Best Cabin Camping near Pine Island, MN

Cabins near Pine Island provide rustic to modern overnight accommodations with varying amenities. Chester Woods Park offers cabin rentals with electricity and comfortable sleeping arrangements, while Whitewater State Park features camper cabins that remain open year-round. Most cabins include basic furnishings such as bunk beds, tables, and chairs. Hok-Si-La City Park provides cabins with lake views and nearby beach access. The wooded cabins have what seems like full-sized mattress bunk beds built into the wall."

Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. Rochester-Marion KOA offers standard KOA-style cabins with electricity and basic amenities, while Aefintyr provides more secluded cabin experiences. According to one camper, "You can use a slow cooker and a coffee pot in the cabin. Otherwise you can cook over the fire as well." Firewood is typically available for purchase at campground offices or through self-service stations. Nearby towns offer grocery stores and supplies for longer stays, though many visitors bring essentials with them to avoid trips away from the campground.

    Whitetail Woods Camper Cabins

Great camper cabins for spring and fall

Each cabin has four sleeping spots: 2 bunk beds, and the 2 couches convert to beds. There's a heater inside, but no AC, which makes these the most suitable during the spring and fall.

There is a fire ring outside of each cabin, along with a table. No cooking is allowed inside the cabins, which can make things rough if the weather isn't cooperating.

We enjoy hiking around the trails, but we primarily go to decompress, lounge around, and play games, read, etc. There's WiFi available, but depending on which cabin you reserve signal will be took weak for real usage. Same for mobile data -- don't plan on cell service here.

The bathroom facilities are nice. Outside water is shut off during some parts of the year, so bring your own drinking water if you are camping close to/during winter.

Cabins are accessible for those who need special assistance, which is nice. The only caveat is I don't recall there being an automatic door opener to the cabins.

While the cabins are close together, noise is not a factor once you're inside.

It's difficult to get reservations, so I recommend trying to start booking 120 days in advance, which is the farthest out you can reserve. For example, as of this review (early June), all weekends are booked for all cabins.

    Whitetail Woods Camper Cabins

    Great Cold Weather Option

Super simple camping cabins. They each have 4 spots and have contactless entry as you get sent a code to use. There is no cooking inside the cabin so you have to use the fire ring outside. Shower facilities are really nice and match the cabins. Plan ahead as these are hard to come by.

    St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park

    Top Shelf

Beautiful, spacious, trees but open. Nice trails, clean restrooms, level sites. No alcohol allowed and no pets! Fire rings, sturdy picnic table. Electric and water.

I made reservations online and when we arrived they said I had reserved a place at Elmo Lake which was 20 miles away. Same 2 county facilities but different campgrounds. Oops my bad. Different addresses!

    Nugget Lake County Park

    Camper cabins

This is a really nice campground. The camper cabins are really nice. They have two rooms, a sleeping room and a front room. The sleeping room has 2 bunk beds (4 beds.) The front room has a mini fridge, coffeemaker, toaster, microwave, and a futon. The firepits are well taken care of. It is usually empty when you arrive. There is no.swim beach. The trails and playgrounds are really nice. The bathrooms are heated. The showers are pay showers.

    Eagle Cliff Campground and Lodging

    Perfect set-up

This campground has it all. Situated right along the Root River next to the bike trail. They offer kayak, canoe and tube rentals and shuttles. They also have bike rentals.

This facility is clean and very well kept. Even the shower rooms are very nice and sanitary.

This is by far my favorite camping spot. I would recommend this place to any and everyone. Family orientated and pet friendly.

    Hiking and Yurting

I have stayed multiple times in the hike in camp sites and also in the yurt! The hike in sites were beautiful with a view looking over the St. Croix River. It was a shaded site perfect for our hammocks, it was quiet and very secluded. The Yurt was very cool! Very comfortable beds and plenty of space for the 6 of us to stay and sleep. The fire pit and picnic table wasn't far from the yurt which made it nice to not have to walk too far since we camped in the winter. I highly suggest the expeeience of the yurt!

    Chester Woods Park

    Great weekend spot!

Chester Woods is a county park just east of Rochester, MN. It has a campground and man-made lake (created when Bear Creek was dammed for a flood control project) with hiking trails, a horse trail, picnic shelters, a beach, and a playground. The campsites have nice, soft ground for tents, and electrical outlets are available. It can get noisy on the weekend, but the sites are nice along the edge of the campground.

The lake offers the opportunity to fish for panfish, catfish, and bass. There are a lot of submerged trees from before the Creek was dammed that provide good habitat in deep water, and there is also good shoreline structure and weed beds. There is a fish cleaning house next to the campground which has electric lighting, but no running water.

