Nice campground/IL state park

Nice sites in the Potawatomi Campground! Would have been a 5 star but no Campground host on duty the night I camped and no toilet paper in the toilet in the Oak loop. Can't make a reservation day before camping so that kinda sucks as everything is walk in... Am on a "purpose trip" and not a…

Clean and quiet campground

Lovely campground north west of Chicago. The shower facilities were clean and the staff very friendly.

Large private sites

Beautiful shady campground with large private sites.  Sites 111 - 139 are more open with less privacy, but they have lake views and are near the concession stand and boat launch.  Sites in the other loops are all very shaded and private.  The shower houses were clean and large, in good repair.  The…

Nonexistent camping

I followed the coordinates provided and they led me to a person's driveway, but then I found the actual silver springs state park, and could not find a camping area anywhere around there. It may exist, but not in this version of the universe. There were strict "no pets off leash" signs, and "no…

Small treasure in Illinois, near Illinois RR Museum

We came across this one day during a day hike in the Marengo Ridge Forest preserve in McHenry county. It's about 90 mins NW of Chicago. The trails are both wooded and hilly, but there's also a large prairie nature walk.
The campground has many secluded walk-in tent sites and a variety of sites…

  • we had to push our little trailer up the hill, but the site was very pleasant and secluded

Friendly staff & nice trails

Staff was very friendly. Easy access to nice hiking trails. Bathrooms and showers decent. No concessions, but there is a place in the office to get Pepsi products. Would definitely stay here again if outside of Chicago area!

Rude Customer Service

The woman who answered the phone was very rude and refused to answer simple questions for us. Originally told us there were spots available then turned us away when we asked questions because we were not “self-sufficient” enough for their camp. Do not camp here!!

Inexpensive and close to Chicago for quick weekend getaways

This is a great low cost, low frills state park. It’s pretty close to Chicago so it works for weekend getaways. We stayed in the wooded loop. It’s rustic without electric/water hookups. The other loop looked more set up for rvs.

We loved the shade of the wooded section. We had a spot that…

Never Again!

We booked here sight unseen due to temporary employment in the area.

What a terrible mistake.

The best thing was, that there is "full hook up" here???

This place is old and run-down to say the least, there's not a flat spot on any of the roads. The sites are dirt with something green in…

Month to Month BEWARE!

December 2020, we toured this KOA Holiday in Kankakee, Illinois for a long-term stay.

We noticed a few trailers with a lot of junk piled all around their units. When we inquired about them, were were told that those people were being evicted and would be soon gone. Great, since our site was…

Stay for the night only

Very difficult to contact staff to book reservation. When we got there they told us they double booked us and requested we move after we got set up. We declined as there were other spots open and we were staying for under 24 hours. Concessions were scarce. No water or dumping hook up. Electric…

Great campground just outside of Chicago!

Did a quick stay with the kids for a Friday and Saturday night. A little bit smaller of a campground with regards to site space, but that's about the only thing 'bad' to say, and it's not really a bad thing at all.

Staff was very friendly and the facilities were kept very clean.

Plenty for…

Trees and Rules

Close to Indiana Dunes National Park. Easy access. Lots of rules thrown at you from the get go. Don’t park on the grass, Don’t drive over 5 mph, Don’t have alcohol outside your space. Lots of rules. Few smiling faces. Lots of trees. A mix of semi permanent residents and transient sites

pretty and spacious, great for family gatherings

First off, we didn't realize this was a walk-in campground, the details on the Will county site were vague, and the satellite photo showed a paved road.  The road is a path, so the sites are ADA accessible (two of the four sites are paved as well).
We have a small, motorcycle trailer so we…

Peaceful and quiet

I camped here in early may of 2021. It was well kept, peaceful and nearly empty. The hosts were great and the views were fantastic. It's hard to tell how this place is during peak, but I'd stay in a heat beat during off peak season.
