Lake Icaria County Park offers camping options near Audubon, Iowa, with full hookup sites that accommodate recreational vehicles and horse trailers. The campground features spacious sites with fire pits and picnic tables where equestrians can set up their trailers nearby. While Lake Icaria does not have dedicated horse corrals, the park allows pets and has trails that can be used for riding. The park maintains clean facilities with regularly serviced bathrooms and showers. Sites are positioned with adequate space for parking horse trailers, though visitors should call ahead to confirm current policies regarding horses on trails and in camping areas.

The trails surrounding Lake Icaria provide moderate terrain suitable for horseback riding, connecting to multiple scenic areas around the lake. Horse owners need to bring their own portable corrals or tie-out systems as the campgrounds do not offer permanent equine facilities. Squirrel Hollow County Park provides a more rustic alternative with tent camping and RV sites with 30-amp hookups that can accommodate smaller horse trailers. The quiet, uncrowded atmosphere makes it suitable for campers with horses who prefer less populated areas. Trail riders should note that water access is available at these parks, but dedicated equestrian amenities are limited. Dallas County Fairgrounds in Adel offers another option with full hookups, including 50-amp service for larger horse trailers, though it is primarily designed for event camping rather than recreational trail riding.

      Lake Icaria Co Park

One of the best sw Iowa Lakes

I will first off stay I have not been to a lot of Iowa parks. But I will say the ones I have been to, that this is the nicest or one of them. They have concessions, boat rentals, boating of all types, fishing, and trails. There are very nice picnic areas, and the bathrooms or restroom facilities are clean. This place is fantastic and offers a lot to anyone. So give it a try.

      Lake Icaria Co Park

      Great place that wasn’t crowded

Very nice place. Full hook up spots were very nice. Easy to get into, plenty of space, fire pit, picnic table, friendly & helpful park officers, lots of activities (hiking, boating, boat rentals, beach, bait shop, close to a race track in Corning, etc). We went the weekend after Memorial Day & there were plenty of spots. Quiet & family friendly. Even have food trucks that serve over by the beach!

      Lake Icaria Co Park

      Lake Icaria will not disappoint

I never know what to expect when I go to a County run campground and park. Usually they have more limited resources than their State counterparts so my expectations are usually pretty low. I didn't even have Lake Icaria on my radar, I just happened to be driving by and decided to stop.

It is not far off the main road and has a nice marina and boat ramp. There are a few hiking trails and some real nice picnic areas with nice views of the lake. The campground is clean with very nice spots for your camper or tent.

There were actually a lot of campers for a hot July day in the middle of the week but there were still plenty of open spots and although there were a good number of folks it didn't feel crowded or seem too noisy. This is a solid place to visit.

      Lake Icaria Co Park

      Easily my favorite spot

This is a very clean, lovely camp ground. The spots are spacious, and there are tons of options. In the fall we went and had no neighbors. It’s busy in summer, but well kept. They had people cleaning the bathrooms constantly (my mom kept pointing out, in awe, that it was “practically hourly”) which was great for tent camping with a large group! It’s quiet, beautiful lake, great boating, great swim spot, fun park for kids. Beautiful trees and hiking especially in the fall.
