    Elk Bend RV Park

    Peaceful and Idyllic

We set up our daughter in our Super C here for 2 months while she worked in nearby Salmon during the busy season. We were so happy with the beautiful scenery, quiet grounds, and excellent service from the owner. If she ever needed anything, they were happy to help. There is a clean laundry room, showers, and bathrooms onsite, and more than enough space for a 40 foot RV. There are shade trees, some grass sites, some landscape rock sites, picnic tables, a gas firepit, and an onsite mini-store if you need. The owner waited for us until we arrived, helped us get our bearings, and then grew to be a friend. If you are needing to camp(even in a tent!) anywhere near Salmon, Idaho, you need to go and see Stewart at Elk Bend RV Park. Say hi to the deer that roam the area, too, or walk across the street and listen to the Salmon River. Just a beautiful area! Sites with full hookups and not. Would not hesitate to recommend Elk Bend RV Park.

    Pet Friendly!

    Anglers Roost Campground

    Near the Bitterroot River

This is not a fancy campground but we loved it. It’s on the Bitterroot River with the Bitterroot Mtns behind you and the Sapphire in front. The spaces are on the grass with full hook ups. They have a little store for groceries and Sunday’s and sell propane. The nights are dark and star gazing is wonderful. Hamilton MT is 2 miles away with all amenities and if you like craft beer, there are two breweries. There are also some sites right on the River but they are not full hook up.

    Lovely Spot/some deferred maintenance

We stayed in spot number 12. Full hook ups. Would have preferred to stay closer to the river but we were told that it wasn’t available, but I never saw anybody park there. It would’ve been cheaper, and I didn’t need for hook ups. They were polite and nice, they ask you not to put out mats outside your camper because they are trying to regrow the lawn.

Nice place to stop on road trip

We stopped here to sleep on our way to Glacier NP. It was easy to find but off the main road and quiet. Very clean campsites with fire pits and trash cans. We drove around the campsite before we left, all the sites were camper trailer friendly and had grassy areas for tents. All for $5

River's Fork Lodge & RV Park

    Hidden Gem

What an unbelievable place. Found this place on a total random pick. I was actually a little concerned about the cell/WiFi ability with being so potential remote. When we booked our RV spot with Porter he mentioned that Verizon cell service wasn’t very good but they did offer free WiFi which was extremely important as my wife needed it for work. When we arrived we found zero cell service but the WiFi was a savor. Now depending of what your here for no cell and WiFi could be just fine, I surely enjoyed the seclusion and being disconnected from the world.

We stayed in site #2 pretty close to the lodge which I think helped with the WiFi signal. The sites are large and easily fit our 28’ trailer and truck. Definitely could fit any size class A rig. There are full hookups at each site 20, 30, and 50amp at each site as well I believe. Not sure if you can get any closer to the river. The back of the trailer was probably less than 10 ft. to the river. Outstanding view.

The fishing was spot on, right on the river you don’t have to even drive anywhere if you don’t want. They also offer kayak rentals. Unfortunately I didn’t realize how warm, calm, and popular the river was. Next time we come back we will definitely float the river.

If there was really anything they could add, would possibly be something for kids to do. Just as a family of four with a 3 and 6 year old, they can only fish so much.

But over all 5 star, unfortunately this place won’t stay a hidden gem for much longer, can’t wait to come back. A huge thanks to Porter again!

    RV Park on the River

This is not really our type of camping spot. It’s more of an RV park than a camping spot, but for what it is, it’s nice. They have spots right on the Bitterroot River. It’s a bit crowded. We were right on top of 2 other campgrounds, but some spots are bigger than others. Look at their map before selecting a site.

Still, the facilities were clean, customer service was great, the location was convenient to many good fly fishing rivers, and we had WiFi, which we hadn’t had for weeks in our previous camping locations.

    Wagonhammer RV Park & Campground

Nestled in by the Salmon River

This is a cozy little campground about 20 minutes outside Salmon, ID. It's located directly on the Salmon River. It's a well-run site, is clean and has full hookups, laundry, a store, etc... If you're traveling north along the Salmon River, it's a good place to spend the night before heading up over the pass towards Lolo and Missoula, MT. No cell service, but serviceable WiFi, and its location on the river is excellent for anglers and those looking to enjoy the river. Spaces are a little tight, and there are definitely other boondocking sites along the river in this area, Wagonhammer provides a nice spot for those looking for the comforts of home while nestled in the wilderness. It's a quiet, calm, and safe place for travelers staying in everything from tents to enormous RV's.

    Tower Rock Recreation Site

    Great little roadside park

$5 a night, no hookups or dump/water on site. Beautiful setting. Not great but usable Verizon and T-Mobile cell service. Loop is a bit tight in spots so I wouldn't recommend it for a large 5'er or motorhome.

    Black Bear Campground

    Quiet, small campground

Although right off the road, there isn't much road noise due to not much traffic. You have access to the creek with most sites(look for the trail in the back of your site). Bugs can be an issue in season, so keep that in mind.

It looks like you could get an RV in here with no issue... but there are no hookups of any kind, no potable water, and no trash service so pack it out.

I prefer secluded/private places. I would definitely come back.

Nice to be by the river

We had a lovely site that was close to the Wise River. Even with a full camp, the ambient sound of the river shielded the sounds of people talking or kids playing. The bathroom facilities were clean. Most campsites had some shade for either sitting or having a tent. Most people were in self sufficient RVs since there are not hookups. The campground also had a water pump with clean and very cold water.

