Well loved campground and it shows

My partner and our two dogs loved this campground! We were in the dogwood loop.

Positives

* Big, immaculately groomed tent pads

* Mostly tent campers!

* Almost all sites were nice and shaded

* Clean bathrooms with free showers were close by

* Fellow campers were friendly and respectful

* Water spigots were close by

* Ice and firewood were easily accessible

Negatives

* The beach by the lake is PACKED every weekend with day trippers - we avoided it since we are careful due to COVID

beautiful with a few annoyances

My partner and our two dogs camped here for a weekend in a tent. Some of the sites are much better than others, a lot are closer together than I'd like. It is a really excellent spot to camp at in the summer as the temperatures are much cooler on the mountain. The bathrooms near the sites do not have showers. The showers are coin operated, pretty far away (we drove) and are only open for very limited hours. Overall, a great spot if you get the right campsite but overpriced. The price to camp, the firewood and the ice are all expensive. The tent sites have a fire ring with a grate. There is no grill so be sure to bring a camp stove, no one wants to have to start three fires a day just to eat.

it'll do in a pinch

My partner and our two dogs camped at Fort Frederick over the weekend. It isn't the best place to camp if you have other options but we were looking to get out of the city with just a few days of notice. The campsites are very close together except for the youth campgrounds. Getting in and out of the campground is a pain since you have to go through a padlocked gate. The showers, water and bathrooms are very very far away (require a car) and outside of the gate. You're limited to portapoties as your only option near your campsite. You must bring in all your water too. It is also very loud at the campground due to the train which sounds like it is two feet from your tent. The cicadas at night are insanely loud too but at least they are natural.

The highlights are the nearby river, cheap price, cute beaver pond trail and the fort itself. There are some nice hot showers, they are on the opposite side of the bathroom facility but you have to bring your swimsuit because they are open air.
