates, but there were a number of bathrooms on site, spaced so no site seemed far, including the vault toilet and a lot of people masking up while going into bathrooms as well, which was appreciated. Current host was super nice and helpful to first timers. The tiny market has a number of random items, including a collapsible fork which was the only thing we hadn't overpacked, and wasn't overpriced. Fire pits on our site were adjustable, making grilling food easier to control.

    Beautiful lake views

Stayed on the A loop and had a beautiful view of the lake! Nice to be close to bathrooms and have a gorgeous view. Friendly staff, great price, and campsites have a fire pit with a grill, and a picnic table. We’ll be back!

    Knob Noster State Park Campground

    Well maintained campground

Well maintained campground with nice, level concrete pads. Sites are spacious. Bath houses (there are at least 2) have 4 unisex shower pods that are clean and have good pressure. There are no sinks or mirrors, just shower and bench. I did not go into bathroom, which was a separate building. The only reason I took off a star is because my site (13) was adjacent to a fenced off sewer lagoon which did emit slight odor. If I came again I would choose another site.

    Trailside RV Park

    Decent

Good: New management seems friendly and helpful. Laundry facilities acceptable. ($1.25 to wash)
Propane fill on site. Pool and restrooms closed during my stay, appear nice enough.

Bad: Noise. Mostly from the highway, but also trains and air traffic. Situated between two neighborhoods, the highway, and an RV dealership. Did I mention noise? WiFi is laughable.

    Phone/internet service is low average.

Overall, adequate. Nothing too bad (except the noise), and nothing to rave about.

    Great Camping

Stayed here for three nights. All spots have plenty of shade when we walked around. Shower house and bathrooms were clean and nice. Lots of things to do such as boating, kayaking, paddle boarding, fishing and swimming. Fire pits were even nice with an attached grill grate.

    Kansas City East-Oak Grove KOA

    Great Overnight Campsite

Stayed here for one night after driving down from Nebraska. Great place to set up for the night, clean bathrooms, a nice fire pit, and plenty of room to set up a tarp for the rain. Not too much privacy as there’s not very many trees around and the sites are close together but otherwise a great campground!

    Kansas City West-Lawrence KOA

    Great get away

Camp ground was very clean and the staff is very helpful! Drive you right to the campsite so no need to have to look for it. Pizza delivery a d wood was a nice touch. Laundry room was nice and easy to use. Everything is very close in the campground. Close to downtown

    Nicely shaded spots.

We stayed for two days in spot #92. Many of the spots have a good amount of room, but there are some that looked tricky to level. 92 was fine for leveling. The only downside is that the spots, while larger, are fairly open (in the area around 92). I prefer a spot that has a tucked away fire pit and table, but this worked OK for us. Bathhouses were clean and there is a great 3.75 mile paved loop around the lake if you have dogs that enjoy long walks.

    Lake Jacomo - Fleming Park

    Quick Questival Camp

We are camping here while doing the Cotopaxi Questival Adventure Race. It's a very nice setting in a Grove of trees atop a hill. Both electric and primitive sites are available. The bathrooms are the nicest campground bathrooms I've ever used - large, clean, and not communal, so you get a sink, toilet, and shower all to yourself. This campground is in close proximity to the lake, trails, and many other outdoorsy diversions!

Guide to Unity Village

Camping opportunities near Unity Village, Missouri include both developed campgrounds and basic tent sites within 30-40 minutes of the area. The region features rolling hills surrounding Smithville Lake, with elevations ranging from 800-900 feet above sea level. Summer temperatures average 85-95°F with high humidity, while spring and fall camping seasons offer milder conditions in the 60-75°F range.

What to do

Fishing at Smithville Lake: Camp Branch Campground offers direct lake access with electric-only sites for anglers. "The bike trail is about 3 steps away from our site. Only downside is it is only electric hookups," notes camper Savannah T.

Kayaking at Lake Jacomo: Fleming Park provides paddling opportunities with rentals nearby. "We are camping here while doing the Cotopaxi Questival Adventure Race. It's a very nice setting in a Grove of trees atop a hill," mentions Fawn W., who appreciates the campground's "large, clean, and not communal" bathrooms.

Hiking at Weston Bend State Park Campground: Scenic trails lead to Missouri River overlooks. "Weston Bend was everything I could hope for. The camp site were small and compact but it was nice," says Spencer P., who specifically recommends campsite 26.

What campers like

Private shower facilities: Lake Jacomo - Fleming Park offers individual bathroom units. "The bathrooms are the nicest campground bathrooms I've ever used - large, clean, and not communal, so you get a sink, toilet, and shower all to yourself," writes Fawn W.

Proximity to Kansas City: Kansas City East-Oak Grove KOA provides convenient access to city attractions. "Close proximity to the interstate does come with some traffic noise. Many retail options within a short drive," notes Renee H., highlighting the trade-off between convenience and quiet.

Kid-friendly amenities: Smiths Fork Recreation Area offers family activities with full hookups. "Perfect for families with young children. Smaller park, very friendly hosts," reports Robin R., who appreciates the family-oriented atmosphere.

What you should know

Noise levels vary significantly: Trailside RV Park experiences considerable highway sound. "Noise. Mostly from the highway, but also trains and air traffic. Situated between two neighborhoods, the highway, and an RV dealership. Did I mention noise?" warns Kris M.

Terrain challenges: Camp sites at Lake Jacomo may have drainage issues during rain. "It was an ok place to put up a tent. But a lot of rain runoff on tent sites," notes Chad Z., while Nicholas G. adds, "Not a great spot for tent camping. Ton of road noise and most grassy areas are sloped."

Seasonal closures: Watkins Mill State Park Campground maintains year-round operation, but some facilities close seasonally. "The swim beach has been closed because of excessive vegetation growth," reports Jason C., indicating that water activities may be limited during certain periods.

Tips for camping with families

Site selection matters: Camp Branch offers quieter family areas away from party spots. "We have started staying here last couple of years. Nice big spots with electric only. It is quite a ways to shower house but much quieter than other campgrounds on Smithville lake. More family friendly," advises Robin R.

Look for biking opportunities: Smiths Fork Recreation Area features paved trails for children. "There is a really nice walking/riding trail that goes all through the park! This is a family favorite!" shares Steven N., highlighting the safe recreation options.

Playground access: Crow's Creek Campground provides play areas near campsites. "The roads and trails are nice for scooters and bikes. Fairly close to the water and playground; within walking distance," notes Brittnie T., emphasizing the convenience for families with young children.

Tips from RVers

Full hookup availability: Smiths Fork Recreation Area offers complete services year-round. "We don't stray very far from the KC Metro (50 mile radius). Of everywhere Smith's Fork is the only one (so far) that offers Electric (30 & 50 amp), Water (2) and Sewer at every campsite. At just $30 per day it is a steal!" recommends Don M.

Leveling requirements: Kansas City East-Oak Grove KOA may require leveling blocks. "Easy access to Interstate and pull through sites were long enough for our truck and 32' trailer without having to unhitch," notes Roy T., though he mentions the proximity to neighboring sites can be tight.

Weather considerations: Heavy rain affects campsite conditions throughout the region. "Hard to give an accurate account for our stay due to it raining basically the entire time. When it wasn't raining the sites were nice and spacious and relatively level. Made for easy set up and break down," shares GW C. from Lake Jacomo.
