Three Island Crossing State Park Campground

Nice cabin, but not much to do after 5 pm and too expensive

We knew it would be hot when we visited this campground, so sprang ($55) for one of the few cabins with air conditioning. It was clean, small, and just fine. But there wasn't too much to do after 5 pm when the visitor center closed. No playground we could find, and the water isn't safe to swim in. Once the visitor center opened up in the morning though, that was an absolute gem. Would probably stay here again but just get a regular camp site. The cabin wasn't really worth it.

    Miracle Hot Springs

Not for RVs or for people concerned about Covid

We stayed at Miracle as Banbury was fully booked for RVs sites. However, it was great to be steps away from the river.

No sewage but had electric and water (that leaked; rented spot 4 that many ppl thought was a drive through lane).

No one in their hot springs (including staff) were wearing masks or setting suicidal distant rules. No Verizon reception until you drive up the hill a little bit. Oh, and you'll have a great breeze of manure all day long.

    Rock Creek RV Park

Love this park! First come, first served

OVERVIEW: The RV park is part of the county park- beautiful walking/bike path with the creek flowing through. Our back in site was nearby our neighbors, but felt spacious because it's an end site directly across from the camp host. Easy to navigate the concreted roads and the space was easy to back in to.

Hard to beat $20 for W&E hookups. It's a quiet campground. Trashcans all around the park conveniently. The area as you drive up seems a bit run down, but as soon as you get into the park, it's great.

There is a free public dump station 1 mile away in town since there is not a dump station on site.

The park has unisex toilets around the grounds that are vault toilets so nothing fancy. Picnic tables, lots of green space around and the trail goes for at least 2 miles round trip.

CELL SERVICE: We work remote- We used out AT&T hotspot and had an awesome connection. Reliable for video calls all week. Gradely harshly, giving 4 out 5, only because they don't have wifi and also ideally would have been nice to have sanitizer(especially this year) in the bathrooms. Everything was was lovely.

GUEST SERVICES: Camphost was super friendly. We came in around 8:30pm on a Monday night with fingers crossed we would find a spot.. and we did with no problem. If it looks full as you enter, keep going past the camphost and you will find the pull thru options. The camp host came over on his gator and shined his lights to help us as we set up. He was very kind.

NEARBY: Close to downtown Twin Falls with some cute coffee shops and breweries. Also about 50 mins away there is a place called Mammoth Cave that might be the most interesting cave experience you ever experience. I highly encourage it.

Trail Break RV Park & Campground

Listen to the sounds of highway cars and trains all night

We originally planned to camp at Three Island state park, based on the positive Dyrt reviews, but when we arrived there, the posted fee for sites was $34, which we found too expensive for our mere purpose of sleeping and then hitting the road again. We remembered a sign on the way to the park that read "Camping - RV + Tents. Less $$$ than state park." So we figured, heck, let's just go there. We read quickly online that the prices for tent sites are $15. Perfect! We arrive at 11pm, which yes, it's late, BUT the office sign was blinking "OPEN." So we thought no problem. We ring the camp host. He sounds grumpy but arrives a couple minutes later. He is definitely grumpy. He tells me they do accept credit card and it will be $25. I ask for clarification given the listed price online. He says "New policy as of 6 days ago. I'm sick of people arriving late at all hours." Fair enough...but turn off the "Open" sign. I agree to pay it, we're exhausted at this point, and at least the campground has showers.

Some pros: very close to highway

Some cons: very close to the highway and a train track.

The tenting experience: we listening all night to the sound of bug zappers, hourly train whistles, and speeding cars. See the video for reference. The tent sites were flat at least. A basic grill but no picnic table provided. It is probably convenient to have the wifi and laundry on-site, but we wouldn't know because we left as soon as we could after a near sleepless night.

Trail Break RV Park & Campground

Clean, simple and decent priced sites

Tent sites and rv sites available!

Tent sites are on a nice large green patch of grass. Park right next to your tent.

The bathrooms are locked for paying campers only and have a sink, shower and toilet. Very clean and nice.

There is also a locked washroom for paying campers to use as well.

The owners live on site and are very friendly and are happy to help with questions!

Very decently priced when all you need is somewhere to set up your tent for the night and get up and go in the morning. Would also be great for staying longer!

Located in the town of Glenn’s ferry but still far enough away from public so you don’t feel like you’re camping in town.

Restuarants, gas stations and a few convenience stores within a 10 minute drive of the campground.

Interesting history is available to see close to the campground as well. Learn about the Oregon trail!

    Balanced Rock County Park

    Balance Rock

I love getting away with the family here. No phone service.. I plan a trip here 2-3 times a year just for that reason. Nothing better than to put the distractions away for a couple days. One of the most beautiful and quiet places I have ever stayed. Little stream for kayaking or fishing. No power sites but the sites all have a grill and fire pit. Bathrooms but no showers.

    Balanced Rock County Park

    What a find!

This was the best find of our trip from San Francisco to Yellowstone. It’s a little off the beaten path and seemingly in the middle of nowhere.

Room for about 12-15 camping sites, many having fire pits, a few with tables. All are along a grassy area and river front.

We showed up at 4pm on a Saturday and found a spot for our 30’ RV. It seems like it’s heavily used during the days but most clear out around sunset.

