Renfro Valley RV Park in Mount Vernon features level sites with 50 amp electrical service, water, and sewer connections, though it notably prohibits campfires. Oh! Ridgeline Campground — Cumberland Falls State Resort Park

    Small but Nice!

Easy to find, well marked. It’s has many (12) trails and many falls. Would definitely recommend shopping before camping, it’s several miles, and mountains, to get to stores. There are several lodging options…cottages, The Lodge, (which is beautiful) tent and RV camping. There are 2 small campgrounds ~ 1) Ridgeline which accommodates RVs up to 26”, water and 10/30/50 amp hook ups. Sites have a fire ring and picnic table. WiFi is available, and there is a dump station. A small playground, office/campstore, and a bathhouse and laundry next to it. 3 sites are walk-in. Big rigs would have to stay elsewhere. 2) Clifty Campground is tent camping only 7 sites offer electric and water. WiFi is also offered. There is a bathhouse and a playground, and these CG’s are pet friendly. (Falls Creek is a few miles up the road…they have pull through and back ins. For bigger Rvs. They also have tents, wagons, cabin rentals, and primitive sites) We had no T-Mobile service, or satellite service in our vehicle. The trails and Cumberland falls were awesome. The horse rides looked amazing, and the Pool was big, with a diving board, and a small fee for campers to use it.

    Pioneer Playhouse Campground

This is all about the theater...not the camping

This place has some fascinating history and a unique outdoor summer stock theater experience. The oldest outdoor theater in Kentucky with 5 productions running through the summer months. Definitely a good time and casual dining evening with stories of many famous faces that have graced the stage: John Travolta, Lee Majors, Jim Varney...to name a few. The campground has 35 sites with little elbow room; all have electric(30 amp) and water, gravel/grass pads, shower facilities and bathrooms, and they do have a"rustic" dump station. Many of the sites seem to have long term tenants...so this is best for a one night stop and a show. The town of Danville has what you need for supplies and dining, loads of historical sites in the area and of course there is a Bourbon Distillery that must make the list of activities. pioneerplayhouse.com/visit-us/campground/

Middle Fork Campground — Natural Bridge State Resort Park

Middle Fork - Natural Bridge SP

Just got back from a quick spring break trip to the Red River Gorge. We booked our site in Middle Fork back in January. We had site B024, pull through. Clean campground, nice staff. It is narrow getting down to the site and you can easily miss it as you take the curves of Rt11/Natural Bridge Rd. We have a 37' trailer that took the entire length of the pad. If you pull through with nose facing the river, ALL utilities are on the driver's side/left. 20-30-50 amp plus water hookup. Bring your H20 filter as the 💧 is slightly brown. Pad is asphalt, table and fire ring on small gravel. Bath house has 2 shower stalls, 3 commode, 2 sinks (guys side). There is NO internet/wifi as the the supply line to the campground was cut/damaged 2+ yrs ago. Also, you are in a valley. If wx is clear you might get 2 bars/4G service. My teenagers survived. All the amenities for the park are a short drive or an easy walk. Had a great experience all around. Check out the Gorge Underground and take the SkyLift for an easy climb to Natural Bridge.

The Perfect Getaway: The Farm RV Resort Review

If you’re looking for an idyllic spot to park your RV and unwind, The Farm RV Resort is an absolute gem. Nestled in a serene countryside setting, this resort offers the perfect blend of nature and comfort. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed by the friendly and helpful staff who made check-in a breeze. The resort itself is beautifully maintained, with spacious, level sites that provide plenty of room for both our RV and outdoor activities. We particularly loved the well-kept grass areas and the full hook-ups, making it super convenient for extended stays. The resort has a rustic charm that makes you feel like you’re getting away from it all, yet it still provides modern amenities. One of the highlights of our stay was the peaceful atmosphere. The surrounding farm landscape, with its rolling fields and calm breeze, is perfect for those who enjoy the quiet outdoors. We spent our evenings watching sunsets, enjoying the fresh air, and even taking walks around the grounds. For those looking for activities, the resort offers a variety of fun options. There’s a cozy clubhouse with games and a small store for essentials, plus a community fire pit where guests can gather and share stories under the stars. We also enjoyed the nearby trails, perfect for hiking or biking. Great base camp for the area

Great place to stay for Cumberland Falls. Clean facilities. The place is great for any size RV/Camper. I was in a 40 footer. Just a few need to knows.

    • Wireless is unreliable and if there are a lot of people it is unavailable -Limited cell service really only consistent if you walk up to the road, I dont have booster.
    • Only the pull thru sites have sewer taps. All sites have water and 50 amp service though and a dump station is available.

    LockRidge Park

    A Diamond in the Rough

This is a true gem and one not to be missed. Unfortunately, our stay was limited to one night, however, we will definitely be returning to take advantage of the many amenities included. Full hookups, laundry, bath house, general store, tastefully designed accommodations, activities, and even an outdoor theatre; everything you need for an enjoyable long-term stay. The Site was quite large and accommodated our 24 ft rig and truck, and FH, which were very clean and well placed. Our site also provided partial shade, which in the warmer months would be very beneficial. Not to mention, the beautiful views with a lovely trail and lookout over Dix River that runs behind the property. Management/Owners were incredibly hospitable and friendly. We loved our overnight stay at Lockridge, it was quiet, peaceful, and absolutely beautiful. We camped at LockRidge Park in a Travel Trailer.

*TIP ~ Dix River runs behind the property, nearby there is a marina, waterfalls, trout fishing, and many other recreational activities. This venue also hosts events and has Harvest Host accommodations.

