    Point South KOA

    Excellent Stop tucked off I95

Stayed at #52 and it was very private, level, and clean!

The gravel kept the camper clean; the deck with bench, table and chairs, gas fire pit was super nice; the grill with picnic table were awesome. The plot abuts the grassy area but wasn’t too buggy.

We went on a walk with our girls around the camp site, to the doggy area (small bjt super cute with some see saws, etc.), around the lake, and read the historical signs. We checked out the giant chess board, playground, horse shoes, and corn hole.

COVID restrictions were really well explained. Masks suggested, pool sign up with rules posted. We signed up for 6:30 and the team thoroughly cleaned between us and the precious crew.

The food and store was super and reasonable.

Next time I will def check out the nightly wine or beer tasting.

Can’t say enough good things - will def be back!!

    Skidaway Island State Park Campground

    Beautiful Park in Great Location

This state park is close to a lot of things to do.  Very close to Wormslow Historic Site and Savannah.  The campground is really nice with large trees and lots of hanging moss.  We were in site 61 that was very deep and secluded with our picnic table set back from the road.  We had to park our camper crooked because of a tree and roots.  The bath house was nice and clean.  However the heat was broken on the hand blower in the women's side.

There are sites with full hook ups.  There are also nice trails with one that leads to an observation deck.  Also have bike rentals.

    Savannah South KOA

    Beautiful & Clean

This was our very first camping trip (2 adults, 2 kids & a Lab.) We arrived to friendly service & easily found our site (#6.) The tent sites are right on the water, which is home to swans, ducks, turtles & possibly gators too! The sandy pad for our tent was perfect, very level & comfortable. There was plenty of room for our big screened canopy, picnic table, chairs & fire ring. The views from the lake were wonderful & t made waking up to see the sunrise worth it every day.

This campground is about 30mins from Savannah & Tybee Island - both of which we visited & enjoyed.

The bathhouse & general store were very clean & located a short walk from the tent sites. There is also a playground & pool. The campground was quiet, we had no issues at all.

We will definitely be returning soon!

    Skidaway Island State Park Campground

    Lots of options

I stayed in a back in site in camping area 2. I would call it big rig challenging w/the narrow road and tight-ish back in. I enjoyed the trails & observation tower as well as the cute little shop where you check in. My friend joined me over the weekend & her kids really liked the All About Bats presentation & the playground. Lots of deer & other wildlife to be seen. Shaded sites & mine was full hookup. Pet friendly & the laundry facility takes credit cards. They ended up renting a yurt which was cool. There are also cabins but we didn’t see those.

River's End Campground & RV Park

River's End - Well Kept KOA

Mainly a RV park, but about a dozen tent pads (fine gravel, well kept, no trash) in grassy lots with picnic table and fire pit. Family style bathroom/ showers. Office with coffee, games, books. Host on golf cart was helpful with last minute arrival and places to eat on island. 3 block walk to beach. There was also a larger group camping area - saw a scout troop there - these sites had water and power.

    Skidaway Island State Park Campground

    Simply wonderful !

Skidaway Island SP is quite possibly the nicest state park camping facility we’ve yet to visit! The sites are beyond spacious and afford plenty of privacy - and the hookups were conveniently situated at both sites we utilized during our visit. Huge, level tent pads for tent camping are also provided, as are picnic tables and fire rings. Shower and toilet facilities were clean and in excellent repair. The brand-new visitors center is beautiful and staff were courteous & professional to a person! Bird life is abundant and we had deer show up every day to check on us. Hiking trails are outstanding and the picnic/playground areas are fantastic. Skidaway Island SP is a gem with the added bonus of being just a 15 minute drive to downtown Savannah - we will undoubtedly be returning!

    Skidaway Island State Park Campground

    Largest campsites, great separation

Arrived here for a four-night tent stay. Easy drive in from Tomoka State Park up I-95. Got the last spot at #62 which is very large and has a large tent pad. The electric and water hookups are on the edge of the street, so I had to use both the 75 and 25 foot extension cords to give power to the tent. There's a fire pit and a large picnic table. The restrooms are clean, as well as the laundry room. The dumpster and recycling bin are a bit far from 62, so bring your bicycle, lol. Deer were roaming the grounds in the early morning. Lots of birds singing at sunrise too. Great place. The 45-min drive up to Tybee Island Beach is totally worth it, with beautiful marshes and flatlands along the way. Beach photos included here.

    Skidaway Island State Park Campground

    Fantastic camping closer to Savannah

This state Park keeps a very nice huge campground. It is well maintained. Our site was next to a new bathhouse with individual rooms for showers and restrooms. The sites are very spacious with a tent pads, picnics tables and a fire ring. They have full service sites and water/electric sites as well as tent sites. Dump station available as well. A very quiet and dark campground 25 minutes to Savannah, 30 minutes to Tybee Island.

