Agritourisum at it best

Stayed 5 nights with family on the next sight, great place for kids with lots of variety, animals and low traffic back roads for bike riding. Reserve early if you want hookups.

An Annual Tradition!

Such a great place for families. West Bay has a playground, a great shower house, water access, and kayak rentals.

Love this site!

We’ve loved our stay so far. Freeport is an excellent base of operations for hiking, kayaking, etc. The camp site is quiet, but beware of skunks at night. Also, the website hasn’t been updated - kayak rentals and honey wagon service are both unavailable as listed. HW service is only 1 day per week, so if your tanks are small, be prepared. Getting into spots can be a little tight as well - take it slow, have a spotter and you should be just fine. The spots are gorgeous - ours in particular felt spacious and private. Worth the effort.

A word of caution: there is sand absolutely everywhere. I don’t associate Maine with sandy beaches, so it didn’t occur to me beforehand there would be so much of it (yeah, even at an oceanfront campground.) The pads are comprised mostly of large-grit sand and some gravel. This makes the edges of the pad soft, and can require some extra leveling blocks and effort. The sand will also get everywhere - on your shoes, on your pets’ paws. Bring a broom or two and find your inner peace over it.

A messy jumble--- no privacy

Near Freeport on a backwater bay, this wild area is loosely managed and is not for those who prefer space between sites. It’s really a jumble of sites.

Overpriced for the value provided. Deferred maintenance is the watch word here. My site# 303 was next to a toilet and a lumber pile…across from a camper with multiple cars. There may be rules about number of vehicles allowed & number of tents; but, if so, they are not enforced.

There is a walk-in area called Quiet Cove that may be more pleasing, but this reviewer didn’t see it. More effort has been expended in website graphics than in campground design and maintenance. UGH.

Beautiful area, a few hiccups

The Great stuff- really can't get a better setting. Ocean front sites were amazing. The farm activities were awesome unique adventures. Kayaking in the bay was perfect! Not so great- There were a few disappointing things I experienced. The outhouse at the end of our area was just a portapotty that was not in great shape. I personally don't love these. I walked the extra 5 mins to the other outhouse wich was a foot pedal type toilet. I just wish they would label it on the map what the bathroom really was. I might have picked a different site. Second issue was the Farm Cafe. We planned on eating there at least one night for dinner. They were closed way earlier that the posted hours. The menu seemed more limited as well. Funny story: We had a skunk visit our site late one night! Luckily he did not spray. :)

Farm experience.. sort of

My kids had a blast biking around the farm, visiting farm animals, and watching the ocean. Never got tired of biking around. Mostly flat, but the dirt road had a lot of potholes. Farm store has milk, variety of flavors, and the farm cafe had some nice quick bites.

Moo

It was fun to feed cows and walk goats. Cute farm. Ok playground, large field for pickup style games. Sites are small and not well divided. I had neighbors complain that we were on their side of the post, owners family/staff came to say that no we were fine. No sandy beach, but it's Maine after all. Tidal, and all that includes. Beautiful sky of stars. Quiet hours are enforced and respected. Few neighbors had fires past 2,3 am without issue. We are actually looking at going back this summer.

Loved it!

We visited twice—early August and the end of September. We tented both times. Our grandchildren loved the milking barn (they eat Stonyfield yogurt), the chickens and the trees (they had only camped in fields before). In September, we were the only tenters and were there for 60mph wind storm overnight! Several trees nearby were blown over but were quickly dealt with. Both RVrs were quickly moved to other sites as they were in jeopardy from the falling trees. Our tent survived—probably only because we were in it! We will return next summer as it is close to home, lovely location and close enough to Freeport to go for dinner.

The bathrooms and showers are spotless (cleaned twice daily) and the dish washing station is nice with hot water and sprayers. The compost bucket there was nice for food scraps but was missing in September. Plenty of portApots around. Water spigots every two or three spots at the road. WiFi is non-existent in west bay. We walked down the trail to the water where a kayak launch is indicated—no way would I want to haul one down the rocks and roots and over more rocks to the water!

Overrated

Pictures are deceiving! My two teenagers and I booked site 810 in the west bay for my birthday and we were incredibly disappointed. I’ll skip most of the complaints about the site and staff, and say this site works best of you have a small camper and/or don’t mind not having ANY privacy.