    Aefintyr

Aefintyr is a gem in the Whitewater area!

    Aefintyr has it all!

A beautiful cabin, hike-in glamping or bring your own gear.

I was able to stay in the cabin for a couple nights with two friends. The cabin was cozy even during winter. The space was perfect for us.

I also brought my own gear and camped up on the bluff. It was so fun to socialize in the shared space around the fire and play games.

If you are up in the bluff, be sure to wear good shoes for the hike up.

I love that each site has it's own fire pit with fire wood.

The Whitewater area is so beautiful, I enjoy hiking in the area.

    Looking forward to going back!

Guide to Pine Island

Cabin accommodations near Pine Island, Minnesota offer camping options in southeastern Minnesota's rolling hills and deciduous forests. The area sits at approximately 1,200 feet elevation with seasonal temperatures ranging from below-freezing winters to warm, humid summers in the 80s°F. Several campgrounds maintain cabin facilities that remain open year-round, providing alternatives to tent camping during colder months.

What to do

Explore wildlife exhibits: At Oxbow County Park, visitors can access a small zoo with native wildlife. "The zoo on the grounds is small, but still fun. The interactive area as well as several play equipment areas have activities at the zoo and plenty of hiking trails," notes one camper. Multiple rescued animals call this zoo home.

Hike river trails: Whitewater State Park's trail system offers diverse terrain from riverside paths to prairie overlooks. "Trails are super nice and well maintained, many different levels of hikes going along the River to hikes up on the prairie tops. Some nice overlooks," according to a visitor. The park features clearly marked paths suitable for various hiking abilities.

Fish local waters: Chester Woods Park provides fishing opportunities in its man-made lake. "Fishing was great," reports one camper. The lake contains submerged trees creating habitat for panfish, catfish, and bass. A fish cleaning station is available adjacent to the campground.

What campers like

Well-maintained facilities: Chester Woods Park receives praise for cleanliness. "The bathrooms and showers were pristine clean and close and easy to walk to. The beach was great and clean," reports one visitor. The park maintains year-round upkeep of common areas and restroom facilities.

Secluded cabin locations: Aefintyr offers more remote cabin experiences. "Beautiful campground with great amenities available. The hike to the site is steep but worth it once you get up there," notes a camper. Their cabins require a short hike to access, providing additional privacy.

Wildlife viewing: "The campground is well maintained and right by the river. There is a Bison herd and elk and deer too," states an Oxbow County Park visitor. The park's natural setting attracts diverse wildlife beyond the zoo animals, particularly along riverfront sites.

What you should know

Seasonal considerations: Whitewater State Park maintains year-round availability. "We had a reservation on the North Shore, but switched it to Whitewater when we saw the ice and snowstorms in the forecast. A water spigot was there, too, since the water and bathhouse are off/closed for the winter season," reports a winter visitor. Winter campers should check which facilities remain operational.

Booking requirements: Rochester-Marion KOA requires advance planning. "The staff were very friendly on arrival. Allowed us to pick a preferred spot which is nice," notes a camper. Reservations become particularly important during summer weekends when cabins fill quickly.

Firewood availability: "Firewood is available for sale with an 'honor' box, but the bundles the day were were there were $6 and the small bundle was basically small kindling. Not ideal for a winter fire," cautions a visitor. Most parks sell firewood on-site with varying quality and pricing.

Tips for camping with families

Child-friendly attractions: Oxbow County Park offers multiple youth activities. "There is a free zoo and interactive area as well as severally play equipment areas. They have activities at the zoo and plenty of hiking trails," reports a family visitor. The park features playground facilities near many campsites.

Beach access: "The beach was great and clean," notes a Chester Woods camper. Several parks maintain swimming beaches with designated areas for younger children. Some locations charge additional fees for beach usage beyond camping costs.

Cabin sleeping arrangements: Most cabins feature bunk-style sleeping accommodations. Family cabins typically include multiple sleeping surfaces, though arrangements vary by location. Campers should bring their own bedding regardless of cabin type.

Tips from RVers

Hookup variations: Rochester-Marion KOA provides full-service sites. "Very nice, convenient stop off the highway," notes one RVer. The campground maintains electric, water, and sewer hookups at most sites with 30 and 50 amp service options.

Dump station access: "They do have a fresh water filling station and a dump station," reports a Chester Woods visitor. Many parks without full hookups still provide central water access and dump facilities, though locations and hours may vary seasonally.

Site sizes: "It's an established campground, but well kept. We stayed on the office side of the road. The other side has newer sites & the pool," mentions a Rochester-Marion KOA visitor. RV site dimensions vary significantly between campgrounds, with some accommodating larger rigs while others have length restrictions.
