Nice campground

We had a great campout here. Campsites are riverside, well maintained, plenty of room, have a fire ring with a grill grate, and have a picnic table. The ground is dirt with some small gravel. There’s port-a-potties in the campground, and a full bathroom just up the road next to the fort. You can fish here, swim in the river, or float along on a kayak or inflatable.

Rainy night

I wish I could have enjoyed the campground way more but it rained the whole night. My spot had a cool path down to the river. There aren’t really facilities other then a porta potty near the sites and there is a code to get into the gate. There was hard stand toilets and trash and water fill up and you leave the park area

History

Campsites are pretty close together so if that is something you mind I wouldn’t suggest it, super cool history to be found here for sure and really nice walking paths also right on the river. No alcohol allowed for tents

Little loud but a good getaway

Overall a good campground. Clean sites and helpful staff. We stayed at site 15. I would recommend the site on the other side of the water as they are more spread apart. The sites on the river side (which you can’t really see) are very tight together. We had some hornets visit us in the evenings but that’s nature. Nice tables at the site, good fire pit with a grill top. Added some more photos to show proximity to other sites. Great spot for some small hikes and history at the fort. There’s also tons of markers on the trails with history.

Very private peaceful little camp

This is a very private peaceful little camp. Nice flat sites with fire pits and tables. Primitive sites but generators are allowed until 10pm. Right on the river and close to the Fort. Very polite and helpful park personal.

it'll do in a pinch

My partner and our two dogs camped at Fort Frederick over the weekend. It isn't the best place to camp if you have other options but we were looking to get out of the city with just a few days of notice. The campsites are very close together except for the youth campgrounds. Getting in and out of the campground is a pain since you have to go through a padlocked gate. The showers, water and bathrooms are very very far away (require a car) and outside of the gate. You're limited to portapoties as your only option near your campsite. You must bring in all your water too. It is also very loud at the campground due to the train which sounds like it is two feet from your tent. The cicadas at night are insanely loud too but at least they are natural.

The highlights are the nearby river, cheap price, cute beaver pond trail and the fort itself. There are some nice hot showers, they are on the opposite side of the bathroom facility but you have to bring your swimsuit because they are open air.

Good, Small, and Quiet

Good, small, quiet campground. Don’t expect any frills -at all- but the scenery and the history is great. The fort is very cool, and exhibits are great.

Standard

Camped here for a weekend. Was enjoyable but each site is very close and there is not much to do in the area. It was advertised that you could swim but there are no areas designated. Nice place but only good if you’re sticking to your site.

Quiet is key

We'v been to a couple of others around the area but this one is probably one of our favorites so far. Mostly because its quiet. Others we'v stayed at you just hear generators all night, here it was just the awesome sounds of the outdoors and withthe river right behind us it was even better. Pricingwas good compared to other campsites and prices at the store werent bad either for things like forewood. Would defintely be back.

Camping on the Potomac River.

The camp sites at Fort Frederick State Park are siuated right on the Potomac river. Very beautiful if I do say so myself. There's probably 20-30 sites here. There are fire rings and picnic tabl at your sites. Perfect for cooking and relaxing by the fire. There are toilets located on the campground.

There also a general store nearby where you can find yourself a nice hot shower. This is great if your like me and live in a van and don't get a shower when needed. You can swim, kayak, fish, hike or bike here.

Cheers!