    Sheltowee Trace Adventure Resort

    Probably great in the summer

This was a one night stop on our way to Ohio. The property is nice and the sites are spacious. Didn't really like the placement of the fire ring. Had we used it, we would have been listening to our neighbor's music most of the night. We had a W/E site. Our Verizon cell signal was terrible and the campground wifi was not much better. The sites were gravel but were level. We didn't use the showers but they looked clean. The laundry room had only 1 washer and 1 dryer. The playground is best suited for toddlers. The dump station would have been convenient if we were dumping on the way in, but not placed well for dumping upon departure. They did have a zip line and a gem mining station for an extra cost. It was secluded enough that there wasn't a lot of road noise at night. It seems like it would be a nice enough campground during the summer. For the price paid for the site, it would have been nice to have included some of the extra activities. No cell or wifi service would probably keep us from staying here again as it was impossible to get any work done. Be sure to check out the Birthplace of Kentucky Fried Chicken. We didn't get to go inside the cafe(COVID), but we did have some photo ops outside.

    Patrick’s Point River Camp

    A great little getaway spot!

We will absolutely be back! I’ll be honest, as a visibly queer person with rainbow hair I was a bit nervous about the Bible verses and Christian flag due to past experiences, but Patrick and Angelica were welcoming and friendly the entire time!

The RV spot with shade was great! It’s right next to the bathroom but everyone is spread out enough it wasn’t an issue at all.

Strong WiFi, pet friendly, and a beautiful, peaceful spot with very friendly owners!

Guide to Gray Hawk

RV camping near Gray Hawk, Kentucky offers varied terrain with elevations ranging from 800 to 1,200 feet in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. The area experiences distinct seasons with mild springs, humid summers, and colorful fall foliage, making spring and fall popular for motorhome travelers. Winter camping remains viable at several year-round facilities despite occasional snowfall and temperatures that can drop below freezing.

What to do

Fishing access: 4 Guys RV Park provides a small fishing pond on-site, with the Kentucky River and Red River Gorge waterways nearby for additional angling opportunities. "They have a small fishing pond, swimming pool, basketball court, and a playground. They are very close to Natural Bridge/Red River Gorge area," notes camper Christy W.

Hiking trails: The Red River Gorge area contains over 100 miles of trails within a 30-minute drive of Gray Hawk. 4 Guys RV Park at Red River Gorge serves as an excellent base camp. "If you are looking for a campground that is near all of the hiking trails and sights in and around the red river gorge this is the place to be!" shares Jen K.

Water recreation: Boating and swimming options abound at Lake Cumberland, approximately 45 minutes south. Lake Cumberland RV Park offers direct access to State Dock marina. "Close to State Dock and free transportation from the RV park to the dock. Wooded area and facilities were very good," reports Ben R.

What campers like

Level sites: Many campgrounds prioritize level parking pads for motorhomes. "Large level sites. Commercial campground, so sites are close without trees to separate," explains Anne D. about her stay at 4 Guys RV Park.

Clean facilities: Bathroom and shower cleanliness ranks high in camper reviews. Camp Nelson RV Park maintains well-kept bathhouses. "The women's bathhouse has been remodeled and was very nice," notes Kristen H., while Randy G. adds, "The campground has a very nice pool and is very quiet."

Hospitality: Personal attention from staff enhances the camping experience throughout the region. "The owners were on-site and incredibly welcoming, helping us get settled into our site with ease. We even received a delightful goodie bag as a thank-you for choosing to stay there!" reports Kara A. about Cumberland Falls RV Resort.

What you should know

Winter accessibility: Several facilities remain open year-round despite seasonal challenges. Westgate RV Campground operates throughout winter months with full hookups, though mountainous access roads may require caution during icy conditions. "This is a great overnight stop for us. They have complete full utility hook ups, Wi-Fi and you can walk to several restaurants and mini mart," explains Cam C.

Wi-Fi variability: Internet connectivity differs significantly between campgrounds. While some parks advertise Wi-Fi, actual performance can be inconsistent. "The WiFi/cell service is great," notes Jen K. about 4 Guys RV Park, though other facilities may struggle with reliable connections.

Campfire restrictions: Not all campgrounds permit open fires. Renfro Valley RV Park explicitly prohibits campfires, which can disappoint travelers seeking traditional camping experiences. "Easy access close to I 75," notes Curtis T. about its convenient location despite these limitations.

Tips for camping with families

Pool access: Swimming facilities provide recreation for children during warmer months. "They have a really nice pool and the WiFi/cell service is great," shares Jen K. about 4 Guys RV Park.

Playground availability: Several campgrounds feature play equipment for younger visitors. Walnut Meadow RV Park maintains family-friendly facilities despite occasional weather challenges. "Family-owned, close to I75 perfect for quick overnight. Close to shops restaurants etc. A little noisy," reports Matthew A.

Proximity to attractions: Cumberland Falls State Resort Park, featuring the "moonbow" phenomenon, sits within 30 minutes of several RV parks. "We're so glad we missed the state park and stumbled upon this little gem," mentions Kara A. about nearby Cumberland Falls RV Resort.

Tips from RVers

Overnight convenience: Several parks cater specifically to travelers needing single-night stays along I-75. "It'll do for a quick stay. Staff was very friendly. Sites are literally mom and pop developed land. Grounds weren't filthy," reports Jennifer R. about Westgate RV Campground.

Site selection: Veteran RVers recommend requesting specific sites when making reservations. "We had a great time. This was one of the quietest campgrounds we have ever been to. The site we received was awesome and spacious, but we had some friends that were pleased with theirs and left early," cautions Kristen H. about Camp Nelson RV Park.

Seasonal considerations: Early spring and late fall offer milder temperatures with reduced humidity. "We had a fantastic stay at The Farm RV Resort in December. The resort's peaceful, wintery landscape provided the perfect setting for a quiet getaway," shares Mike S., highlighting off-season advantages for motorhome travelers.
