    St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park

    RV delight

I wanted to escape the house and go camping while on the work from home order (Covid-19 happening at the time of this review), so I headed to a very local park and campground to pitch my tent. I've been to 370 Lakeside Park many times to walk around the huge lake and to hear concerts in the summer, but I had never camped there. Still haven't. I'll explain. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, they were not so keen on having tent campers. But they were very nice and gave me the general lowdown on this "in the city" campground. Since they opened the campground, most of their campers have been RV owners, and so it is really designed for the RV camper. There is a small primitive section for group tent camping, but the majority of the sites are full hookups for RVs. Some sites are pull through and some are back in. All have picnic tables and fire pits. The park has planted some trees, but they are really just saplings, so there is no shade yet. There is a nice bathhouse with free showers for the campers and pay laundry. If you are lucky, you can get a site close to the water, but it means the walking trail is right next to your unit. Trade offs, I suppose. One couple I talked to was camping long term (I think they are permanent RV'ers) and they got a free membership to the St Peter's RecPlex recreation center with their long term spot (they said something about having to book a least a month out to get this perk). One of the downsides to this location is that it is prone to flooding. It was out of commission for most of the summer of 2019 as the entire area was flooded. But the City of St Peters did a great job getting this place back to usable with new sod, a new bathhouse, and some general sprucing up. The lake is great to walk around, about a 3 mile walk or bike on a paved trail. You can see all kinds of wildlife in and around the lake- deer, bald eagles, pelicans, ducks, snakes. In the summers they have live music in the large pavilion, and you can rent kayaks and other small boats to take out on the lake as well as bikes to ride around on. The office told me that they have 24 hour on site security also. If I really wanted to tent camp, I could rent a section of the group camping area, but $30 seemed pricey for just me, and it was very soggy to boot. Or I  could rent an RV spot, but $45 was silly when I don' t need hookups.

    Country Bend Campground

    Great family friendly campground

Great place to stay and feel part of the community.  Pretty scenery to walk around.  Plenty of lakes/ponds to fish.  We couldn't boat while there due to COVID but look forward to going back and taking our kayaks.  Attentive and Friendly camp hosts. Pet friendly. Close to town if you've forgotten anything or want to have a restaurant dinner. Close to the highway for easy access.  Full hookup available. Monthly or Season also available.

    Pere Marquette State Park Campground

    Great Terrain for Illinois

This park has great hiking for Illinois. The campground has 88 sites total1-85 are either 30 amp or 50 amp electric sites. These are the class A sites $20 a night, they also have about 15 Class C sites for tents with no electric for $8 a night. The campground is doing some upgrades as of October 2017 and probably will be adding more 50 amp, water and sewer to some sites. There is also intel that says they are adding more sites plus more tent camping sites.

I camped in a motorhome and did not try to fight the crowd for the shower house. It is a busy campground, but I did visit in the summer busy season, so it may have less traffic in the fall. There are great hiking trails and the scenic drive to the park by the Mississippi and Illinois rivers is worth the trip alone.

I will return here for hiking for sure! I had some good luck fishing in the river near here too.

Draft Kings at Casino Queen RV Park

    Clean, Secure Overnight Park

Very clean and secure overnight park just outside of STL. Phenomenal views of downtown and the arch, and fairly easy access to I-55/64/70. Facilities lacked some amenities (only vending machines, convenience store has shut down), but clean, paved, level sites with full hookups throughout.

    Cahokia RV Parque

    Great Campground!

We had a great experience in the 4 nights we spent here. The grounds, pool, laundry, and bathrooms were all in excellent repair and clean. The park was quiet, but very family friendly. The spots are roomy enough, given that you’re situated less than 15 miles from downtown St. Louis. The picnic tables and fire rings are nice additions and the lots appear to be level (ours was.) We didn’t have any trouble backing our 38 ft travel trailer in either. Do NOT miss the BBQ place in the parking lot... fantastic food and a 10% discount for park customers.

    Country Bend Campground

    Great experience!

