    Addison Oaks County Park

    Huge, clean, and great fun!

We stayed in one of the group sites and it was beautiful. Less tree cover than we would have liked, you're basically in a giant grassy field, but it was perfect for a large group. we did have to share a pavilion with a group of older campers (celebrating a 90th birthday. Our group was there to celebrate my 30th) but it turned out perfectly as they did early dinners and went to bed in their campers.

The beach is nice, a little small, but clean and fun (would be nice if your pets were allowed to swim also).

The only real negative I have is that for each group site there is a single fire pit. This made cooking, sitting around the fire, and many other things quite difficult. There IS a large charcoal grill that can be used, but if you're doing separate meals, it will be hard to coordinate.

    Lakeport State Park Campground

    Close To Home

I love the fact it is close to home. We live in Fort Gratiot so when I have a work weekend we can just hook up and pull the camper up to the lakeside campground and enjoy some peace. The sites are very spacious in size and a few provide full hookups. There is some hiking available and the beach is right there to enjoy. Staff seems friendly and we never had any issues with them or any of the campers on site. We enjoy the peace and quiet of the wooded area and a nice campfire, so this is a nice place for us.

    Lakeport State Park Campground

    Great little park...

We had a blast tenting with some friends in September!  While the evenings got cool, the fire pits were great, the other campers were all friendly to us, and the facilities were more than adequate.  Our site was level and clean.  We loved the beach area even though it was too chilly for a swim, the ambiance of smelling campfires while watching the rolling waves crash in was great!  Several great places for a hammock as well!

    Port Huron KOA

    Glamping

Tons to for kids, multiple pools including a zero entry, jumping pillow, ice cream stores, old west town hayrides, train rides($), multiple parks, and next to small water park. Campground is peaceful during week- due to cabins can be very roudy and crowded on weekends. Owner is very strict but tons of staff always on site to help.

    Addison Oaks County Park

    Friendly? Spacious lots of activities

We stayed in area A in a water/electric site. It was a Boo Fest weekend. Lots of socially distanced activities for the kids and a scavenger hunt (finding clues on signs in park to solve a mystery). There 26 miles of bike trails and hiking. Many in park are paved. Also a disc golf course. Sites in our area were spacious.

Park was clean, guests well behaved, staff helpful. We will be back

    Port Huron KOA

    Total insanity

Hundreds of unsupervised rug-rats swarming like locust over all the roads without looking where they were going. Boom boxes blaring rap music in competition among sites. Crowded sites so close to one another it was hard to tell were one started and another ended. Would rather sleep in the median of a highway than stay here again.

    KOA Campground Emmett

    Small and friendly

The smallest KOA we have been to but it was a nice change. The new owner helped us back into our site - he was very nice and enthusiastic. Pizza delivery on a rainy night was a nice touch. We will definitely come back when it is warm enough to swim in the lake!

Guide to St. Clair

Glamping near St. Clair, Michigan centers around Lake Huron's shoreline where campers can find unique accommodation options ranging from canvas structures to yurts. The region receives approximately 34 inches of annual rainfall with summer temperatures averaging 75-85°F during peak camping season from May through October. Winter camping is limited with most glamping accommodations closing after the fall season.

What to do

Rock collecting along Lake Huron: At Lakeport State Park Campground, the shoreline offers excellent opportunities for finding unique stones. One visitor shared, "This beach is mostly rocks and I have to say that I have found the most Petoskey stones (State of Michigan Stone) and pudding stones (a conglomerate of rocks with jasper sticking onto the rock)."

Mountain biking on maintained trails: Oakland County Addison Oaks features well-maintained bike paths throughout the park. A reviewer noted, "Addison Oaks is a campground that features hiking and mountain biking trails, campground, cabins, disc golf course, and a lake for boating. The trails are well maintained and heavily trafficked."

Fishing in stocked lakes: The calm waters at Ruby Campground provide good fishing conditions right from the campground. A camper mentioned, "Ruby is a fitting name for this gem. This is the most wholesome cute campground I've ever been to. It has a family owned summer camp vibe and the owners are very kind and helpful."

What campers like

Multiple swimming options: KOA Campground Emmett provides various water activities for different age groups. A visitor commented, "My daughter and I had a great time here. We went during the week so it was not packed. Nice workers help with anything asked. Food from the snack shack was good."

Privacy at certain sites: Lakeport State Park Campground offers two distinct camping sections with different atmospheres. As one camper explained, "The northern section seems to be the louder section and the southern section seems to be the more laid back quiet section. The south section has more of a woodsy outdoor feel while the north section has more of an open space, smaller lots, crowded feel."

Concrete pads for easier setup: Several glamping sites near St. Clair feature improved camping pads. A review for Addison Oaks noted, "Nice quick weekend retreat campground. Cement pads, water, and electric. Loop C is spacious with some trees."

What you should know

Beach conditions vary significantly: Many Lake Huron beaches have rocky shorelines requiring water shoes. One camper at Lakeport shared, "The beach was rocky so don't forget to pack some water shoes but the rocky beach comes with finding cool rocks to either paint or just collect! (We left with a whole cooler filled)."

Electrical system limitations: Some campgrounds have power constraints during peak season. Lakeport State Park recently upgraded their system, as a camper noted, "When we were there last weekend, we asked at the front bldg. why the website said the campground was full, but there were several openings in the south section. The workers said that they have to upgrade the electrical system this fall on the southern side."

Wristband policies: KOA Campground Emmett implements strict identification requirements. One reviewer mentioned, "You need to wear a wristband everywhere and at all times. Dumb gate that needs to be scanned to let you in. They guide you into your site which is extremely annoying and freak out if you go the wrong way on the one ways."