We had two small tents and two hammocks. We could only hang one hammock because the only trees were too small and over the rocky ledge to the water below. The water view was beautiful, but there is no possible position for privacy from the site to the right or left or behind unless you’re inside your tent. There is a small gravel road directly behind, and an open field with full hook ups behind you. We had large groups of noisy families in the field behind and generators ran much of the time not to mention, if the people in the field want to view the water, they have to sit facing sites like 810, which felt like people were watching us all of the time. We highly recommend NOT staying in the west bay unless you have, or like, lots of young children running around back and forth to the playground. There are also not clear markers between sites, so they were often throwing balls and tumbling in our site. It can also get super windy, so plan ahead in case.

Aside from the site itself, we had some issues with the way the animals were treated in the barn, and with the food at the restaurant. Granted, we went in August during covid, so maybe those things are typically better cared for. We may go back — the surrounding bay is gorgeous — but we’ll def stay in east bay or one of the tent walk in sites if we do. Bring bikes of you can, it’s a nice farm to pedal around and the bike rentals were not available due to covid.

Woods, ocean and farm

This is a beautiful campground for those that love natural settings. Lot's of wooded campsites for tents or RVs. I'm guessing 80% of the sites are for tents, pop ups and small trailers. The overall campground is huge with lot's of open farm fields. Plenty of activities available but it's not a "resort" campground.

Can’t wait to return!

We stopped here for a few nights during our recent RV roadtrip and cannot wait to return with my nieces and nephews! Such lovely, picturesque grounds with experiences to satisfy everyone. My husband and I did the tandem kayaking which was one of my favorite experiences of our entire trip, where we paddled out to view the active osprey on a nearby preserve as they were soaring, diving, and snatching fish to feed their hatchlings. Offers educational experiences to learn about sustainable farming. Sites are clean and well maintained!

This place was absolutely amazing! The campground is on the same land as an organic dairy farm! You get to be a part of the farm experience and see how a farm operates. We saw them milking the cows and feeding the other animals. There are also greenhouses and plants everywhere. A lot of the spots are right on the water, which is beautiful. There are trails to the shore along the campground. Showers and bathrooms were great!

Beautiful beach side camping

We camped a couple nights here at site 218, it was a slightly obscured water view but it was a beautiful view over a massive field looking out to the farm. The preseason rates were impossible to beat and it is a nice new facility. Running water spickets everywhere, nice flushing outhouses. We rented a kayaks at one point and had a great two hour kayak in a back cove and along the seashore. There were even horseshoe crabs mating on the kayak rental launch. Camp store was okay prices and had some quality options. All in all, great location and cant wait to return.

Visited this site while up in Maine seeing the in-laws and had a wonderful time! This is a beautiful site right on the water and so close to Wolfe's Neck State Park which has wonderful hiking. Just remember it can get pretty cold around here to plan accordingly depending on what season you go. Its also so nice just how close to Portland and Freeport this site is so you can even get some shopping in at the LL Bean outlet.

Awesome

This campground will always hold a special place to my fiancé and I, as we got engaged here! We stayed right on the bay and there were gorgeous sunrises and awesome sites. There was plenty of space to spread out at camp and not have to worry about intruding on someone else. The rise and fall of the tide is a bit tricky if you want to kayak very much because you might end up dragging it through the mud if you stay out too long. Restrooms were close by but the only downside was that the showers were at the main store so you had to drive all the way up there! We arrived after hours but since we contacted them earlier in the day, they accommodated us by leaving a map to where our campsite was!

Beautiful farm, ocean, and forest experience

Absolutely fabulous camping experience. Stayed in "quiet cove" which is the tent-only location a bit of a ways from the main campground office, but much more natural and secluded. Was also created pretty recently so the bathrooms were clean and lovely, and all the pathways and landscaping felt really well maintained. Didn't try the food, but there is a nice food stand with woodfired pizza and a lobster dinner on certain nights. The trails and ocean views around Wolfe's Neck Park were fantastic - highly recommend for anyone looking to get out of the Freeport consumer scene.

The working farm is open to visit and walk around. Pet the baby cows and see the pigs and goats. they have a ton of activities going on through the summer. Our huge tent site was $60 for a busy August weekend. totally reasonable! we had a lovely time despite the rain and will try to go again next year! Country living with an ocean view

This campground was absolutely great. Like most campgrounds on the shores of Maine in the summer, it can get a little pricier. The campground offers oceanfront camping, hike-in camping, and your typical large gathering type camping. It has a camp office/store, farm store, and a cafe that is a hot spot. The bathrooms and trash/recycling are all in one central location, with outhouses scattered throughout the grounds. Freeport is very close for any shopping or grocery needs.