Big things happening at Country Bend Campgrounds in Montrgromy Co, IL. This beautiful campground has many things to offer and is only a few minutes from the local drive in movie theater in Litchfield Illinois. It has a pool, swing sets, playground, cabins, ponds with stocked fish, beautiful walking trails, camping, welcome center, baseball field, volleyball, games, horseshoes, paddle boats, miniature golf, and so much more. This family run business is under new management and is welcoming new seasonal campers and day campers with competitive pricing. Come check out this amazing campground and all it has to offer! Our rough collies will be joining us at this dog friendly campground! There is always something to do here and the owners strive to make it a family place by providing many activities on the weekends. The owners have done an amazing job on this campground and have made it one of the best campgrounds around to create that lasting experience with our children before they grow up!!!

    Cahokia RV Parque

Nice close park to St. Louis

Pet-friendly, full hookups, space for our larger rig and parking around for extra vehicle. Laundry and propane on site. Spaces were a little close together, but minutes from downtown St. Louis, and staff was friendly and accommodating. Also, fantastic restaurant right on site -- Sawmill BBQ!

    Country Bend Campground

    GO ELSEWHERE

Our motorhome is a big rig a 42 foot diesel pusher.. They squeezed site was 7 ft wide with little gravel mostly wet grass and mud.Our 40000 lb RV was 8 1/2"ft wide. We were put in a spot by Country Bend Campground not large enough for our vehicle. Not much gravel all mud. Due to a huge tree no satellite service yet the owners stated was good for our 42 ft diesel pusher motorhome and no obstacles. We were sandwiched between two living full time people right next to us. We waited 3 hours to come in since they charge$5 an hour extra for early arrival. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!$$$$ is their goal. They want you to rent their golf carts because everything is so spread out. We have been full timing for two years. This is the worst experience we ever had. No water hookup. We called Kate Tuxhorn the owner and she said sorry i forgot to tell you that you have to tap in your neighbors water. Her husband Jeff Tuxhorn has many bad reviews too.Leaving we hit that huge tree that we had no way to turn. Thousands of$ damage.

    Cahokia RV Parque

Very nice park near downtown St. Louis

Cahokia RV Parque is a nice RV park only 15 minutes from downtown St. Louis. We stayed two nights and really enjoyed the St. Louis area. I compared the park to two others near St. Louis on the Illinois side and found this one to be the most pleasant. Most of the sites are sunny, but some have shade. The park streets are asphalt, but the sites are gravel. The park is quiet. Gave it 4 stars for cleanliness due to the gravel sites. Otherwise, the park was clean.

Stayed in campsite#34 which has plenty of shade. It was a gravel back-in site with enough parking for my TT and truck with plenty of grass on either side. The site included: picnic table on a concrete patio, fire ring, and small trees. Utilities were located closer to the front of the site: 20A/30A/50A electric water, sewer. Site was pretty level. Awning faced east so we didnt get the evening sun shining underneath, but a tree prevented me from opening the awning. It didnt matter because there was plenty of shade in the evening, but not much in the middle of the day. Nearest neighbor was close.

AT&T had 2 bars of 5G and Verizon 3 bars of LTE service. AT&T Speedtest 49.7 Mbps down, 3.35 Mbps up. Could not access the WiFi even though the password was on the info sheet.

Would stay here again.  We camped at Cahokia RV Parque in a Travel Trailer.

Guide to Shipman

RV campgrounds near Shipman, Illinois provide travelers with convenient options between St. Louis and Springfield. The region features relatively flat terrain with elevations around 500-600 feet above sea level and experiences four distinct seasons. Summer temperatures typically range from 75-90°F with moderate humidity, while spring and fall offer milder camping conditions with occasional precipitation.

What to do

Water activities at lakeside parks: St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park offers paddleboats, kayaks and canoes for rent along with fishing opportunities in their small lake. "The park/campground rents paddleboats, kayaks, and canoes in addition to different kinds of bikes. There is a walking trail around the lake (4+ miles). There is fish in the lake and you are allowed to fish," notes one visitor.

