About

National Forest

Grandjean Campground is composed of 31 campsites near the border of the Sawtooth Wilderness and the Boise National Forest. All sites are first-come, first-serve. It is situated in an old growth ponderosa pine forest. The Idaho Centennial Trail heads south along the Payette River, ultimately reaching a lush alpine paradise filled with alpine lakes. Once in the lake area, you can complete the loop back to Grandjean. Sawtooth Lodge is one mile away. Natural hot springs are 1.5 mile away. Horse trips are operated out of the Sawtooth Lodge and there are 10 sites for horse campers. This is a terrific area for hiking and exploring the beautiful Sawtooth Wilderness.

Beautiful spot near hot springs

We loved everything about Grandjean campground. After a 20 minute drive on a narrow dirt road we discovered the best site. Nestled between a mountain stream and the Payette river the sounds of moving water drowned out all else. The Sawtooth lodge is nearby, but the best is the proximity to several hot springs. Move the rocks to control the water flow (and temp) and you will be treated to a true joy of nature.

Remote Car Camping

Grandjean has several campsites, some on the river, some not.  Some of the sites would accommodate smaller truck bed campers and maybe trailer campers.  We tent camp and needed the 4-wheel drive to get to the end of the road.  I didn't see any RV sites, there might be one or two around but its unlikely that there would be hookups of any kind.  There might be a restroom off the main road on the way toward Grandjean but there were none close to any of the campsites around us.  I would describe this as remote car camping.  Established tent sites and fire pits, beautiful scenery, privacy and not a lot of extras.   The Sawtooth Lodge is up the road and does offer RV space, tent camping and cabins.  I am speaking of the rustic camping sites between Highway 21 and the Sawtooth Lodge.

Lots of Great Sites

This may be one of my very favorite family campsites. The sites are large and well spaced enough that even on a full weekend it didn’t feel overly crowded. A river runs down one side of the campground and there’s lots of beautiful hiking. The camp hosts are wonderful. Wood was cheap. It’s a bumpy ride in on a one lane dirt road (for about 20 minutes) and got especially precarious when we had to pass another trailer with our own rig and literally 2 inches of clearance with no options to back or pull off. But as they say- all’s well that ends well!

Excellent camping!!

Beautiful campground as a whole, PLENTY of great lots (I was really surprised on how many really good spots there were), there’s a river at one end of the campground and trails on the other end. Plenty of space for our kids to literally run around not annoy other campers. You don’t have to travel far from the campground to find things to do or stay there and hike trails or play at the river. Natural hot springs are just a few minutes away. Great camp hosts when we were there. Nothing bad to say at all!

Great camping for all!

My family of five camped for a few nights and loved it all. There is hiking close by either good for kids up to challenging for adults. It’s right by a river, several good shaded sites and even large ones for horses. It’s close to natural hot springs too.

Small and perfect campground

I love this campground, I love the area. You can go on a hike, check out the Payette River and also dip in the Sacajawea Hot springs close by.
