Peaceful and relaxing

I've been camping at this state park since the early 2000's and am pleased to say not much has changed. The campground has 7 sites each with it's own picnic table, fire ring, and pole for stashing your food away from bears. If you like fishing there is a small lake which is regularly stocked with…

Quiet, peaceful, but no water hookup

Very peaceful, not at all crowded, small campground. There's only 18 sites and they're spread out. There is electric hookups but not water. There is a dump station too.

Great small campground

Good size sites, especially the outer part of the loop. The beach is nice but a lot of steps to get down to it. Overall the campground is clean and staff is extremely helpful. The bathhouses are a bit run down and updated or something. We had a path to the lake which was great and we kayaked from…

Whimsical Relaxation

Quaint park tucked away in the hills of VA in Big Stone Gap next to South Fork Powell River. Although our site is right on top of our neighbor, that is NOT the norm. Sites are spaced out with some full-timers, part-timers and vacationers. The owner allowed us to choose our site, and after having…

If you’re interested in coal mining, have I got a spot for you.

This small park is located across the street from an exhibition coal mine, portal 31. It is in the former train depots former switch yard. Small, with electric hookups and a communal water spout.

If you want to see the history of coal production in southeast Kentucky, this is the place. If you…

Hidden gem in Harlan county.

Great spot in an interesting area, we were here to go to the high point, Black Mountain. Portal 31 is closer, but this is a significantly more natural experience.

6 sites that are tent-centric but doable with a small trailer, there are two additional sites that can be accessed if you ask the…

Small, affordable, really nice to deal with

Several cabins, RV spots and grassy tent areas. The staff are very easy to work with - they will sell and chop the wood you need, let you put your tent in any of the open grass areas around the lot and they are flexible on arrival.

  • decent showers and bathrooms
  • reasonable prices
  • quiet…
  • Picked a place with rocky soil, and maybe put my door towards a low spot for a puddle. Otherwise, on the back edge of the campground by clean water and no one close nearby.

Quiet, beautiful views

This campground in the Kingdom Come State Park has about 6 or 7 sites, and they are primitive with no running water, but good pads, picnic tables, food hangers, shade from trees, and fire rings. There are men's and women's bathrooms, with running water in the sinks, but no water faucets as in other…

Peaceful and relaxing

Very clean and well maintained. Locating directly in the river makes it a very serene atmosphere. We enjoyed fishing and kayaking during our stay.

Dirty Campsite

We stayed at this “resort” park and were very disappointed.

Campsite was super dirty, food left behind on the ground everywhere, beans, egg shells, etc., were dumped in the creek.

Showers and restrooms were disgusting.

This park needs some TLC.

Hopefully people can respect nature and learn…

We have stayed at Pappys multiple times this year and each time is better than the last. We tent camp and always have plenty of room. Campground is located right next to the East Lynn outlaw trails.
