Best RV Parks & Resorts near Alger, MI

Several RV parks dot the landscape near Alger, Michigan, providing varied options for motorhome travelers. Northern Bear Paw RV Park in Tawas City offers 57 sites with full hookups including 50-amp electric service, open year-round with both water and sewer connections. Outdoor Adventures Wilderness Resort in Omer features 30-amp service, water hookups, and sewer connections with sites that accommodate larger RVs from May through October. River View Campground in Sterling provides big rig access with 50-amp electric, water, and sewer hookups in a setting that includes boat access. Advance reservations are strongly recommended for summer months when lakeside parks fill quickly. Many campgrounds in the region offer sanitary dump stations, though availability varies seasonally with some facilities closing in mid-October when water systems are winterized. Cell service throughout the area ranges from adequate to spotty depending on proximity to towns like West Branch and Tawas City. Most parks welcome pets with standard leash requirements, and propane is available in nearby communities rather than at campgrounds themselves. Seasonal operation schedules vary significantly—Northern Bear Paw remains open year-round while parks like River View Campground operate from May through mid-October. Larger RVs should check individual park specifications before arrival as some locations have limited turning radius at entrances and interior roads with tight corners.

    Oscoda-Tawas KOA

    Great Campground

My wife and I stayed at the Oscoda/Tawas KOA for 7 nights in the first part of Sept 2021 at RV site # 10.  The site was level and adequately spacious.  The campground has a fabulous rec room for kids, although we had none with us, and an outside playground with a jungle gym and other amenities.  There are also cabins that we did not see inside but that appear to be well appointed.  The park staff are friendly and were very helpful at check in time and in giving us information about long term stays.  They also provide accommodation for storing RVs for those who book for the season.

    Tawas Point State Park Campground

    Beautiful State Park

The park is very clean. Some sites are small, some are larger. Have visited many times. Fun interpretive programs for adults and kids. Beautiful beach to spend the day on. Located close to town. Lots of areas to walk as well. Not pet friendly though, they are allowed at the sites, but not on the beach.

    Bay County Fairgrounds

    Great location and quiet

We stayed here 2 years ago.  The office where payment is made is a few miles away from the actual campground.

There is a dump station and water at the fairgrounds.  Along the left side near the dump / water station as you enter are huge grassy sites marked by electrical outlets at the rear of the sites. The rest of the fairgrounds are set up like  a traditional campground on a "loop" style.  It looks like almost all the sites will accommodate a 40 footer easily.

There were 2 or 3 campers who appeared to be long term seasonal guests but it did not distract from our overall stay.

We pull an Imagine 2500RL pulled by a Ford F-150 max trailer package.

We stayed 4 nights and spent the days traveling around Bay City.

Founds a great BBQ that had been shared by MI PLAYGROUND ---  Meaty's Roadhouse BBQ& Sausage Shack Bay City.
We are planning our Summer 2024 travels and will; be stopping at the Bay County Fairgrounds again this summer.

    Sleeper State Park Campground

    A nice state park

A nice campground with two loops. Can be tricky getting a large RV in especially during bigger holidays but the sites are large and you can park you camper a few different ways. Decent trails. Beach access across the road. There is a pet friendly section of the beach. Lots of pets here. The bathrooms in the east loop are older and not that great but the other loop has a nice modern bathroom. Sites are mostly flat more so on the eastern loop. We had a nice visit.

    Tawas Point State Park Campground

    Great park with a lighthouse

East Tawas is a place I've visited most of my adult life. There's some walking trails here, the lighthouse is a close walk/bike from anywhere in the park. Getting to town is a few minute drive, or a very long bike ride on the road.

Like most Michigan State Parks, your site has electric (30/50) only. Water spigots are located in various spots throughout the park. I advise you fill your freshwater tank at home, or when you arrive, at the dump station.

There's a few ADA sites with concrete pads, all others are grass. Comfort stations are in good shape.

Beaches are, like most in Michigan, eroded due to high water levels, but still useable.

You can watch sunrise on the Lake Huron side, sunsets over Tawas Bay.

I've never really interacted with staff here, but never needed to. Park is clean. There can be lineups at the dump station.

A few sites are pull thru. Most back-in.

If you have a vehicle, there's many places to see in the area, like Lumberman's Monument. Tawas has a nice farmers market, worth a visit for fresh veg and other items.

    Herrick Recreation Area

    Rustic but fun

Rustic feel as all sites are electric but no water hook up. There are spigots in the center as well as a dump station and potable water fill. My family has camped here for years as it is close to home. They sell fire wood and the bath houses are cleaned multiple times as day and the showers are usually pretty warm as well. Great place to camp as a group. A few different play grounds and a full beach across the road.

    Oscoda-Tawas KOA

    Very nice campground!

Very nice campground off the beaten path. Oscoda is on the East side of Michigan off Lake Huron. Northern lower pennisula. This campground is a good base camp for the area.

We had site 53, which is a 30 amp back in site. These sites are by the marsh. Unfortunately, we had no clear view of the marsh due to summer foliage. Bugs were buggy, but it's summer. There's a train track by the campground, but we only heard it at night two times. It didn't run on the weekend. The campground was full over the weekend, but everyone was very polite & quiet hours were enforced. Bathrooms & showers were great. Very clean. They have a small pool, playground for the kids. The jumping pillow was down- covid precautions. If we're in the area, we'll stay again. We camped at Oscoda/ Tawas KOA Holiday in a Travel Trailer.

    The Lost Oak's Campground

    Awesome Wooded Campground!

We stayed here over Labor Day Weekend 2021 and had a great time. The electric sites are all large campsites that are very long with lots of options on how you want to setup. Awesome wood pricing that's delivered directly to the campsite. Lots of walking trails and the campground was dog friendly. Extremely friendly owners who keep the campground and it's facilities very very clean. The outdoor showers were great! Great water pressure and HOT water! There's a little Fresh Produce stand across the street, easy walking distance for some great veggies, eggs, and baked goods. Can't wait to come back and see what the new owners have added after the season!

Great Cell Coverage on AT&T (80mbps+ down); decent coverage on Sprint/TMobile and Verizon.