We were able to fish, kayak, hike, have a killer campfire, and check out the stars. Great, free river front camping.

Guide to Gooding

Campgrounds near Gooding, Idaho range from developed parks to dispersed sites along the Snake River. Located in the Magic Valley at 3,573 feet elevation, the area experiences hot summers with temperatures often exceeding 90°F and cold winters that can dip below freezing. Tent camping and yurt options remain popular from late April through October, with limited winter camping availability at a few year-round facilities.

What to do

Fishing access: Four seasons: At Balanced Rock County Park, campers can fish directly from their sites along the creek. One visitor noted, "We were able to fish, kayak, hike, have a killer campfire, and check out the stars. Great, free river front camping."

Alligator viewing: Unexpected desert wildlife: Miracle Hot Springs maintains a small alligator enclosure that surprises many visitors. "There is an alligator on the property in the back, really cool for the kids," shares one camper, making this a unique stop when exploring yurt camping options around Gooding, Idaho.

Historical exploration: Oregon Trail territory: Three Island Crossing State Park Campground offers camping near significant pioneer history. "This park had an awesome museum area," reports a visitor. The interpretive center provides context about the dangerous river crossing pioneers faced.

Paddleboarding: Snake River access: From riverside campsites, paddlers can explore the waterways. A camper at 1000 Springs Resort mentioned, "The water was wonderful and we were able to paddle over to Ritter island on our paddle boards." This activity provides excellent views of the thousand springs area from the water.

What campers like

Natural hot springs access: Various temperatures: Miracle Hot Springs offers multiple soaking options beyond the glamping domes. A visitor highlighted, "They have different pools of varying temperatures, alligators, trees and plenty of room for each site. I stop by every time I swing through Idaho."

Canyon views: Dramatic rock formations: Balanced Rock County Park sits within an impressive canyon. "An absolutely beautiful canyon creek side campground. Water and bathroom available. Campsites have covered picnic table and fire rings. The canyons walls are incredible," writes one camper who enjoyed the geology.

Winery proximity: Adult beverage options: Three Island Crossing provides easy access to local wineries. A camper mentioned, "Close to town and a winery nearby." This offers a different experience from the typical outdoor recreation focus of most camping trips around Gooding.

Year-round camping availability: Winter options: While many sites close seasonally, Rock Creek RV Park remains open through colder months. A camper noted its practicality: "Great spot to park for the night. We have stayed here 3 times as it is in route from Washington to Colorado."

What you should know

Budget options: Free camping available: While glamping options can be expensive, budget travelers can find free alternatives. One camper at Balanced Rock County Park shared, "We spent a couple nights here the weekend before Thanksgiving. It was quiet and clean. There wasn't any cell or wifi service or reception in the canyon."

Limited connectivity: Plan accordingly: Cell coverage varies dramatically throughout the Snake River canyon. A visitor to 1000 Springs Resort warned, "Cell service anywhere in the canyon is sketchy at best. The campground provides WiFi—but it doesn't carry strength very far past the main building."

Extreme weather: High winds possible: Canyon camping around Gooding can experience sudden weather changes. A reviewer noted, "While totally not the fault of management, the campground can be subject to really high winds. During our stay a full night and day of high winds caused many tents to completely collapse. Be advised so you can be prepared."

Water quality concerns: Some campgrounds provide water of questionable quality. A camper at Balanced Rock mentioned, "Water spigots available but conflicting reports on their safety." Bringing your own drinking water is advisable when yurt camping near Gooding, Idaho.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly amenities: Water activities: Twin Falls-Jerome KOA offers numerous family activities. A visitor shared, "We really have enjoyed staying here. Kids love all the games mini golf, gaga ball and toys. We enjoyed the wildlife and hearing and seeing a huge owl outside our camp was a great touch."

Educational opportunities: Oregon Trail history: Three Island State Park provides learning experiences about pioneer history. "Very nice, and well kept. Clean bathrooms and a lot of history with and Interpretive Center in the park," explains a visitor who appreciated the educational component.

Indoor hot spring swimming: Weather backup: When tent or yurt camping near Gooding gets too hot or cold, indoor geothermal pools offer relief. A camper noted, "The weather was chilly the day were were there, so the indoor geothermal pool and tubs were the ticket. Our kids loved it!"

Open space activities: Room to play: Anderson Camp RV Park provides ample recreation space. A reviewer mentioned, "Lots to do for young children with a large playground, two shallow (2-3ft?) small outdoor pools, one with a water slide, putt putt golf, and snack bar."

Tips from RVers

Water pressure considerations: Some campgrounds have infrastructure challenges. A camper at 1000 Springs Resort reported, "We had no problems with water pressure, no problems with electricity. The only thing I would point out is that if you are on the last row, that makes you closest to the highway and you will hear the highway noise starting at about 5:30 in the morning."

Free dump station location: When staying at facilities without on-site sewer connections, plan accordingly. A visitor to Rock Creek RV Park explained, "There is no dump onsite, but Twin Falls has a free one a mile away, so as long as you plan accordingly, you should be fine!"

Level site selection: Several campgrounds have uneven terrain. One camper observed, "Spots were a little uneven and made our stairs a lot higher then we like." Bringing leveling blocks is recommended for many RV sites around Gooding.