Historic exploration in St. Charles: Sundermeier RV Park provides direct access to the Katy Trail for cycling enthusiasts. "You can literally be parked right at the Katy Trail. Through the gate at the rear of the campground, and you can bike for miles. Easy ride in to St. Charles a wonderful historic river town on the Missouri River. Great shops, great restaurants," shares Cheryl K.

Gateway Arch National Park visits: Day trips to St. Louis attractions are popular among campers staying at Draft Kings at Casino Queen RV Park. A visitor reports, "Stayed three nights and saw all the sites: The Gateway Arch, Union Station, aquarium, botanical gardens, Anheiser Busch brewery tour, Guido's restaurant."

What campers like

Level sites with concrete pads: Most campgrounds in the region provide well-maintained, level camping spots. At Cahokia RV Parque, campers appreciate the "nice level concrete pad with a picnic table." Another visitor mentioned, "The grounds, pool, laundry, and bathrooms were all in excellent repair and clean."

Convenient highway access: Many RV parks offer easy interstate access for travelers passing through. Kamper Kompanion in Litchfield sits "right by highway, pulled in after dark and they met us to show us to the site and got us settled. Easy pull thru site with 40' and toad."

Proximity to metropolitan amenities: Staying close to urban areas means having restaurants and services nearby. At The Double J Campground and RV Park, visitors enjoy being "just south of Springfield, right next to the interstate" with "nice walking trail, swimming pool, playground, outdoor checkers, basketball court, put put golf."

What you should know

Variable noise levels: Some campgrounds experience noise from nearby transportation corridors. According to a visitor at Sundermeier RV Park, "Only downside is the train and airplane noise. Otherwise would be a 5 star for me." Another camper noted, "Below the pattern for STL and railroad crosses Missouri River nearby so you could call it noisy but didn't bother us much."

Security considerations: Several RV parks feature gated access for added security. At Casino Queen RV Park, "You need a code to get in the gate, so you must register in advance... Security is proactive in patrols and are friendly and helpful."

Off-season limitations: Winter camping options are somewhat restricted. The Double J Campground remains open year-round with "full hook ups, great pull through sites," while Draft Kings at Casino Queen operates only "from April 1 to September 30."

Tips for camping with families

Look for dedicated recreational facilities: Families will find kid-friendly amenities at select campgrounds. "This park is beautiful. Located about 25 minutes from St Louis. They have paddle boats and bikes and group bikes for rental. Located right next to a lake with a lot of RV and tent camping spots. Kids had a blast riding bikes. Even finding a few little frogs jumping around and fireflies at night," reports a visitor at St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park.

Check pool availability: Summer visitors appreciate swimming options. The Double J Campground offers "a huge pool, putt-putt golf, and washer and dryers," making it family-friendly during hot weather.

Consider noise sensitivity: Transportation noise affects some campgrounds more than others. One visitor to St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park mentioned, "The grounds are clean and pleasant, if a bit sparse with little shade. This will change over the subsequent years, however, as there are many relatively newly planted trees."

Tips from RVers

Utilities placement varies: Be prepared with adequate connection equipment. At Casino Queen RV Park, "Utilities are set up weird on all sites - Water and electric are at the very rear of the site by the sewer, so you will need a decent sized hose to reach if your water intake is in the front of your camper."

Water pressure considerations: Covered Bridge RV Park & Storage provides full hookups but has variable site conditions. "Back in sites are paved and level with additional space for vehicle parking but the property in general is mostly concrete - no green space for kids or pets. No restrooms or showers and very weak WiFi. Brand new laundry facility."

Advanced reservations recommended: Popular campgrounds fill quickly, especially during peak season. At The Double J Campground, one visitor called "last minute on a Saturday, I had to leave a message and was hoping someone would call me back! Within five minutes, I had a call back and a lovely pull through site reserved for a one night stay on a Saturday night in May!"
