Cahokia RV Parque allows pets at both RV sites and cabins, with water and electric hookups available. Horseshoe Lake State Park Campground permits pets throughout its primitive camping areas for just $8 per night, making it one of the most affordable pet-friendly options in the region. Eldon Hazlet State Recreation Area offers year-round pet-friendly camping with access to trails where leashed dogs can explore. The campground's spacious sites provide ample room for pets to rest beside tents or RVs. Security patrols regularly monitor campgrounds like Horseshoe Lake, ensuring rules regarding pets are followed without being intrusive. The Casino Queen RV Park's convenient location offers views of the St. Louis Arch, though train noise may disturb sensitive pets throughout the night. Most campgrounds in the area maintain standard pet policies requiring leashes no longer than 6 feet and immediate waste cleanup.

      St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park

      Heaven!

This park is very well kept, the natural lake is completely surrounded by a paved trail to bike, run, or walk on! They have a fenced in dog park and level sites!

Good location for exploring St. Louis

This campground is fairly close to downtown and very close to lots of shopping. A great place to stay to stock up on supplies before heading west. We stayed 2 nights to have a day to visit the Gateway Arch. The pool and playground seemed nice even though we didn’t use them. Nice dog park for smaller dogs. Several cabins are available along with RV sites. The tent sites are next to a river under large trees. Plenty of spaces for big rigs. Our site was no very level but nothing our auto-leveling couldn’t handle.

      KOA in Eureka, MO

Nice, clean campground, level pull-through sites - ours had a paver-patio and grill, a lot of shade throughout, dog park, and a creek to explore. This was our 2nd time here. Close to Saint Louis, Six Flags, and hiking.

      St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park

      Convenient to St. Charles

Easy off I-370, campground is new and large. It is on a lake with bike trails, kayak rental, and kids splash pad. Staff were helpful. I received about 5 pieces of paper when checking in. You need a code to get into the dog park. Shopping nearby. Used this as a base to visit historic St Charles.

LEDLENDSER MH10 and KOA Route 66 review

      Campground review:

Once googling local campsites at the last minute for a weekend getaway with both dogs, we came route 66 campground. They have a dog park, rv hookup sites, electric tent sites and primitive sites. We stayed at a primitive tent site with both dogs. Site t13, which unfortunately was one of the very few camp spots with zero trees so we're unable to use our hammock. (Most of the other sites had great trees for hammock setups). Other amenities on the campground included a heated pool, bike rentals, basketball courts, a country store for firewood, supplies, and gift shop. Needless to say this was not a "roughing" it type campground. For the dogs though, we were right across from the creek to take them down to play. Also, kids were catching crawdads! Great campsite that is pet friendly and very family friendly!

      Product review:

      Ledlenser mh10

This headlamp first of all comes with a 7 year warrantly(must register the product)! On top of that all these features: a rechargeable battery with a USB port. Rapid focus system with 2 tough button on headlamp to adjust lighting. The strap is very easy to adjust and fit to comfort, lightweight despise the battery pack attached to the headlamp. The lighting is phenomenal! You also get a green and red additional glass lense that you can screw into the front of your lense for any activity and not disturb others with a bright white light. Me, howsoever, I was able to on this camping trip, use the headlamp to continue to play a game of cornhole... and winter, might I add.. thanks to my headlamp for optimal vision;). Included are some pictures of how bright and fitting the headlamp is. I was highly impressed! Never once did it slip... which I have struggled with in many headlamps that it seems the lamp is too heavy and slowly makes its way down your forehead. The Ledlenser stays in place and is very comfortable! Also, doesn't leave that weird band line on your head... at least I didn't experience it like I have on others. Very impressed overall!

      Lots to do

There is lots to do at this park. There is a pool, bike rentals, dog park, movie night, basketball court, and more. You can bring your RV, travel trailer, tent camp, or stay in a cabin. Most of the sites are in the shade and are fairly level. The bathrooms were clean and well maintained. They have Ele/water and Ele/water/sewer sites. It is close to train tracks, but I only heard the train once at night. It’s close to Six Flags, shopping, and restaurants. They even have a cute caboose cabin you can stay in.

      St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park

      Really nice overnight stay

We spent one night here (May 11, 2022). This is a very nice easy access CG with wide, spacious, and level pull through and back-in gravel sites (25 paved). There are a lot of activities available: archery, boating, fishing, dog park, biking (wish I brought my mtn bike), walking, playground, horseshoes and volleyball. We did not have time to visit the clubhouse and did not make use of the bathrooms or showers. It is a great base camp to visit the area. The WiFi was great as was cell phone reception. We would definitely stay here again.

