What to do
Hiking at Clark Creek trails: Located 8 miles from Tunica Hills Campground in Mississippi, these trails offer varied terrain and elevation changes. "If you want to go camping were the GPS can't get you there but good old fashion directions will this is the place for you! Ms. Brenda is doing it right... On a day trip you can drive 8 miles into Mississippi to Clarks Creek for an awesome day of hiking that never forget," shares one Tunica Hills Campground visitor.
Fishing at nearby lakes: Natchez State Park offers excellent fishing opportunities on their large lake. "Great Lake for kayaking. Nice big fishing pier. Great fishing for big bass and catfish along the levy," notes one camper who enjoyed the water activities.
Trail exploration: The 17-mile network of trails at Clear Springs Recreation Area provides diverse hiking options. "It has 2 separate areas, both have electric and water at the sites. $25. Smaller RVs and tents only. Dump site at the entrance. There are trials, large picnic areas, and an older bath house with hot showers. Big pond for fishing and swimming," explains a recent visitor.
What campers like
Natural terrain variety: The unique hills and ravines create a landscape that surprises visitors. "One of the most beautiful camp sites in LA. The geography here is not like anywhere else I have seen in Louisiana very nice and the owner is super accommodating," mentions a visitor to Tunica Hills Campground.
Night sounds and seclusion: The remote location provides an immersive forest experience. "The campground is very secluded, so you get to experience the sounds of the woods at night. Clark's Creek is nearby for superb hiking. Port-a-Potty was clean. Road in to site is narrow, but camp host very nice. Call to reserve," notes a Tunica Hills visitor.
Water activities: Chicot State Park offers multiple water recreation options. "We camped at site 363, not too bad, definitely needs upgrades. Not enough space between campers to even light a fire. There are miles of beautiful hiking trails, but beware of snakes! The bathrooms were recently updated so they were really nice," shares one camper.
What you should know
Remote location requires preparation: The Angola area glamping sites have limited access to supplies. "It's a peaceful place to camp. Just make sure you bring all your supplies you think you might need because there isn't any store for miles," advises a Tunica Hills visitor.
Wildlife encounters: Various wildlife inhabits the camping areas near Angola. "Lake was beautiful. Awesome kayaking. Camp sites are a little close, especially because we usually go to tent only sections... the raccoons are not your average raccoons, and the mosquitos were not even those of us In South Louisiana say are normal," warns a South Campground — Chicot State Park visitor.
Seasonal considerations: Weather impacts camping conditions significantly. "This campground is about as old school as you can get without being totally remote. This campground is NOT accessible by GPS, and visitors must follow the online directions. Be wary of arriving at night, as there are no lights and it is pretty difficult to get set up," cautions a Tunica Hills camper.
Tips for camping with families
Playground access: Several campgrounds offer dedicated play areas. "Already Planning a Trip Back... There are areas for the kids to play in the woods some of the areas are steep and they needed supervision (5&6 year old). It's about a 10 minute drive to the wildlife management area if you are in to that. Geocaching and several trails nearby," shares a Tunica Hills visitor.
Swimming options: Poche's RV Park & Fish-N-Camp provides family-friendly water recreation. "Beautiful grounds and very friendly people. Tons of activities for kids and adults! Pet friendly! And each site is set up great and all the grounds are clean!" notes a visitor.
Activity planning: Schedule outdoor activities wisely considering the climate. "Ms. Brenda is the best! This campground has all the amenities! Hot water is tricky but the coffee pot makes up for it. There's a microwave as well. Most of all the sites are separated by the ravines. We hiked down to the creek from the site and also went on trail C at tunica," explains a Tunica Hills camper.
Tips from RVers
Site access limitations: Many glamping sites near Angola have restrictions on vehicle size. "The entry road is not really suited to most RVs. The electric box has a wasp nest. The concrete slab was partially covered in mud," warns a Natchez State Park visitor about road conditions.
Hookup availability: RV sites with full hookups are limited in the Angola area. "We go here every three or four months but they have made several improvements since the last time. They enlarged their office and store, rent golf carts, kayaks, and other equipment. New children playground equipment. And their fishing has gotten better," notes a Poche's RV Park visitor.