    Lake Como Campground

Nice sites, mostly tree's, friendly hosts

There are really 4 camp grounds at Lake Como, the lower campground which has hookups such as water and electric, the sites are paved. This campground is usually full, but if you get a spot it's a wonderful campground. Another campground at Lake Como is Three Frogs. This campground doesn't offer any type of hookups, no paved sites. I like this one better then the lower because I feel the sites are more spread out. Neither of these two are overly "buggy" as well. The other two campgrounds at Lake Como are Three Sisters Group Site and the Rock Creek Horse Camp.

    Fantastic

This is a beautiful campground at higher elevation. The wildflowers were amazing in early July. There were a good amount of spots for tents and rvs. Its up high in elevation so it's hard work on the engine towing a trailer up there but worth it to take it slow. Vault toilets were clean and you can hand pump drinking water. A really lovely place!

Pleasent small BLM Campground on Big Hole river

Dicky Bridge Campground is a small BLM campground located near the Big Hole River, just off of Montana Highway 43. This 10 site campground is well shaded by large pine trees. None of the site sit on the river as a forest service road runs between the campground and the river. The site does have a dirt boat ramp and a larger parking area for vehicles and their boat trailers. All sites have level gravel parking pads, picnic tables and fire rings. Campground has pit toilets. No water or trash service at this campground, but the price is great at$0.00.

    Beautiful!

Large, flat sites - many of which are right on the water.  Gorgeous views with the lakes nestled between mountains!  Plenty of space between sites.  Great hiking trail.  We didn't fish, but we watched others catch many trout out of kayaks with fly rods.  There were about ten sites (and the cabin) full while we were there over a weekend.  Vault toilets.  No hook-ups.  Long, bumpy road going in and out.

    Schumaker Campground

Nice campground located high in the bitterroot mountains.

It is uncommon to be able to drive this high into the mountains. These facilities and roads to them probably exist because of a history of human activity around this site. Lower twin lake(and some others in the area) are created by human made dams.

Schumacher is a loop of about 12 sites in open pine forest. Sites have picknick table, fire pit, and a tent pad. Most also have space for additional tents. There are two vault toilets, single seat. No water. Camps on the lake side are about 200 ft away with trails leading down to the shoreline.

Further down the road that runs west of Lower Twin Lake are three more sites, set closer to the water. Outhouse for these are further along the road to the trail head.

Lower Twin Lake, though constructed by a dam, is reasonable beautiful. There are pine trees around the lake, some meadows along the east shore, and round, rocky peaks around the basin.

The road in is 20 miles of dirt in good condition. I could have made it with my Mini but the Honda CR-V was more comfortable. The road is narrow enough that when meeting oncoming traffic both need to come to a near stop and pass carefully. In a few places, one or the other must back to the closest wide spot. We passed a few people pulling trailers. Not sure if they were all the way up tot Schumaker, but could have been. Near Schumaker are some trail heads that people drive stock trailers to. So, it is a long dirt road but most cars can make it as well as people experienced driving their RV on forest service roads.

Along the road there were multiple places for dispersed camping, including one official dispersed site. On a Sunday afternoon these were 80% full.

To my surprise, Schumaker was nearly empty. There were a couple day-visit groups. On our first night there was only one other group in the camp ground and on our second 4 other groups. I suspect it was full over the weekend, which would imply it is mainly used by locals.

If Schumaker is full the near by Bears Creek Pass dispersed camping will probably have space for you.

We have the enjoyments of a nearly empty campground in sub-alpine terrain. The lake is warm enough to swim in. There are a couple trail heads for hiking near by.

On the down side, there are lots of bugs and the weather is warm. Horse flies, black flies, and mosquitoes are all out during the day. The evening mosquiting hour is vicious. I can’t speculate about bugs in other times in the season but this year late July is bad. Despite our equipment, hanging out in camp is not comfortable.

We spend two nights and decide to move on in hopes of finding fewer bugs, maybe at a lower elevation.

    Nice spot on river

We have done only boondocking but were tired and wanted proximity to town. A few spots left and asked for one on the river, which had its own deck. Kind of shocked it was $45 a night after so much free camping !

But nice to have hookups and our own deck looking over the river watching osprey fish

Host is a bit peculiar, almost grumpy but if you chat for a bit he’s actually a wealth of local folklore Quiet enough. And felt private from other campers , so on a 12 night trip it was worth it. Walked to dinner at Shady Nook My second pic is a drive we took on Shoup Rd

Amazing nice small campground in the Pioneer Mountains

Fourth of July Campground is a nice campground set in a lodge pole pine and fir forest. This small six campsite campground is fully paved including the parking pads and has paved walking trails through the campground as well. Their is also day use only sites for those wanting to picnic with out having to occupy a campsite. This is a great campground and only$8 per night. All the campsites and day use sites have picnic tables and metal fire rings. Water is available from a handpump and the vault toilet is handicapped accessible. Be warned that there is no trash service so be prepared to pack out your trash. All the site in the campground are nicely spread apart. The campground is open in the off season, if you are able still able to access the campground. I visited in late November with no problem as the area had not yet received any snow. No fees or water in the off season, but the vault toilet was fully stocked.

    Fourth of July Campground

    Overnight

It is absolutely beautiful, and the ability to fall asleep under the stars while listening to the rushing river nearby is exactly why I would recommend other people stay here. It’s located pretty close to the Crystal Park entrance, and allows one to be a bit further away from the RVs and majority of the campers. We had a group of 8 people, and two camp sites was plenty. Some people hammocked & said the groves of trees were perfectly spaced for this, while others stayed in tents. There is a campfire with an attached grill, along with a nice picnic table.