    Guide to Mascoutah

Mascoutah camping sites operate in a continental climate with hot summers reaching 85-90°F and mild winters around 45°F during the day. The Mississippi River floodplain influences water levels at several campgrounds, especially after spring rain events. Campsites range from $8 primitive tent sites to full-hookup RV sites around $35-70 per night depending on season and amenities.

    What to do

Fishing opportunities: Horseshoe Lake State Park Campground provides access to one of the region's most productive fishing waters. "Nice lake for fishing and boating," notes Annie C., who appreciated the security presence that makes solo fishing trips feel safer. The park offers shoreline access points and boat launches for anglers.

Cycling routes: Paved bike trails at Dam West Campground connect campsites to the marina and other recreation areas. "The campground is perfect for taking long walks and bike riding," reports Rhonda B. A complete loop around the campground provides approximately 3 miles of flat, family-friendly cycling.

Wildlife viewing: Fall and winter months bring significant bird migrations. "This is a great place when the geese are migrating thru," mentions Kent B. about Horseshoe Lake. Whip-poor-will calls can be heard at dusk around Washington County Lake, where the distance from urban areas creates darker skies for stargazing during summer months.

    What campers like

Shower facilities: Campers consistently praise the shower buildings at Dam West Spillway for their cleanliness and comfort. "CLEAN (and air conditioned) bath houses," writes Patti P., while heather S. notes they are "FABULOUS, and super clean. They smell like the laundry facilities as well."

Affordability: Washington County State Recreation Area offers electric hookup sites at below-average rates. "Affordable overnight stay with electric. Beautiful lake. Friendly campers and hosts," reports Angie A. Horseshoe Lake remains one of the most economical options, with Helge Vandel J. noting, "Great spot and great value... access to drinking water and waste water dump for just 8$."

Level campsites: Many RV sites throughout the region feature concrete pads designed for stability. "Sites are concrete and gravel, very urban camping," Josh F. mentions about Casino Queen RV Park. At Cahokia RV Parque, Robert O. found "level gravel sites with FHU near downtown St. Louis," making setup faster for travelers with limited time.

    What you should know

Train noise: Several campgrounds experience periodic train disturbances. At Draft Kings at Casino Queen RV Park, Josh F. warns there are "trains every 15-30 minutes all day long." Jennifer B. notes at Granite City KOA that "trains pass 2 blocks away several times nightly, but after the first night you won't notice."

Reservation requirements: Popular campgrounds fill quickly, especially during summer weekends. "Reservable sites are hard to book," cautions Laureen M. about Dam West Campground, while Brooke C. advises to "reserve a spot ahead of time and do some months in advance if possible."

Urban surroundings: Several campgrounds near Mascoutah are situated in industrial or urban environments. Cahokia RV Parque is described by Roger G. as "not a rural campground. It's a centrally located campground in the Metro St. Louis area." This makes them convenient for city visits but less suitable for nature immersion.

    Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Coles Creek Recreation Area offers dedicated family-friendly amenities. "There is a beach for campers to use, and a really nice playground," according to Chelsea D. Rhonda B. mentions it's a "great campground for taking long walks and bike rides," providing multiple activity options for children.

Swimming options: Several dog-friendly campgrounds near Mascoutah include swimming areas for summer relief from heat. Carol B. recommends Coles Creek for its "plenty of hiking area, fishing area, and playing/swimming area for children." Carlyle Lake facilities often include designated swimming beaches with limited lifeguard coverage from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Halloween festivities: Families with children should consider autumn camping at Eldon Hazlet State Recreation Area. Aimee T. details their "huge Halloween event every year where people decorate their sites (pretty extensively) and there's a haunted house, then kids trick or treat from site to site." The campground also organizes pumpkin painting contests and other seasonal activities during October.

    Tips from RVers

Utility placement: Consider the location of hookups when selecting RV sites in the region. Josh F. notes at Casino Queen RV Park that "utilities are set up weird on all sites - Water and electric are at the very rear of the site by the sewer, so you will need a decent sized hose to reach if your water intake is in the front of your camper."

Local services: Some campgrounds lack on-site amenities, requiring preparation. "We chose Cahokia RV Park because of its close proximity to St. Louis Missouri," explains Carlyne F., noting this convenience offsets some facility limitations. Tom B. adds the campground "has a shuttle to the various tourist attractions, just ask the staff at the office for details."

Dump station capacity: Larger campgrounds may have limited dump facilities relative to their size. About Scott AFB FamCamp, MGySgt K. advises, "One dump station that is clean, black water hose provided, but used a lot. Expect to wait your turn." Similarly, Amurican L. mentions Coles Creek has just "ONE dump station for this massive campground," suggesting morning departures to avoid lines.