Guide to Rincon

Cabin rentals near Rincon, Georgia provide access to coastal Georgia's unique blend of maritime forest and salt marsh ecosystems. The area maintains a humid subtropical climate with temperatures ranging from 45°F in winter to 92°F in summer. Camping accommodations within 30 minutes of Rincon offer varying degrees of privacy, with some sites providing significant space between neighbors and others more tightly arranged.

What to do

Nature trails and wildlife viewing: At Skidaway Island State Park Campground, visitors can explore several accessible trails directly from the camping area. "There are a handful of nature trails that are easily accessible from the campground. The campground is also a short drive from Savannah, so it's a great base camp for exploring northeastern Georgia," notes Zach H. The park's trails offer opportunities to spot deer and other wildlife.

Historical exploration: Fort McAllister State Park Campground provides educational opportunities through its Civil War-era fort. "Visitor Center was really interesting and the staff were very knowledgeable and helpful," says Lisa P. The park hosts an annual Civil War reenactment that commemorates Sherman's last battle on his march to the sea.

Beach access: Cabins near Tybee Island provide convenient beach access. "Campground is awesome, well stocked little store, outside air pump, very clean bath houses, pool was super nice, beach access is a bike ride away," explains Joseph C. about River's End Campground. Many visitors use rental cabins in the Rincon area as a base for day trips to coastal destinations.

What campers like

Spacious sites: Many camping areas near Rincon feature well-spaced sites that provide privacy. "The spaces are very large and spread out. Many of the campsites have gorgeous Live Oak trees covered in Spanish Moss," reports Zach H. about Skidaway Island. This spacing allows for a more peaceful camping experience even when parks reach full capacity.

Clean facilities: River's End Campground & RV Park maintains high standards of cleanliness throughout its facilities. "SO CLEAN!! The workers here are friendly and work hard to keep everything nice and clean. The laundry here takes cards/tap and app pay which was great," says Elizabeth E. Visitors consistently note the well-maintained shower houses and common areas.

Convenient location: Rental cabins in the Rincon region provide strategic access to multiple destinations. "The area is convenient to downtown Savannah and not too far from Tybee Island. There are some easy nature trails we really enjoyed," reports Ashley A. This central location allows visitors to explore coastal attractions while returning to a quieter setting each evening.

What you should know

Gate restrictions: Some parks enforce strict entry times. "Gate locks at 10 pm which really is not enough time if you want a night downtown," warns Elizabeth E. about Skidaway Island. This is an important consideration for visitors planning evening activities in Savannah.

Wildlife considerations: Point South KOA and other area campgrounds contain natural bodies of water with wildlife. "The dog park is itty bitty which might prompt you to take a walk on the trail around a small lake...but remember where you are cause your dog is not the top of the food chain here! No swimming in that lake!" cautions Shelly S. Alligators are present in many water features throughout the region.

Weather impact: The coastal climate affects camping conditions. "It was pretty muddy...people were getting mud all over because of the snow. Not their fault but a hard rain would do the same. Poor drainage," notes Elizabeth E. Rental cabins provide shelter from these conditions but accessing amenities may still require navigating wet areas after rain.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly activities: Holbrook Pond Recreation Area offers multiple recreational options. "Large wooded space, free laundry, excellent showers in heated/air conditioned rooms. Hiking trails, pond and fort lewis nearby," shares Michelle R. This military recreation area provides a quiet setting with basic amenities.

Playground access: Fort McAllister cabins provide proximity to play areas. "Really nice campground. Great hikes. Very close to a Publix and two convenience stores. My kids loved the playground and the fort tour!!" mentions Tyler W. The combination of educational and recreational activities makes this location particularly suitable for families.

Nature education: Several cabin rental locations near Rincon offer nature centers with educational programs. "This place is Great! I went there with my family about a month ago, they have hiking trails, bike trails, a nature center and plenty of room for kids to ride bikes," shares Marysa H. about Skidaway Island. These facilities provide learning opportunities during inclement weather.

Tips from RVers

Site selection: When booking cabin accommodations at Savannah South KOA, consider location within the property. "There is a nice fenced area in the shade for dogs. They have many cabins, some of which are on the side of the pond. The pond has a family of swans, and its nice to sit on the bench in the evening and watch them," suggests Tracy D. Waterfront sites offer enhanced views but may experience more foot traffic.

Utility reliability: Electrical connections vary across facilities in the Rincon area. "The way the cables run, they have them on top of the ground from site to site. Crazy," notes Tracy D. about Savannah South KOA. This arrangement can create tripping hazards and potential service interruptions during severe weather.

Noise considerations: Highway proximity affects some rental cabins near Rincon. "Easy in and out to main arteries. Convenient to attractions and supplies. If you're tenting road noise could be problematic," advises Sally S. Cabin rentals generally provide better sound insulation than tent camping but proximity to transportation corridors remains a consideration when selecting accommodations.
